Crazy week is 1 hour and 45 mnutes from being over for me!

I am taking a half day today and me and the little bro are going snowboarding for the weekend. Should be good fun. I haven't snowboarded since I was 15 so I am prolly gonna die but hey it will be one hell of a rush!

I literally just banged my head on the desk repeatedly... I honestly do not think they could get any lazier. I gave a kid a test and the short story the test questions came from with a numbered arrow pointing to each answer in the story.... and in 40 minutes he wrote his name and the word I...WTF??? OK seriously they are going to make me insane!!!!!

Here's the really sad part... the short story they were being tested on... I read it out loud twice to them yesterday. The second reading, I stopped every 1/2 page and had them review and tell me all the events that had occurred. Then when we finished the second reading, I had them do a step by step timeline of the events... yet today, not one of them could answer the sequence of events questions... why?? Because they don't want to learn and don't care so when I made them read and listen yesterday they were literally looking for ways to distract themselves from listening by writing notes, talking, drawing, trying to use cell phones, playing with tech decks, etc... which is why we did the second reading to begin with.. I asked them why they couldn't remember and most of them admitted they intentionally tried not to pay attention because " school is gay and no one cares about this stuff"
Ok rant over... sorry it's just occasionally so profoundly frustrating.

MSB? I really really feel you pain. I very nearly killed one today (I'm still not well) after I'd stayed up till 2am again marking then skipped both breaks and lunch sitting with students trying to help them pass I had one student refuse to write a one line correction because 'she was tired and being made to work too hard'. Why do I care more about them doing well than they do? How is that fair?! Breathe. They're not worth the prison sentance!

Jimi, I loves you and all but I have to check, that isn't the SAME beer bottle HK mentioned that you're currently drinking from is it? There are limits to the depravity that even I would accept with equanimity! (I know, it surprises me too!)

Thanks Jimi... just been a day. Mostly though teaching is good.. I just got an unusual crop of kids who have some serious home issues and are really working towards a thriving career as a drug dealer, a hooker, a teen mother on welfare, or gang banger... and much as I have tried to show them alternatives and provide them with skills... they really just don't want them...sigh. Well I will keep trying and I am leaving some great lesson plans and maybe the new teacher will do better...

Ok enough whining... time to do something cheering like plot the downfall of my administration...

New nurse is gone.
Much drama last night as the stupid agency called her AT THE CLINIC instead of at home to tell her not to report in the next day.

I am apparently the villain per two other nurses (one of which is trouble incarnate). "It's Her fault for telling that she was pregnant!"
No, it's the nurse's fault for expressing sentiments not conducive to working with our client and employee populations, lying, not being prompt, and making snide comments about new coworkers all in under 5 days on the new job. At least 2 other people complained to the manager about her attitude and behavior.
I personally also know that we really can't afford to start training someone only to have them get yanked by their doctor because they're in a high risk pregnancy, then have to start all over again.
We're running at what effectively amounts to half staff right now for crying out loud!!

I may be a vicious bitch who gets you fired, but I *do* share my gum...

I will now consume a small vat of Sailor Jerry's Tattoo rum (THANK YOU NVG FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THAT WONDERFUL ELIXIR!!) to deaden the pain as I saw off my horns, brazilian wax my tail off, and file my fangs down.

My only reply to Thing1 and Thing2 is basically "bite me".

She wasn't a bad person, per se. She was however immature, unsuited to the tasks and patients (we've all got our strong points which is why there's more than one specialty.. I would not do well with old people or crazy folk. Or sputum.), and showing a will to do as she pleased without regard to actually getting trained correctly. Plus she "never shuts up" and showed basically dishonest traits.

Usually you have the common sense to put your best foot forward for a while at a new job, then let them see the warts AFTER you've passed the probationary period.

We're getting somebody in 2 weeks. She was our manager's first choice, but she needed to give 2 weeks notice and the boss didn't want to wait apparently so she hired the other one.
See? Go with your first instinct. The first choice was being responsible and courteous. This is a good sign.
Mind you... she still may turn out to be a stinker once she's working with us, but at least she'll let us know before she bails and she's got lots of experience in the field!

