(Oreo crawls inside as the main air-lock hatch shuts)

Captain- Cuttin it kinda close don't ya think?

Oreo- I made it didn't I?

Captain- yeah, this time.

(Oreo stands up and notices michael)

Oreo- Who are you?

(Michael extends his hand and introduces himself)

Michael- My name is...

(Oreo walks past him, purposely bumping into him. Michael turns and watches Oreo walk away)

Micheal- So that is the half reaver/human. Quaint fellow.

(Shiny Smiles)

Shiny- Yep, and i saw him first.

(Shiny runs after Oreo, grabbing his hand and asking him questions, Michael stands and watches.)

Michael- A fair Juliet. and what of you Oreo? Romeo, or something else?

(The Captain notices Michael glaring at oreo)

Captain- Might find it within your best interest to stir clear of Oreo. he doesn't take kindly to new people.

micheal- i noticed. Personality trait?

Captain- No, just very protective of his family and the same of us to him. Specaily little Shiny there.

Michael- he's not normal is he?

Captain- well, you said it best. half human/ half reaver, been hard for him and us. we've had to stay 100 steps out in front of the Alliance, but even doing that made no garrantees.

(the captain starts begining sacrastic)

captain- thats not a problem for you is it?

Michael- N...no...

Captain- good, then you should love livin agmong us fugitives then. ( walking away) soon as we reach the black we'll have some chow, see if we can't get us a job.

(in shiny's bunk, Oreo is laying down and shiny next to him)

Shiny- cut it kinda close there big guy.

Oreo- Do you and the captain practice saying that kinda stuff to each other? he said the same thing to me.

Shiny- No.

(Suddenly shinys face saddened)

Shiny-Oreo, something is happening to me.

Oreo- what? what do you mean something?

Shiny(Slight hesitation)- I been, getting dizzy. almost blacking out. My body feels different.

Oreo- didn't the doctors give you a look over?

Shiny- Yes, i even managedto take this...

(Shiny pulls a folder from underneath her pillow and gives it to Oreo. Oreo open and begins reading it.)

Oreo-none of this makes sense.

shiny- I couldn't figure a gorram thing out either. Back in there, i tried asking bout it, but the rutting nurse kept brushing my question off. one of them mentioned something bout "Reavr..

Oreo- Reaverism. They think you have reaverism?

Shiny- I dont't know, they wouldn't say. Just kept on doing tests and the like.

Oreo- Test? what kinda test?

Shiny- I dont't know. i was doped up most of the time, but they took blood.

Oreo- does the captain know?

Shiny-No.

Oreo- and nobody said anything else?

Shiny- Only that reaver darts have reaver blood on them and that in some small cases, the darts make people turn into reavers.

Oreo- that could be why you feel the way you do. Maybe we...

Shiny(nervous)- I...also, wonder if maybe that time you and i were together on serenity...

(Oreo suddenly stands up)

Oreo- Do you think i made you feel like this?

Shiny- No, no, i'm just saying, wondering. trying to figure this out.

(Shiny gets off the bed and walks towards Oreo and tries to grab his hand, but he pulls away. From past experiance Shiny throws her hands up in front of her face, half expecting oreo to hurt her, but instead he turns and leaves. Shiny lowers her hands and stares into nothing)

Shiny(Whispers to herself)- I'm sorry...

(Outside the bunks, the captain runs into Oreo)

Captain- Hows it going?

(Oreo wanting to say how he really feels, instead just nods)

Captain- Got some stuff you need to look at, might help with your...condition.Also, gonna need you job worthy, hoping to pick up some work not to long after. Chows in 20.

(Oreo watches as the captain disappears onto the bridge, before disappearing into the cargo bay himself)

Shiny picks up the folder off the floor and sits
on her bunk.

She's getting a little tired of the situation and angry at herself for letting Oreo know about her concerns.
Shiny opens the folder and starts reading hoping to understand something.
She shuts the folder in frustration and sticks it back under her pillow.

Shiny walks over to mirror and brushes her hair staring at herself she moves as close as she can to the mirror staring into her own eyes. Looking, searching.

Shiny makes up her mind not to let this get to her. But in the back of her mind she's worried not that she's a reaver or tainted with reaver blood.
But something else, something she's not ready to deal with or face.
"Besides" she says out loud,"what are the chances?"

Shiny walks away from the mirror and out of her room.

She walks to the galley, hoping to see the captain or Michael.

Shiny walks into the galley hoping Oreo was there.
she sighs when she realizes he's not.

Shiny goes to the fridge and grabs a drink
and sits at the table alone. She pops the top and spins it on the table. She takes a sip and closes her eyes. She didn't seem to know just how tired she was until that moment.
Without opening her eyes shiny takes another sip.
then puts the bottle down onto the table.
Shiny continues to sit eyes closed enjoying her drink.

...Shiny continues to sit eyes closed enjoying her drink when Michael's voice sounds from the dark galley.

"Ye loik tired, lass. Woon might even say weary, like ye carryin the weight o' the whirld on yer shoulders.

"A boiden like that is no easy thing ta bear, believe me Oi know. But ye got big o' bruiser there, an the Cap'n. Maybe mor'n Oi doon know aboot. Folk ye can talk to, help yeh deal with whatever it is whot got yeh down."

