I just got invited to a fancy dress party.
BUT, its tomorrow ... and I have no costume.
Any one got any easy, cheap ideas?
Maybe something I might have lying around?

The last fancy dress i went to, i went as one of my friends who is ALWAYS in shorts & a hairband. (He's a he.) It was easy, cheap and best of all comfy!

That is easy, but none of my friends have really distinct dress styles. Except me, but I can't really go as myself!!
I did find a Kaylee-esque umbrella, but, alas, no green jumpsuit.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll find something
...
eventually.

Any police officer or firefighter friends who would loan you a uniform for the evening?
Baker friends?
Construction worker friends?

I like your idea, and I see your point, but I have no one like that to lend me an outfit.
All the people I know seem to be business men.
How annoying ....
Thankies for the idea though!!

Friend of mine went as a "figment of your imagination" once. No costume needed. Of course it was to a frat halloween party and it was lost on them....
He had to go to 7 11 and get a cheap plastic sword to claim he was a pirate before they would let him in.
Still think the costume concept was teh awesome!

Are there any thrift stores or vintage clothing stores nearby? You can always find something interesting there.

I had thought about that, but there's a time element.
i.e. Its 10 PM now, I got told about the party at about 7
Tomorrow I'm up at 7 AM to get the bus to college. Full day there, get back maybe by half 5 (if I'm lucky) by which time my town is basically closed.
Not Fair.

Okay, I should have thought of this sooner (from the movie Philadelphia): a law suit. Get a suit. Print out laws and pin them on.

Oh yeah easy and cheap yet perfect... Little Red Riding hood. Put on your sexiest dress, grab a basket ( which can hold all the items your purse would normally) and throw a red cape ( or 2 yards of red fabric pinned at the next with a safety pin or the like) on:) You look hot and no effort required:)
Or you can do the dress in all black and if anyone asks what you are say " what do I look like to you" or " How does this make you feel" and if pressed tell them you are a Rorschach ( ink blot psychology test ) test.

I like that ink blot one. Thats definitely going on the list of possibilities.
So far: ninja, ink blot test, figment of imagination, law suit, or an incredible (as in the Disney Film)
I think it'll be ok.

A friend of mine went one year as 'a wife fixing breakfast', she had curlers in her hair, pj's and a robe and a frying pan with an fried egg in it and a newspaper under her arm. I liked it and it easy to do....

Simple? Pick up a XX large black sweatshirt and white felt. Be a penguin. Wear the sweatshirt like a shirt dress (you can wear black shorts or pants underneath for modesty sake) cut a slit from the sleeve cuff to under the shoulder, should be along the seam. Leave the cuff intact. When you wear the sweatshirt it will look like flappy penguin wings. Then you can jst pin a white felt oval to your chest.
Ta-da!
Put on a wool cap for good measure.

Along those lines you can buy a matched pair of sweatshirt and sweat pants in a bright color, get white felt, cut out a large M shape and pin it on...voila you're an M&M

I just want to thank EVERYONE for all the truly amazing ideas. There's a reason we're browncoats (rather than just plain old fans of Firefly) and thats because we CARE.
That being said, I haven't gone with anybody's idea. Just my own.
An Incredible (i.e. Disney Movie)
We had an old T-Shirt with the logo lying around, some short black shorts, red tights and little black boots - you've got a costume!!
Thankies again.

*HUGS BACK!*
Tonight was AMAZING! Everyone looked really fab, plus I got a bit to drink.
Not a lot, mind you, but enough to be slightly tipsy yet still sober. BTW, I know I'm 16, but in England thats not bad. Legal drinking age is 18 (only a year and a half off now!) and most people from 14 onwards drink regularly.
Anyhu, as promised: Pic: (Please bare in mind its from AFTER the party ... )
&& *HUG!* to all.

It was fun. Lots of fun. && I got to see some people who went to my high school, but have gone to a different 6th form. Plus, some of them were VERY drunk - and thats always entertaining! lol
