The other day, a friend of mine was telling me that Costco had added an item to their inventory. It was a package of 40 beef tamales. "Mmmmm," I thought, "yummy! Costco is usually pretty reasonable!" Then she told me that the price for said package was $90. I didn't stop to think about my response, I swear it to you all; it came right off the top of my head: "Are they crazy? What are they, magical, wish-granting tamales?" Five seconds after I said it, I realized I sounded like Jayne. Yes, I have definitely watched Firefly too often!

I recognize and understand the individual words, but they make no sense when presented in this order . . .

I just don't understand what you're getting at here.

when.......
you beg your I.T. guy at work to program your computer to start up with the Firefly theme song.
( he did, it's great!)

you cannot function in life without downloading every BDH picture that gets posted somewhere.

you look through your DVD collection searching for something to watch that you haven't see a zillion times, yet you end up selecting Firefly to watch 'cause it's always kinda fresh and always great.

you use Firefly quotes all the time...like shiny, gorram it, and my favorite...that's a long wait for a train don't come.

you see BDH's in other works & it just doesn't look & feel exactly right...like how come they're that way?

you know all the tiny little mistakes in Firefly & Serenity, but you don't care, and really don't even want to discuss them on these boards.

you try to explain the Firelfy "experience" to your "stick up his butt" boss and get questioning looks from him, and you walk away and don't care.

you sometimes get confused or forget what you're looking at, BDM Serenity or the tv episodes.

'Too much Firefly', doesn't that seem kind of a...contradiction?

Well, maybe when you see a sign on your way to work that says 'Deaver Associates' and you freak out....and five miles later you see a sign that says 'Serenity Farm' and the first thing you think is, We're gonna try a barn swallow!....

But I personally don't think 'too much of a good thing' is applicable here.

Yep. That made me smile. But no, it's not a sign you've watched too much Firefly.

Such a thing simply isn't possible.

One morning I had to go into work for a network cut over. I was on a conference call with people from General Motors, Electronic Data Systems, Affiliated Computer Services, and OAO Technology Solutions. One of them told me that everything was looking good and we were almost done, and I said "shiny" One of the people on the call said "Did you just say shiny?"

I actually thought this thread was one of them “ fill in the blank” threads, so I will.

“You know you’ve watched too much Firefly when…..?” You can answer every question or respond to any statement with an utterment (is that a word?) from the BDM or BDS. I can do this and I’m sure that most of the browncoats here can also.

I'm sure "shiny" will be next.

Hmmmmm...

Wondering if I should let everybody know how nuts I am?

Oh, what the hell, life is short!

The other day I asked my other half to return a dvd for me by leaving him a note to find when he woke up. It read...

Take this back
To the store
Tell them I can't watch it no more
Burn the case
And boil the DVD
Or you could just take it back for me

Anyway, he got a (little) kick out of it!

LOL - so did I - I sing to the kids I nanny, stuff like

"We're about to go to school,
Captain Mal would think you're cool,
He'd say, "turn off that TV",
...coats on?, ...did you do a wee?"

It sure beats "have you all got your coats on?? did you go to the toilet?? For the last time would you turn off the television??!!!"

Traveler - shiny was the first word in my vocabulary - I am a Kaylee-clone through and through!!

'Cashy Money' is one I use a lot, and 'gorramnit' does pop up occassionally... 'myownself' (Nandi), 'permaybehaps' just flows off the tongue now! "smelling a lot of if comin' off of this plan..." popped out the other day too!!

And I agree on one other thing... too much Firefly??? Huh?? I know I am not that bright at times but... Huh?

When you change your desktop to a very specific scene of Mal and Inara at the end of "Trash" ...and you sometimes let others use your computer and don't care if it offends them and try not to think about how it may offend Nathan.

Eventually, I did change it to Cordelia sticking out her tongue to Angel, but it took me awhile.

your dad forces you to go on an impromptu driving lesson (I hate learning to drive by the way!) and your car breaks down at the corner of no and where, and for some ridiculous reason neither of you have your mobiles. Anyway to cut a long story short we eventually had some help on the way after 3 hours sitting doing nothing, when a "helpful" chap stopped and asked what was wrong. The fuel pumps bust was my dads reply and the guy said thats a nothing part at least it will only cost a tenner to fix and he then started wondering back to his car. My overly sarcastic reply was "it seems to me its only a nothing part till you dont have one and then its everything" For ages i couldnt work out where i'd got that from then i remembered and laughed all the way home (My dad thinks im nuts!)

My dad took out the old part and i think I may keep it. It'll make a shiny paperweight and hey maybe itll remind me to take my gorram phone with me next time!