Michael stands up from the dark corner he was apparently sitting in, and swipes the wrinkles from his pants, and shrugs at his suspenders. He leans on the counter so he's facing Shiny, who's just managed to locate the source of his voice.

"It's like this lass, Oi gots nobody. An Oi been some deep dark places with only my id and ego for cump'nee. Oi'd give a fair fortune ta 'ave whot yeh 'ave on this boo't. An Oi signed on fer this riotous adventure to put some space betwixt me and moi deeds. Yeh got folk about whot care for yeh. Doan forget that."

Michael turns and heads out toward the passenger cabins, but stops on the stairs:

"O Gowd, Oi could be bounded in a nutshell, and count meself a king of infinite space—were it not that Oi 'ave bad dreams."

Then turns and looks at Michael.

"Oi took ye silent inbibement as a girl whot wants to be alone. 'Sides, I'm more'n a bit wary of angerin' the 'alf Reaver down yon hallway. It seem't ye two had ah.... ah relationship."

Michael is still standing on the stairs, unsure what to do.

"Oi'm willin' ta listen, if'n ye'd like to talk. I came in here trying to avoid yer big bloke an the Cap'n. Too many questions and sour looks."

He steps down one step and waits for Shiny to reply.

Shiny, "sometimes silence can be deafening.

Shiny gets up and grabs two drinks from the fridge.
She opens them both and motions for Michael to join her.

Shiny,"Captains a good guy, He has a right to be suspicious, He means well though. besides if he didn't like ya he wouldn't let ya stay here on our ship."

Shiny picks up her drink but still continues to talk.

Shiny,"Now Oreo. well that's another story. He trusts no one. but he has a right to. What's been done to him no one should go through.but... He is unpredictable. Believe me I know."

Shiny puts her untouched drink down. "He is loyal to his crew mates.

shiny lets out a little laugh,"when he remembers us."

Shiny looks at Michael, She's curious about him
kinda intrigued. She doesn't wanna ask him questions, she knows it would him uncomfortable.

Shiny gets quite, hoping Michael will will start talking about something anything really.

(Oreo sits on a crate in the cargo bay, lost in a deep trance, when summer and storm waltz in laughing)

Summer- Hello

Storm- Hi, Oreo

(Oreo snaps back to reality and stares at the twins)

Oreo- What?

Storm- You were dreaming.

Oreo- i don't dream for you your information.

Summer- All living things dream.

(Oreo jumps down from the crate and turns away from the twins)

Oreo- Yeah, living things dream.(Begins walking away) but i died awhile back.

(Summer and storm watch as Oreo makes his way in the stairs and outsight)

Summer and Storm- You have a heart. sometimes black, sometimes red. which means you aere living.

(Oreo almost to the bunks whipers to himself)

Oreo- but, what am i living for?

Michael pops the lid on the cold drink, sniffs it and sighs contentedly. He ain't had real juice in a long while.

Then he pulls out his Portable Cortex Reader, taps a few times and then spins it about so Shiny can see the screen.

"This 'ere is whot's got me on the run from the Alloiance. Ever heerd of a planet 'Miranda'? Most 'aven't, but this ship's fulla folk ain't most. This 'ere data is proof that the Alloiance knew the affects of the Pax- that chemical whot makes Reavers, knew 'em and ignored 'em."

Shiny looks at the screen displaying scientific jargon, molecular diagrams, and locations for production, and then stunned at Michael as he speaks.

"That's awful! But... but why do you have it here on the table?"

"Oi forgot yeh werint there when Oi told the Cap'n. It fell to me boi accident during a smugglin joib. Asides, this ain't the 'ole thing, juss a copy for research an such. The 'igh density data disk is safely put awoy."

Michael clears the info from the screen, and pulls up a video and turns it for Shiny:

***[Static crackling]***
Mal. Guy killed me, Mal. He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?

I got a short span here. They destroyed my equipment... but I have a backup unit.

Bottom of the complex, right over the generator.

Hard to get to. I know they missed it.

They can't stop the signal, Mal.

Michael holds the still frame at the end of the video up next to his face to let Shiny see both at once.

"'Ee loik familiar to yeh? Mr. Younivearse was mah yoinger brother. Oi didn't know till Oi saw the video, and did some diggin' on the Cortex. 'Ee and our third left home as youngin's. Meh Ma would surely like it ifn 'er triplet boys came home. Shiny, its the only way Oi can go home- with James alive and Kevin 'ere (rest 'is soul) in a pine box."

Michael hangs his head as he puts away the PCR. His breathing seems ragged.

"So, lass. That enough not-silence for yeh?"

Shiny sits back Speechless.
She keeps looking at Michael then the cortex reader. She's trying to taken in everything that he just said. Shiny not knowing what to make of his story. Take a big sip of her drink.

Shiny, "Miranda u say? I've heard rumors of a place
but that's about all. I do know first hand the alliance is messing with reaver DNA. Their the ones who turned Oreo into what he is."

Shiny starts thinking about Michael and his two other brothers, seems a little much to take.

Shiny, Looks at Michael, trying to read him.
She's feeling sorry for him. But knows she's been lied to before. But still what if he's telling the truth?

Shiny try's to lighten the air, "Michael you certainly have a knack for filling the silence."

