A recent post postulated that this forum is dying off, or similar talk.

Please post when you joined, if you can recall, and if you post your member number, that's handy, but we can check that anyhow. I plan to list them in sequential order here. Some of you may see where this is going, but I won't spell it out to spoil or taint the replies.

Here is one summary, with some apporximations:
2002 - 2.1K members
2003 - 3.3K new members
2004 - 4K new members
2005 - 7.5K new members
that's 3K before Sept, and 4.5 after Sept.
2006 - 8.6K new members
2007 - 5.5K new members
2008 - 5K new members

Some knid of burp happened around Sept 2005, not sure what that's about... :P
It should be mentioned that in 02, 03 there were a number of different boards and forums for browncoats to congregate at.
Still, for 6 years after cancellation of a tv show, and 3 years after release of a film, quite a bit of "legs" to sprout new members - kinda spry for a "dead" show.

One might also notice, with these posters being CURRENT visitors, that most boarded FFF in 04, 05, and 06. Short attention span, not so much.

Good morning to everybody.

It’s good to see that so many of the folks that were here when I first started are here still. BROWNCOAT1, PENGUIN, ECGORDON,JEWELSTAITEFAN,FARFLY and NEWOLDBROWNCOAT. It’s also good to have the new browncoats coming in too like FIREFLY151.

FFF.net has taken some hits about not being the forum it used to be. That may be true a small, tiny bit but it still is a fantastic forum. One of the best I’ve ever had the privilege of being a browncoated member of.

My # 18988, March 8-2006, right after seeing Serenity in Dec. of 05 and FF in Jan and Feb of 06.

The Browncoats are a whole different breed of people, a good breed. They know what they like and they stick to it. They are a group of fans that Joss has always been able to count on and I’m proud to be in that group.

I don’t post as often as I used to but I do try to visit the forum every day. One day I will come and get the news I’ve been waiting to hear for a long time, SOMEBODY GOT SMART. There’s a BDS coming and a new Firefly series starting in the fall…………there’s plenty of bullet holes in this ‘ol jacket I wear, but to all Browncoats old and new….lets keep holding that ruttin line.

It is strange, the Browncoats grow stronger every year, you tell this by going to conventions or just meeting more people who love it. Just started Uni, almost everybody in the class has seen Firefly & Serenity & 1 of the tutors is a die hard Browncoat (even dressed up) whereas before I went to College studying the same subject (Game Design) & only a handful had seen Serenity let alone Firefly. But despite all this growing I see Firefly/Serenity forums shrinking, always puzzles me.

For anyone still confused about their member number, all you have to do is hover your cursor over your member name in any post on this or any other thread, and down at the bottom of your screen, just above the task bar, you will see your number. If you click on your name it takes you to your profile page where it has the day you first joined this forum.

And while you're on that profile page why not give your fellow Browncoats some information about yourself. Just click the "edit profile" link. Whatever you're comfortable with sharing of course, but there are times when people make certain comments that I wish I knew where they are from or what gender they are. You can also access your profile from the homepage by clicking the "My Firefly" link on the menu bar.

Not sure of my number, but I joined this site on Saturday, December 24, 2005. But I've been a browncoat since day 1.

Forums usually tend to slowly fade away when they are based on 1 particular subject. Everything gets talked about, more than once, and there hasn't been too much news on anything new happening. Few might lose hope, most just run out of stuff to say.

For those people who don't have their #, it's in the URL. A fact I know because it's a little annoying because when you want to view a member profile, like to send a personal message, you can't just type in their username, it has to be their user number.

Edit:

Note: try not to use the 10/9/05 notation because some of the forum members are from europe, and some are from the US, so this will just get very confusing.

If you don't have anything else to go on in posting the final list, sort of user number, and then you can correct the inversions.

Have not posted in so long had to ask for my password....sheesh

Do check in a coupla' times a week though, and still very much

a Browncoat. Still believe passionately that our beloved Firefly

will be back in some form like a mini-series much like Battlestar

Galactica began. Kudos to the cast and crew for a rip-roaring

ride. Pacing the floor till friday.

Anyways....

As more time has passed since Serenity premiered, I believe

that some folks will eventually pony up the money to bring

back Joss's multi-layered Verse. It is so filled with imaginative

possibilities. So many untold stories ready to burst out with

these intriguing characters.

Can you imagine the story starting again right before the

Alliance war begins. Imagine Mal meeting in a rustic back water

town near his mother's ranch. Two moons circling overhead

seen from a skylight in a saloon's back room. A large oval table

surrounded by harden angry men and women. Voices and faces

tempered with destiny and free spirit and lit by the shafts of twin

moon light. Meddling. High taxes. Unjust laws. Government

corruption. Outside The winds of destiny calling for action and

relief tremble the timbers of this hallowed ark. Many in the

room including Mal are members of the Alliance Mobile Infantry

Reserve on this outer planet are well trained but rebellious.

Idealism and faith, quick to joke and befriend Mal listens intently

and plans quietly. But forces of unkind change slip quietly to the

hills in the east. The east where an anxious mother awaits her

Mal.

As the story progress's we watch Zoe protect her siblings.

Wash graduates from flight school and flies medevac for a

Hospital in the inner core where Simon practices and River is

secretly trained. Inara's free spirit tinges the Companion house

with disbelief. Jayne learning the ways of the inner core poor of

survival. Mysterious Operative Book??? Kaylee watching with uncapped love and understanding the work of her father.

All intertwined like a 'lost" episode.

This is the way I imagine the story.

Hey Jewel,

My theory on the Sept Jump in '05 is that Serenity came out in Sept 05 and the big push to get folk to see the BDM touched some who may not have heard about Firefly.

If you go and look at some of the newbie posts AS (after Serenity) you'll probably find that to be more true than not. One of the main reasons I love to read newbie posts is that - the fact that someone (usually a BC) turned them on to the 'verse or they saw it at the video store, etc.

My other theory, regarding the dying off of this forum is this: People come and go so quickly here (from the Wizard of Oz but it fits this situation). People get discouraged, tired, disillusioned and/or downright fed-up with news, no-news, rumors, in-fighting (among BCs) and the like that they wander off to other worlds to see if they can fill the void left by not having our BDH around. That's human nature, I guess. Do we really need Firefly? Need may be a strong word, but I have to tell ya with the crap they have on TV now why can't WE have this - this one TRUE thing. It is now going on 7 years and we have as strong a desire as ever to see more of our heroes.
That is unprecedented, in any medium. I remain optimistic.

Good idea though, to get a consensus of Browncoats. It could come in handy someday.