Last year, after we moved back into our newly remodeled office, the workmen were still getting the bugs out. I had long since loaded Mike Phillips works into my Webshots as screensavers and rotating wallpapers. (if you haven't seen them, by all means; he is our most prolific and impressive FFF/Browncoat artist. only a bluesun room visit away.) There were just over 100 of them. Which one do you suppose froze on my screen while I was away from my desk while the workmen did whatever workman do after office remodels? Mal/Nathan's tight butt shot from the end of Trash (mentioned above) I didn't care what the workman thought of me. There seemed, from all reports, to be some humor about it.

And I'm a guy what's not sly.

You've watched too much Firefly when spelling F*x any other way seems wrong somehow...

our system is set up to automatically refund your money the same way you paid, and as we make the normal small talk during the transaction if i am going to be giving them cash back, without fail, without me trying, i say, " and it looks like you'll be getting back cashy money" most folks don't even notice, but i get a few "HUH?"

and unrelated, i know i've watched too much farscape, cuz "Frell" has snuck into my everyday vocab. ( What the frell just happend?? etc.)

its been a whiel since i last read this thread and am reminded of when i was at the bank. they have a computer that i can check my account online. i usually just deposit my paycheck then ill go to the computer and do a few things with my accounts. it was real slow that day so i told the lady about it and she said something about it being connected to the internet and i very nearly said 'you still have access to all the ten-shu-du that can filter in off the cortex.' shoulda said it but i said something normal. still, thinking that way would certainly signify you need to lay off the tv shows.

Nickelback seriously has a song that goes like this:

And in the end
When firefly's
The only light in paradise
We'll show the world
That they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along...

I was in a dress rehearsal, and one of the girls in the scene forgot to do her next piece of blocking ((Movement on stage for the uninitiated)) so out of my mouth comes "What aren't you doing?". Immediately afterwards, no joke, three other guys on stage and the light guy on the house mic ((Who has the voice of God when he's on the PA, I swear)) all shout "SUMMER!".

That certainly threw me for a spell.

In my own defense I have to tell you something about the missus and then my own firefly quirk. Iremist likes to eat the icing off of cake in the middle of the night when no one is looking and leave the remains for others to find in the morning. (I don't begrudge her, I usually have twice as big a piece as she could ever eat.) When I wake up in the morning to have a slice for breakfast, there are the horrid remains left for all to see. As I stand above her to say goodbye while she lies asleep all I can think of is "I done goned oft and married me a gorram cake REAVER!
Now my little "I watch too much firefly" spiel. When I was installing alarms in restaurants I had to be careful not to cuss in Chinese or the owners of said ethnic establishment would think I spook fluent Mandarin. One time I did and the cashier busted a gut laughin then went and told the cook what I said. They asked where I learned it and I told the truth.

I dyed my browncoat black for those whom have gone before.

Reposted from an old blog of mine, because it fits the thread so well:

---------------

So, last night I had a hockey game. At one point I carried the puck in close and took a shot (it'd be cooler if I scored, but it just went off the side of the net.) Then a defense(wo)men on the other team pushed me from behind and I crashed into the goalie and knocked the net off its moorings.

The ref whistled the play dead to fix the net, and the center on the other team (who's a good friend) immediate came up and asked the goalie: "Are you okay?"

So I turned around and said, "Is she okay?"

No one got it.

*sigh*

---------------

I've since kept a tighter rein on my FF-isms. Which, really, is a shame...

One time I was visiting the folks and my mom advised that she was going to do some wash.

The first thing I thought/said was, Watch out for Zoe!

And nowadays, whenever I mention my occupation in any kind of Browncoat forum - whether it's online or in person - I'm bracing myself for someone to make some remark to the effect of, So you have a Train Job, huh?

You know you’ve watched too much Firefly when...

you start cussing in Chinese. Or better still, write out Chinese swearing phrases to say after you've just had a really annoying conversation with someone.

you try and convert every new person you meet. I've a 3 out of 4 success ratio, which ain't bad.

you think about the next installment of your fanfic 24/7, and then the one after that,...and the one after that.

Shiny is definately part of my vocabulary, as is ri shao goo shi bing.

You know you've watched too much Firefly when...

You ask your ex-wife to post an appeal on her knitting blog to get people to join the Universal HD Firefly forums and aid the cause of a Serenity sequel (and she does!):

Here’s one,
The other day the wife and I were driving around the neighborhood when I noticed a yard with a flagpole in it. At the top of the pole there was a flag. It was a big NASCAR flag. I looked at her and said,” Isn’t that silly. They have a flagpole in their yard with a big NASCAR flag on it. Don’t they know that flag should say FIREFLY!!”

Yes I definitely watch a lotta FF/BDM…lol

You know you've watched too much Firefly when...

Your friends have started cussing in Chinese, and they haven't even seen Firefly/Serenity.