Michael glances up at shiny then back at his cortex reader.

Shiny,Maybe you should talk to the Captain and Oreo. They might know more about all this.

Shiny gets up and coms OREO and the CAPTAIN to come to the galley.

Shiny, starts getting some food out of the fridge

Shiny,"Michael you can tell them if you want, I'm leaving that up to you."

Shiny starts taken leftover food out and placing it on the stove.

Shiny,"It's about time we eat something around here. It's Mostly protein but its food."

Shiny, turns her back to Michael and starts stirring the pots. repeating the word Miranda over and over in her head. Then it hits her, She's heard it from her father. Shiny sighs and whispers, "it figures."

(Oreo is in his bunk cleaning his PP-R rifle when shinys voice comes over his com)

***Shiny***

Captain. Oreo. Can you both come to the galley?

***end***

(Oreo sticks a cleaning thistle brush down the barrel)

Oreo- Hmmmm...

(Oreo pulls the brush out sticks it back within his cleaning kit and places the rifle back on the rack with the others weapons. He slowly removes himself from his bed, making sure to grab a piece of paper before exiting. Oreo, makes his way to the galley. Stepping inside he notices Shiny cooking, but he barely makes eye contact, then he notics michael sitting at the table starring at him)

Oreo- Shake your head gorramit! Your eyes are stuck!

Michael- Forgive me lad, for starring, meant you harm by by.

(Oreo slides himself into a seat and waits)

shiny turns around to See Oreo.
who clearly is ignoring her.
She try's to make eye contact even though she knows oreo see's her, He's acting like he don't.

Shiny exchanges looks with Michael, then turns back to the stove. the tension is thick.

Shiny debates on asking Oreo to get the dishes for her. Their too high for her to reach. She decides not to. She grabs a chair and gets them herself. when Putting the chair back shiny Shoves it into its place. Now she's getting Irritated.

Shiny, takes the food off the the stove and places it in the middle of the table.

Shiny, "remember to save some for the captain."

Shiny losing her appetite leaves the room.

on the bridge O2 maneuvers TRANQUILITY away from AQUILA, and into the black...
away from the 'decoy', SERENITY, who is drawing the ALLIANCE cruiser off in a different direction.

SHADOW:
"nice work... as always OUT2THEBLACK. i'm headin' to the galley,
lets go see where my crew wants to go next.
[sarcastically]:
there's just a galaxy of fun that awaits us."

as SHADOW heads down to the galley, a new alert comes over the cortex:

the captain, walking to the galley hears shinys 'com to him and OREO.
he also hears most of the conversation coming from the galley as he approaches it from the hall.
he enters the galley and sits at the table.

SHADOW:
"hey all. MICHAEL, i heard more of your story and us headin' to MIRANDA, or any other such place,
sounds 'good a plan as any, to hide from the ALLIANCE cruiser that's lookin' for us.
'sides, we can round up more data on OREOS condition while we're there.
we'll find your brothers... long as it jives with what needs doin'.
we'll have someone analyze those disks that have you and OREO the subjects of much musin'.

Shiny walks to the engine room. She listens to the
therapeutic hum of the engine.

Shiny grabs a book then jumps into her hammock.
She lays their swinging, thinking about what Michael said.

Then thinking of her conversation with Oreo in her bunk.
Shiny's eyes get a little teary when she thinks about the folder under her pillow.

She opens the book and her pen rolls out onto her lap. She picks it up, at the top of the page she rights the date and time.

Shiny starts writing she can't write fast enough to keep up with her brain. It's been awhile since shiny wrote in her personal journal but it was much need.

She writes her thoughts hope and dreams along with what has happened over the past weeks including that time on serenity. Shiny thinking about that day, sighs and smiles she's writing feverishly lost in her words.

(Oreo begins a conversation with the captain)

Oreo- we gotta job yet?

Captain- I'll tell you, finding a respectable job ain't easy like it used to be...

Oreo- what about a not respectable job?

captain- You don't really pick on....nevermind.... we have other things need attending to first, once we reach miranda, we look Michael brothers and see about you.

Oreo- This piece of fei-oo has kin?

Michael- yes, two brothers actually.

Oreo- and we're going to pick them up.

Captain- that'd be the notion.

(Oreo stands up)

Oreo- gettin awfully crowd captain.

Captain- It's my ship, i'll say when it's too crowded.

(Oreo glares at michael)

Captain- where did shiny get off to.

(Oreo turns without responding and leaves)

Michael- So, why keep a person with his unique attributes on board.

(The Captain cracks a smile)

Captain- he's good with people.

Shiny's brought back to reality by the rumblings
of her stomach.

She finishes writing her thought down, then puts the pen back in her book and closes it.

Shiny gets off the hammock and walks over to her Hiding spot and puts her journal away.

She then walks to the galley. Everyone's gone.
She grabs some food from the fridge and cooks herself a meal.

Once the meal is done, Shiny sits down and starts eating and Thinking.

wondering what's really going on between her and Oreo. And About Micheal's story and the folder under her pillow.

