Well everyone, here's some preliminary results:

MEN
Tie for first place, with 11 votes each is Mal and Jayne! Jayne took a strong lead in the beginning, but like in "Ariel", Mal came up and smacked him upside the head! Simon comes in with 7 votes, followed with Wash's 4.

LADIES
Zoe comes out the frontrunner with 5 votes, followed with Kaylee's 3. Saffron, unbelievingly, has 2 votes, and Inara has 1.

That's it for now. Let's hope for more votes, I don't want to end this with a tie!

Saffron wound up with two and that surprises you? Seems like she has two of everything els...aww nevermind.

Interestingly enough I was listening to Our Mrs. Reynolds while I was working, had it on in Spanish...long story...And out of the entire cast it actually sounds like Saffron herself (well the actress herself) was doing the Spanish. Sounded exactly like her. The others, not so much. But even if the others sounded nothing like the actual actors it was kinda hillerious.

I have never tried one of the side lacing ones. Might have to try one, just for snicks and grins. Of course, I don't really need more boob-poppage. But, the easier to breathe part sure sounds like a plus. Breathing is always good!

Guys: Simon. No hesitation. It's the patent, slightly self-absorbed intelligence and the wry, self-deprecating sense of humour that totally does it for me (see his final scene with Mal in the pilot). The shirtless moment in 'Objects in Space' just capped perfection.

Grrrls: hmm, depends. Kaylee I completely adore - I think it's that disarming ability to find the sunny joy in everything, and the cheeky smile. But on balance I think Inara *just* wins out in the hottie stakes - the woman is elegant sensuality embodied. Plus sophisticated, aloof, and extremely quick-attracted - a very attractive qualities, IMHO.

You have to understand, I'm a 42F bra size, her boobs are probably only a third my size, so flat chested to me.

HA! I was going to say the same thing. (Not sure of my current conventional size, but I believe I have a 42F in my collection.) She only looks big because she is on a show comprised completely of the "built for speed" models.

Actually, I was wondering if her boobs were filled with some lethal gel or some other substance that could be used as a weapon or some sort of propellant or maybe an oxygen source in a fix. I mean,she is pretty handy in her twisted way.

I love the show, but admit that none of these are my type. I wanted to vote for Book, because he hasn't any votes yet, but he let that hair out and, like River, now that I know it's there I can't get it out of my mind. So...I'm torn. Simon is closest, because he is a BIG DAMN NERD, but the wet-behind-the-ears smell of milk would turn me off -- he's just a little boy (and his mouth is always hangin' open). Jayne is - umm..Jayne. But I do like the hat. Wash would drive me nuts -- those stupid dinosaurs! So, gotta give it up to our fearless leader. Count my vote for Mal.

This one is easier -- Zoe, because she is fo-ine! She's got the lips of life! And, she is tough -- but will still try the wife soup thing.

Inara has cooler clothes, though.

Thoughts on Book

Yes, he's a preacher. And the hair thing is, well, more than I could deal with. But there's about him, that's attractive, but not like that. I guess I would say I'm drawn to Book, as a person, as a character, but I'm to Simon, or Mal, sometimes. Plus, he's the only male character we haven't seen in romantic (for lack of a better word) situation.

Does that make any sense?

its Jayne, if we are talking about a hot one-night-stand and its definitely Mal if its about Love and Trust. So what was this thread about?

Ladywise there is only one: Inara! I really like Kaylee and River, but I don't see them as sex symbols, they are just too sisterly for me, I guess. But Inara is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen - so much grace... I usually tend towards males, but for Inara I am sure I would make an exception

This post has been up for how long? And I still haven't voted!?! Does that seem right to you?

Actually, I am having a very, VERY difficult time picking favorites. To tell the truth, I have looked at this post everyday, read everyone else's responses, thought, considered, pondered ... and then given up and said nothing. Why is this so hard?

Anyway, enough of my personal drama. I'm gonna make a gorram decision if it kills me.

Well, for the women I would pick Inara. Beauty, brains, accomplishment. She's really got it all. I also always come out as Inara on the personality tests, so I guess that makes sense.

As for the men, that is much harder. I am not attracted to Book - never did go for older men. Adam is an attractive man, but Jayne is not a man I would ever be attracted to. I don't go for big burly men simply because they are big and burly.

Wash is definitely in the running because I love a man with a quirky, self-deprecating sense of humor. And he's cute, too. Mal is extremely attractive (and loyal, and protective, and commited to his moral code, and funny, and smart, and good in an emergency, and ...), but he is a troubled man. As I have gotten a little older, I have learned to avoid these more 'complicated' men (see, I think I've grown).

