One might say Orcs and Elves, from Tolkien's world, but Orcs were never anything more than from a line of twisted, deformed and mutilated Elves from the beginning. Orcs were bread as a mockery to the Elves, because their master could never really create anything on his own.

Greeks vs Trojans (Mythology)
Autobots vs Decepticons (Transformers)
Obi Wan Kenobi vs Darth Vader (Rebels vs the Empire)
Superman vs Lex Luthor
Batman vs The Joker

Do those count?

Cool. What is “The Phalanx?” Other then a close rank pikearm formation.

PRIESTESS: Hardly outside muscle. The Phalanx are the best we have--the elite of our warrior breeding line, the tip of the spear. They come by direct order of the Conclave, so discussion is pointless.

WHITE: I bow to the wisdom.

Oh. A DA.S2 reference. I should have known.

Also Max’s name is not Maximum, it’s just Max. I’ve seen this a couple of times. I’m not sure where it comes from.

PHIL: Max...is that short for Maximum?

MAX: Maximum?

PHIL: As in maximum force? Ooh! Maximum girl? Woman. I meant maximum woman.

Technically, I would think it's short for "Maxine."

"Max" being a guy's name 'n'all (and even then it's usually "Maxwell" (as in Smart) or "Maximilian" (as in Sterling).

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the thought of the rivalry came from the litany of 50's movies where one ghoulish baddie was pitted against another ("Frankenstein vs. The Mummy" and such).

The true battle between the "species" was for the first time introduced in "Underworld" (unless there was something before that I just missed).

In some fictional works, Lycans (or werewolves) were actually a type of vampire. Bryan Lumley's "Necroscope" series was my favorite canon on vampires and lycans, even if it didn't follow closely to the mythos.

Anyways, I'm sure a quick Google search would bring back all sorts of answers with better examples, this is just my two cents on your question. :)