Shiny mutters to herself out loud....
"Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie".

as TRANQUILITY heads to MIRANDA,
a huge solar flare erupts and blasts the ship way off course,
and into deep space, disabling her main thrusters and communications.
SHADOW has a poem come to mind:

`And now the STORM-BLAST came, and he
Was tyrannous and strong:
He struck with his o'ertaking wings,
And chased us south along.

With sloping masts and dipping prow,
As who pursued with yell and blow
Still treads the shadow of his foe,
And forward bends his head,
The ship drove fast, loud roared the blast,
The southward aye we fled.

And now there came both mist and snow,
And it grew wondrous cold:

Sitting in the galley finishing up her meal,
Shiny feels the ship shaking.
She jumps up and runs to the engine room.
She pulling wires and reattaching then to diffrent parts.
when finished she runs to the the bridge telling 02 what she's doing.
She gets underneath the main console and starts rerouting the wires when done,Shiny stands up.
"OK I managed to reconfigure the control panel and the engine. We won't have a lot of power but if you fire the thrusters Gently we can control her. but... We still wont know where we are until we can get the main communications to work."

Shiny leaves the bridge and heads back to the engine room. on the way she see's Oreo. Shiny glances at Oreo and shyly smiles. "we lost our main thrusters, I managed to rewire them for the
time being but we have no communications. Well I'll be in the engine room if you wanna Talk or something."
Shiny getting a little embarrassed at her vulnerability, Awkwardly smiles then rushes back to the engine room. Shiny wonders if one of Michael devises could help them get back on course.
Shiny coms Michael and tells him of the situation
she ends the com with...."if you have anything that could help please let us know."

Shiny goes back to work on the engine.

(Still in the desert)

(Claire wakes up in the middle of the night. She sees Elbarto, shirtless, looking into the mirror. He seems to be looking ant his numerous scars. She gets up and tip toes as quietly as she can to Elbarto.)

El: Sorry if I woke you.

Claire: I was quiet as as mouse. How did you hear me?

El: Your breathing patterns changed.

Claire: What are you doing hun?

El: Each one of these scars tells a story, usually one of sacrifice.

( Claire drapes her arms around his neck and starts feeling his chest)

Claire: Where did you get that one?

El: I was fighting Alliance super reavers.

Claire: you want to go back to your ship don't you?

El: Yes, I love being here with my brothers, but something is missing. Will you come with me if I go back?

Claire: You know I will.

El: Then its time I call my ship.

When you can't run you crawl. When you can't do that...well...you know the rest.

(Oreo follows Shiny to the engine rooms)

Oreo- What is going on? Whats wrong with the ruttin ship?!

shiny- We've been knocked off course by a solar flare, engine's are on the fritz.

Oreo- So we might die?

Shiny- Well, it's always a possiblity. Long as we don't get jit by another flare, i should be able to stablize tranquility, gettin us back on course is between o2 and the ship.

(Confused, Oreo just nobs. Shiny, notices that everything she said has gone over his head)

Shiny- we'll be fine, i promise.

(A look of satifaction slates over Oreo's face)

Shiny- can you go find Michael and tell him to come down here.

Oreo- Who?

Shiny- Michael? The New Guy?

Oreo(A hint of jealously)- Oh, alright.

(Oreo turns and walks out. Shiny whispers to herself)

Shiny(Chuckles)- He's jealous, maybe he's somewhat human after all.

"Ai Ya! Hwai Leh! Thot felt loik we'ze been hit with daxiang baozhashi de laduzi!"

Michael is still yelling at the top of his lungs up the stairs when Oreo appears suddenly, right in his face. Oreo glares menacingly. His baritone voice makes Michael startle:

"Well? Git up there and do sommat about it. Can't you here Shiny calling for you?"

"Oi, ye skeered the bleedin' piss outta me. Enjoy bein' the big, frightnin beasty, don' ya?" he squeezes carefully past, trying not to bump into Oreo, and returns to tapping away at his Cortex reader on the way up the stairs.

Shiny is back in the engine room checking levels and fine-tuning Tranquility into more thrust. Michael's too busy staring at his screen to notice Shiny's feminine form covered in engine grime. Oreo, staring over Michael's shoulder certainly doesn't.

"Shiny lass, ye called me? Mah reader lost connection, last Stellar Positioning System update had us enroute to Mir'anda, passing 'er star. We lost?"

Oreo huffs sarcastically, and drops into the jumpseat next to the door of the engine room.

"All your fancy technology and all you've come up with is the same gorram thing everyone else knew since the thump on the hull."

He kicks his booted feet up into a relaxed position and looks over at Shiny.

"Don't fret Shiny, you'll fix her up"

Suddenly, too late really, Michael realizes the situation happening around him between Oreo and Shiny. He's embarrassed by his oblivion and doesn't know where to go from here. He turns to leave, thinks better of it, turns back to Shiny and Oreo, then hiccups nervously.

(fellow VFF'ers, my apologies for my absence. I was away on a work trip with little time or network access. If it occurs in the future, which it might, please continue without me. Sorry!)

Shiny's startled by Michaels hiccup she spins around fast and faces him. Seeing he's embarrassed Shiny smiles....

"hey Michael, would you mind handing me that wrench."

Michael looks in the direction shiny is pointing
he grabs the wrench and hands it her.
Shiny looks at the wrench then puts it in her pocket.

Oreo watching shiny has a funny look on his face.