So, I guess that brings me to Simon. I have always been attracted to the 'intellectual type'. A man's brain can be SO sexy! Also, I am a critical care nurse, so I was really struck by the scene where he tells Jayne that he will always be safe on his table. It was the right thing to do/say, and Simon obviously takes his responsibility as a doctor very seriously. I know how hard it sometimes is to separate one's personal feeling from one's professional responsibilities (I have literally taken care of critically ill murderers), and he really gained my respect there. Physically, I think Simon is perfect. Some may consider him a bit on the thin side, but I like a man who is well-defined without all the bulk (Thank you, Joss, for the totally unnecessary beefcake in OiS!). As for his way with women, I have to admit that his ' only woman in the 'verse' comment to Kaylee was just beyond stupid. Aside from that, though, I find a little akwardness endearing. I mean, you KNOW a guy really likes you if he gets nervous talking to you. Last but not least, I think Simon has - even in the very short run of this amazing show - started to realize what a privileged and sheltered life he has led. Every time I see OiS, I am stuck by how different this Simon is to the Simon we see in the first few episodes. He is brave in the face of danger, more self-assured, and not easily intimidated by Jubal Early. Yeah, he's gonna make many more mistakes in the future (!!), but he is learning and growing right before our eyes. And I find a man who can learn from his mistakes very attractive indeed!

Anyway, I finally did it - I made a decision!

Congrats on finally making a decision -- I went through a lot of the same thinking you did and got to the same conclusion.

One thing I don't think has been mentioned about Mal (and what finally made me cast my vote for Simon) is that I wouldn't like to have to try to come between him and his ship. I think you'd be permenantly set up as a second choice, which is one of the things that I love about Mal, but it would be hard to deal in real life.

Of course, Simon's got that whole devoted-his-life-to-his-sister thing going on, but surely she'll get better soon, right?

sorry Zoriah, but i have to go the opposite way and put in my vote for the Doc. Jayne is handsome and built and from what i've read, Adam Baldwin's a great guy, but i don't like bullies. i know he's grown a bit, but Jayne's still a bully and i can't get past that to liking him.

I love that Simon is so sweet and so caring. i will leave my ramblings about how he feels about Kaylee for the other thread. Simon is cute and cut and i love that!

Wash is a close second, but, as much as i love goofy guys, i need someone a bit more... hmm.. i was going to say tortured, but i need to ammend that... angsty, i guess? Not Mal angsty -- that's a bit too much. i'm babbling now. i need to stop.

I can't decide on the women right now. Inara is beauty and elegance. Kaylee is chipper and sweet. Zoe is strong and self-possesed. River is.. well... River. She is strength and weakness. Summer Glau is a phenomenal actress.

I'm withholding my vote for my fff (favorite firefly female) for now. i'll let you know if i can make up my mind.

I think that Jayne is the best over all charactor, he has perfect comic timing, great facial expressions. Adam is the perfect candidate for palying Jayne. I can't think of anyone who could play it better.

Mal, annoys me at times, there are times I just want to hit him (then again I feel that way about most men), but every now and then he has this fantastic scene like the one between him and Jayne in Arial.

Book, is an enigma, so naturally I am drawn to his charactor.

Wash, is just light entertainment.

As for the women.....

Inara annoys me

Kaylees great, reminds me of me, except I don't hanker for girlie stuff.

River is nuts therefore is fantastic

Zoe, my role model. She's independant, sexy, if I could be anyone I would want to be her.

Seriously, though, if you haven't watched Buffy and Angel you should at least give them a try. Take them in order -- you can find all sorts of advice on these boards about how to tackle the overlapping seasons -- and enjoy.

I vote for Jayne/Adam - because while Jayne is a wonderful character, and frequently surprises me - playing with the whores hair in Heart of Gold, using big words you wouldn't think he knows, and going after the Captain in War Stories - the actor himself is a wonderful guy.

I have really enjoyed posting back and forth with Adam in the poli threads - and always learn something from him, even when we disagree (which isn't often)

So I vote Jayne/Adam for the men.

As for the women - it'd have to be Zoe/Gina. Zoe because she's a worthy role model - tough, kick-rear, but still caring and hot enough to melt your eyes out of your head. (Yeah, I'm a happily married woman - but Zoe's so hot, if she invited me to her bed, I'd switch teams!)

And Gina was wonderful as Jasmine in Angel, as well. Soft, feminine, and still scary.

I'd vote for Jayne Cobb! I think he's the best character on the show and he needs to be noticed! Adam did a wonderful job playing the Hero of Canton! Plus, He's hot!