Inconsiderate and dishonest I'll grant you, but she was never actively mean to the patients SFAIK. She really didn't get enough time around them to have the opportunity to really put her foot in it. It's what she was saying to her coworkers that made me nervous. We saw the last of a rather unpleasant woman this Fall, and I have no desire to work with another one just like her as it is very difficult to get rid of someone once they're hired unless they bring actual harm to a patient. You basically have to wait around until they get tired and move on or seriously shoot themselves in the foot.
It's easier to not let the situation arise in the first place.
This is why there's a probationary period with any new hire anywhere, hopefully. If it's not a good fit, it's not a good fit.
I myself quit my first nursing job out of school because I finally realized it just wasn't going to work no matter how hard I wanted it to. Luckily it never got to the point of "fiasco" but it could have. I was not cut out for that floor at that time. I have no desire to be now.

...is this turning into a multi page rant?...
Someone get me drunk enough to pass out quietly in the corner, quick!!

I had a totally traumatic event at the weekend - an 'interview' that turned out to be a four hour test session involving a stats paper. I was probably the oldest person there,too - most of them, their degrees squeaked when they turned round too fast.

Morning RIMG, Gee!

I have survived my attempt at snowboarding. I say attempt because I am not sure I ever truly snowboarded down the mountain as much as fell down the mountain.

I have pressure burns on my elbows, a bruise running down my shoulder and am sore from head to toe.

On the plus side me and my little bro should never be allowed to go to the bar together again! Had way too good a time. We were apparently the "life of the bar" even had most of the wait staff (and the bouncer) hanging out with us by the end of the night.

Wish I could snow board. Alas, my lack of coordination and the inability to rent a size 16 (or 17 if they fit tight) boots and bindings gets in the way. Then again it doesn't take a tall mountain to get me falling down either.

Lie on your back. Pull your knee to your chest gently. Straighten your leg into the air. Keep it straight and let it fall towards your head. Swing it slowly out away from your body, then continue in a circle until you come to the beginning of that motion. Gently lower your leg, still straight. (Jazz dance class).

Sit with your knees bent and the soles of your feet touching. Gently press on your knees with your elbows while holding your feet with your hands.
Sit with your feet straight out in front of you. Slowly bend over and reach for your toes.

Find a friend to just whip your legs around your ears until something goes "pop" and you either feel better or cannot possibly flex your hip ever again.

ok, so I'm not moving great but no where near as bad as I thought it would be. Two of those stretches I use Rosie but the Jazz one (Nice!) is newie to me so will try that when no one is looking.

I'd echo the others about going to the doc FLT but the others beat me to it and I'm kinda on the stubborn scale, got better with my gut as had too but when my toe started to play up it took until my foot swollen and full of pus, one of those great at what point do I have to show this to someone love and she drags me down to A&E and some ham fisted doc (who kept asking the nurse going of shift what to do) sliced it open without waiting for the local to kick in.

Wow, I'm quite awake this morning.

Me? Take it easy?

I don't really do halves, tend to fully commit to everything I do with a tendency to be a touch obsessive too (how my parents coped with 3 hour of drum practice a night for two years is beyond me, think that's why they always used to drive me to gigs/practice, anything was better that me playing at home)

Still, give it a couple of weeks in a row, some regular stretching and a few runs for fitness and I am sure I will be fine.

Man, I really missed my favorite dive

I went out of town for spring break, 'was immensely relaxing and a ton of fun. We had the most insane snowstorm EVER!!! 100 km/h winds and up to 51 cm of snow in some areas. Looking out the window you could see the power lines snap and the street signs flying all over the place it was NUTS!!! People were abandoning their cars, busses and eighteen-wheelers (yes) on the highway, snow removal crews were overwhelmed and forced to pull back, building facades were torn off by the winds... TOtaL MaYhEM!!1@0010111

It's awesome!! The addition of the final smash makes it better than all the others, I always used to think that the games would have been better if they had included finishing moves.

Playing with the Wii remote does kinda suck, but I'm getting used to it....Well, I don't fall as much anymore...