Shiny, "in case I need it later."

Shiny leans over engine frustrated that she can't get the thrusters to kick in full force,

Shiny,"Ta ma de, TA MA DA"!

Shiny starts muttering to herself, forgetting Michael and Oreo can hear her.

When words fail Michael, he turns to technology. This situation seemed to call for it. Seeing a Universal Data Connection port on the engine diagnostic panel, Michael fishes out a cable and plugs in his Cortex Reader. It takes a while for the information to transfer, and once its up on the screen, Michael realizes he did not pay enough attention in basic engine maintenance in school.

"Uh, lassie, yer engine's talkin' to meh, boit Oi'm afriad Oi don't speak 'is langwich. Mighten ye shoild take a loik?"

Then it strikes Michael. Didn't Shiny call him up here? Why, just to hand her a wrench? No...

Shiny straitens up and stands next to Michael
their staring at the screen. After a moment shiny looks at Michael....
"huh" she says then walks
back over to the engine she starts inspecting the wires.
Shiny whispers to herself,"unbelievable."

She then disconnects two wires and reconnects them in the reverse order.

As soon as she does the engine kicks in full force.

Shiny so Happy closes the engines hood and walks over to Michael and gives him a hug.

Shiny," Tranquility is back in action."

Smiling a big smile Shiny looks at Oreo.

Oreo not looking as happy as shiny thought he would. "Yeah, Well I knew you would fix it all along."

the captain coms the engine room,
"Shiny, good job,but our communications are still down. 02's still working on it.
ends com.

Shiny looks at both Oreo and Michael.
"well I suppose I'm off to the Bridge to help 02."

shiny looks at Michael, If you think that thing can help us then come to the bridge with me."

Then Shiny looks at Oreo who's still sitting in the jump seat." You just gonna sit there all day?"

Oreo annoyed with Shiny,"whats its to you if I do?"

Shiny laughs, "Oreo I'm only joking."

Shiny heads for the Bridge.

"Tranquility has just gone off the grid sir."

Ojin:
"Try to get a fix on her."

in the engine room, SHINYFRYE gets TRANQUILITY back on her feet.
on the bridge, O2 and the captain talk.

O2:
"i can probably land her cap.,
but the ships communications are fried.
we're also probably 'dark' to anyone that's lookin'
for us."

SHADOW:
"that can be a good thing too. we're close to reaver space now. reavers could be hungry...or worse.
maybe that solar flare was a blessing in disguise."

TRANQUILITY continues to limp towards MIRANDA, and alongside a large floating belt of scrap.

O2:
"'kay cap, MIRANDA'S coming up."

SHADOW:
We still 'dark'?"

O2:
"should be."

SHADOW:
"don't like the sound of that 1st word.
alright, land us just ouside the city where the
SERENITY crew landed."

O2:
"do my best."

suddenly a reaver ship, hidden in the scrapbelt,
launches a harpoon at TRANQUILITY.
it finds its mark with a loud ***BANG*** on TRANQUILITYS port side engine,
causing her to spin out of control. as the ship spins toward MIRANDAS atmo',
it begins to shake heavily.

SHADOW 'coms the crew:
"everyone strap in, it's gonna get bumpy."

O2 regains partial control.

O2:
"won't be comin' down anywhere near where you wanted cap. looks like it's gonna be on the other side of the planet."

O2 continues to struggle with navigating the ship to a safe landing area, away from the oceans.

O2:
"maybe... that green continent. there.
i think we're landin' in that green, jungley,
tree covered, non-flat, jaggedy, area that doesn't have anything close to a flat landing pad."

just then, O2 sees a light on the ground, flash slowly, like a beacon, off to his left.

*he thinks*
maybe there's a reason for that light to be there.
lets hope its flat.

O2 does his best to get the ship near the beacon.

"hang on travelers!"

TRANQUILITY hits the treeline hard, causing her to spin sideways.
the starboard engine tears off as the ship spins into a large tree.
TRANQUILITY comes down hard in the middle of a jungle with a broken wing, and a large reaver spear in the other.

the crew are all momentarily knocked out from the impact.

SHADOW, on the edge of consciousness, hears that voice in his head again.

* At length did cross an Albatross,
Thorough the fog it came;
As if it had been a Christian soul,
We hailed it in God's name.

It ate the food it ne'er had eat,
And round and round it flew.
The ice did split with a thunder-fit;
The helmsman steered us through! *

SHADOW wakes up and 'coms the crew:
"report..."

as the captain waits for the crew to check in, O2 checks the controls.

O2:
"cap', i'm gettin' some strange readings from this place. coms still down but i'm gettin' what looks like weak transponder codes from at least one other ship... or maybe it's something else.
'hard to tell, system took a lot of damage. it'll take a while to suss it all out."

SHADOW:
"you get to work on that, i'll check on the crew, maybe have a look outside-see what the damage is."

the captain heads to see how the crew is.

a loud creaking sound comes from outside the ship.
then a loud howl in the distance, making SHADOW remember a few more lines from the poem that keeps haunting him, like a voice in his head:

`The ship was cheered, the harbour cleared,
Merrily did we drop
Below the kirk, below the hill,
Below the lighthouse top.'

then more...

'And through the drifts the snowy clifts
Did send a dismal sheen :

SHADOW meets SHINY on her way to the bridge.

SHADOW:
"nice work on the engine by the way. you ok?"

SHINY:
"yup, i strapped in when you said to but i had to get up to see how bad she is. so... how bad off is she?"

SHADOW:
"don't know yet, but..."

SHINY:
"i know, we landed real hard."

SHADOW:
"how's the others?"

SHINY:
"i was just gonna go check."

SHADOW:
"you go do that, i'll check outside."

SHADOW leaves the ship to assess the damage, gun drawn.
it's major.
a bright light slowly washes over him and fades off
into the distance.

*thinks*
landed hard? THATS a fact.

he comes back inside to address the crew.
he sees OREO as his enters the ship.

OREO:
"what's the situation cap?"

SHADOW:
"she's real bad. we won't be goin' anywhere soon.
it's getting dark. i think you and i should go out at first light and scout the area. but first,
let's check on the others."

OREO nods.

a bright light illuminates the windows of the ship, then fades into the distance.

Michael was heading down the stairs in the cargo bay when the ship is hit. As usual, he's not looking where he's going, he's reading his PCR. The physical jolt slams him into the handrail, and he reels.

Just as he's certain he's going to fall, his foot catches on some old dangling cables, and with a lurch he's swung out over the cargo bay area, 12 feet above the deck.

"Well, then. How W'rin Bu Lai, Whai W'rin Bu Jwo.!"

shiny in search of the rest of the crew walks into the cargo bay. She hears Michaels voice. she's looking all around then she looks up.

"Michael! You Ok?! Shiny trying not to chuckle at
the situation, comments.

"Your right, Things never seem to go smooth. Not on this ship anyways."

Shiny is following the wires with her eyes.
She trying to figure how to get him down safely.

"Michael. Hang tight, (shiny chuckles) Where gonna need Oreo. He's the only one strong enough to help get you down."

Shiny walks away and coms Oreo, To come and help.

As Michael is pondering how much he does NOT want Oreo to help him down, his PCR begins ringing and buzzing (apparently picking up a signal from Miranda's old comm network). As he tries to flip it open, it buzzes right out of his finger tips and falls into the grate in the floor below. Shadow walks back into the cargo bay, and notices Michael hanging by his ankle.

"Not exactly what I had in mind when I ordered the crew to strap in, Michael."

SHADOW watches the device fall into the grates.
he looks up.

"looks like you're the only one who has... or had any communication with the outside world. our communications are fried."

he continues as he begins to get MICHAEL down.

"it gets worse. i just took a look at the outside of the ship. we'll be here a while. we've got a couple broken wings, and at least 1 shuttle has major damage. anyway, we'll know more in the morning when we can see better. it's getting foggy out there. i'll be scouting the area after that. you're welcome to come if you like. we should get some rest."

MICHAEL:
"how are the others?"

"most are ok, TWINS have some cuts from flying debris. KAT is unconscious in the medlab. figure she was strappin' the kids in when we hit."

SUMMER calls up to MICHAEL from under the grate.
he's holding the pieces of MICHAELS PCR:
"hey mister, your thing is broken."

the ships windows light up white, from the outside source momentarily, then darken again.

the voice in SHADOWS head speaks again:

the crew has a hard time sleeping.
noises from outside the ship, intermittently break the quiet, during the night. what sounds like footsteps are soon followed by a very low, howling sound, which seems to drive the 1st sounds away.

morning breaks.

O2 has fixed the internal ships 'com, but no other communication is working.

SHADOW 'coms the crew:
"mornin' all. O2 and i will be goin' out into the jungle to see what we're dealin' with.
OREO, MICHAEL, you're both welcome to come. SHINY, i need you to look after KAT and THE TWINs... just for a spell.

The captain's comm comes through when Michael has just gotten the shattered shell off the PCR. Most of the internal electronics seem okay, maybe a few snapped connections on the GPX chip.

Though he's not keen on wild jungly exploration after last nights eerie noises, Michael feels he best join in. He swaps his comfy loafers for a pair of decent boots and puts on his dirtiest and least favorite clothes. He heads down to the cargo bay to retrieve his weapons cache.

When the Captain and Oreo enter the cargo bay, Michael is standing there patiently, a large Bowie knife on his belt, a bandolier holding a dozen or more throwing knives, a machete in each hand, and the handle of what appears to be a katana curving up from behind his back.

"Top o' the mornin', gents. ...The world 's mine oyster, Which I with sword will open."

Shiny looking at Michael seeing all his Knives seems to confirm to her that she's not the only one
who has an eerie feeling about this place.

"fine."

Shinys to proud to say she's frightened to stay behind.

Oreo sensing whats wrong walks over to shiny and puts his arm around her shoulders and whispers. "you'll be fine, I promise."

SHADOW, OREO, O2 and MICHAEL start their survey of the jungle around them.
it's early in the morning but the heat and humidity
are already taking their effect.

the 4 head east.
they soon come to what looks like a 'border', were the jungle thins out some.
a few yards later, something catches their eye.
it's a sign on a tree:

SHADOW:
"well MICHAEL, looks like your friends have been here."

O2:
"looks like some of them still are."

O2 points to a corpse, sitting with his back to a tree, and a gun in his hand. he's wearing an ALLIANCE project worker uniform,
with a patch on the left breast, that matches the sign on the tree.

MICHAEL:
"suicide?"

O2:
"looks like."

OREO searches the dead worker and finds an ID card along with some other things that he puts into his pocket.
he hands the ID card to the captain.

SHADOW:
"let's keep moving."

just past the sign, they come to a series of steel poles that appear to run a perimeter.

O2:
"electric?"

SHADOW:
"probably. lets find a way to test..."

OREO walks right between two of the poles.

OREO:
"fence ain't workin', let go."

no one moves.

OREO:
"you guys chicken?"

the other 3 are looking up above OREOS head, and off into the distance.
OREO turns around and looks up.
the 4 are looking at a black tower that reaches well above the tree line that lies in front of it.
it resembles an 'earth that was' lighthouse-except much taller.

SHADOW:
"anyone curious?"

the 4 continue on.
the shadow of the tower starts to envelope them a mile before they get to the black lighthouse. it takes them longer to reach it than expected.
they walk around the huge building looking for an entrance, but no luck. it's just smooth black stone, all around,
except were one side of the lighthouse abuts the ocean.

MICHEAL:
"the entrance has to be down there."

he points to a rough path that leads down to the beach below.
the 4 go down the path and see a wide, semi-circle stone patio that reaches over the shoreline.
it's connected to a lower level of the lighthouse. they walk over to it and find a door.

OREO tries the door:
"it's locked."

SHADOW uses the workers ID card.
the door slides open.
the 4 walk into the building and straight down a hallway that leads into a giant octagonal room with a door at each of the sides.
at the center of the room is a large 8 sided table with 8 computer terminals aligned with each door.

SHADOW:
"let's see if we can contact some help."

O2 checks 1 of the terminals.

O2:
"looks like it's on a small network. we can contact other terminals that are on this same 'closed' circuit."

SHADOW:
"see what you can do."

SHADOW walks over to a large bookcase and takes out one of the books. its a journal.

"looks like the 'keeper' logged everything that happened here."

(Oreo stares at the book in the captains hand)

Oreo-How's about you forget that eerie ass book and let get movin?

(The captain looks up at Oreo)

Captain- Don't tell me you're scared. I should have left you on the ship and brought shiny.

(Michael snickers. Oreo quickly fires a round from his Kr-20 repeater sending it sailing and ricocheting off the concrete floor a few inches from Michael s foot.)

Oreo- Not Scared. Just cautious is all. Wanna get outta this rutting uber creepy place.

(o2 checks around looking for signs of movement)

o2- doesn't look like Oreo shot was heard Captain. (turns to Oreo) probably not my place to say but you might want to holster weapon from here on out , less you really need to use.
(walking away) gonna have the whole damn place coming down on us.

(Michael walks up to Oreo. mouth open ready to say something. Oreo quickly pulls out a pistol and jams it into his forehead.)

Oreo- Turn around and walk away

(Michael steps back a few paces, turns and walks away. captain stares at Oreo in disapproval. Oreo begins to holster his pistol)

Oreo- Its not like i pulled it on you

Captain- You did...

(Oreo quickly looks up at the captain)

Oreo- What?

(The captain gets right into Oreo's face)

Captain- you shot at my crew! you pulled a gun on my crew!

Oreo- He ain't your crew Captain!

Captain- He's on my ship, He's my crew when i conjure he is. and right now, He Is. You are on your last dog leg with me.

Oreo- Is that right?

Captain- Yes, it is.

(Oreo finishes holstering his pistol and turns and walks in the opposite direction)

Captain- Where do you think you're going?

(Oreo pulls out his com from his jacket pocket and tosses it over his shoulder towards the captain)

Oreo- I ain't your problem no more.

(o2, Michael and the Captain watch as Oreo disappears into the jungle. The captain coms Shiny)

Shiny, Oreo just walked. Keep a look out for him. Com Me if he gets back there to the ship.

each of these 8 terminals has a corresponding door."

he points to each of the 8 doors that surround them.

O2 continues:
"they each have a password that won't be easy to crack. i can also use these terminals to contact remote terminals -
ones that seem to be in other stations just like this one, on different points on MIRANDA.
looks like they have a few of these stations positioned all over the planet...
some kind of monitoring network."

SHADOW listens to O2 as he continues to flip through the journals of the stations 'keeper'.

SHADOW:
"looks like this 'keeper' guy has been the only one here for a while. before that, the ALLIANCE had a crew of 4 workers assigned
to work here and help him with that COLOUR SCHEMER PROJECT. they worked and lived here for 3 months at a time.
then a new 'shift' would replace the 1st crew.
but the KEEPER would remain here."

SHADOW and MICHAEL start to look around the station. the 8 doors cannot be opened without a password,
so they go back to the entry hall and try to find a way up.
they do find a stairwell that winds it's way up along the inside wall of the lighthouse.
each level that they come to has a heavy door with a pass code panel next to it.

SHADOW:
"i'm thinkin' we need to start lookin' for some passwords or codes or somethin'."

it takes them a long while to get near the top but they are stopped by a wall before the final few levels.

SHADOW:
"we should think about getting back to the ship before it gets dark."

MICHAEL:
"i'm with you."

the 2 go back down the stairs and get O2.
they begin to head back.
SHADOW brings a journal.

in on Kat once in awhile.
the twins are in the galley eating a snack Shiny made for them.

When the Captain coms her she jumps.
she can feel hairs on the back of her neck stands up.

She's clearly spooked and now worried about Oreo.

Shiny walks to the cargo bay and sits on a crate.
She pulls her gun out of the back of her pants. she sits there staring at it, thinking, waiting.

After being shot at by Oreo, noticing the type of firearm and the clip, Michael walks over to Oreo.

Oreo- Turn around and walk away.

Michael steps back, a row begins between the Captain and Oreo, and Oreo walks out.

Michael looks sheepish at Shadow and O2.

"Oi was only gonna point oiut thot 'is clip was noiw empty, an' 'e needed ta reload. Sorry if moi flowery scented arse offends yer crew, Cap'n."

Later, on the way back to the ship, Michael turns to Shadow.

"Cap'n, Oi noticed some comm equipment back in thot creepy vertical tomb. Maybe 02 an' Oi could scrounge sommat together, get Tranquility talkin' again? Tomorree, o'course. Oi was 'earing some queer sounds from the jungle last noight, and have no mind ta be outta doors after noightfall. But yon boat ain't gonna fly us nowhere iffin we don't get some parts ordered."

Just then something stirred in the bushes, and a flash of bright steel flies from Michael's hand. A strangled yelp precedes a dead monkey falling from the bush to the ground.

MICHAEL: Sorry, Cap'n, Oi'm jumpy out 'ere.

He steps over to retreive his knife and cries out.

MICHAEL: Wo de ma he ta de fengkuang de waisheng dou! Cap'n, you ain't gonna believe this...

the group returns to the marooned TRANQUILITY in the jungle just before nightfall.

SHADOW responds to MICHAELS question:
"we'll do that 1st thing. i conjure we won't be findin' what we need to get our girl spaceworthy,
but we should be able to get her smilin' at least. 'sides, we still got shuttle #1.
checked her out earlier and she looks good for at least short range. lets try to get some sleep.
we got our work cut out for us."

the night is less eventful than the last.
still the occasional light, washing over the ship.

Day 10, 3 am

I only have a moment.
They need us at our stations. The PAX Project was released early for some reason.
The 'monitoring' is exhausting, and they have only given me 5 minutes break today.
I have just been contacted by one of the other Monitoring Stations while at my console,
by a man named Michael.
I don't know if he is a 'Keeper' like me, or just a worker, but he was frantic.
It sounded as if there was some sort of uprising or something at his Station.
He was cut off before he could explain.

My 5 minutes are up...

shiny hears the Captain and Michael talking.
She gets up off the crate she was sitting on and makes herself looks busy. They both walk past her and out of the cargo bay.

Shiny puts her gun back into the back of her pants
and leaves the ship.

She walks out into the jungle Its very quiet, eerie. She's scared but she needs to find Oreo.

Once she's far enough away from Tranquility she
coms the Captain.

Shiny, "Captain, I'm just letting you know I have left Tranquility to search for Oreo, And as soon as I find Him I will com you."

Captain," Shiny, you return to the ship, Oreo will come back when He's ready and if he don't
Well, then we will all go find him."

Shiny," Captain, If Oreo walked away upset, my guess He doesn't want to be found. But I'm Hoping
he will listen to me."

Shiny ends the com then turns it off for awhile.

Shiny's walking slow she has a small flashlight
that she has used on the engine from time to time.

Those noises can now be heard off in the distance, It makes her shiver.

She finds a spot under a tree and sits down. she leans her back against it.

SHADOW and MICHAEL leave O2 to guard the rest of the crew in TRANQUILITY and go out to search for SHINY.
it takes most of the the night, but they finally find her asleep under a tree.

the sun is just starting to rise.

SHADOW:
"might as well wait for her to wake up. ain't dark anymore. still think she's dumb as a rock for leavin' at night, but she made it.
we'll go straight to the lighthouse and see if we can contact anyone on those terminals as soon as she wakes up.

SHADOW looks around the area while he waits for SHINY to wake up. he sees an odd shape in the overgrowth, a few yards off the path.
he walks over to it.

SHADOW:
"looks like some kind of vent."

the 3 walk towards the black lighthouse.
they enter the 8 sided room.
SHADOW begins to try access the main MIRANDA database.

he then notices a 'card slot' to his right.
it's connected to the system.
he uses the ID card that OREO took off the dead project worker, and inserts it.

=PROJECT PASSWORD?=

SHADOW thinks about the sign he saw near the electrified fence and enters:

SHADOW tries again to access the main database and finds that this station can access almost any classified data that the ALLIANCE has on any project.
he types in:
'MICHAEL O'SNEARY'

the computer brings up a screen:

"hey Michael, you might want to check this out."

SHADOW makes a 'hard copy' of the screen as MICHAEL walks over.

SHADOW hands the ID to MICHAEL.

(Elbarto on Alliance shuttle overlooking Miranda)

(Elbarto overlooks Miranda with awe. He still hasn't quite figured out why he was sent here. He looks at the other two people who came with him, Claire and Lao.)

Lao: I don't get it brother, there are cities and everything, but no ground traffic.

El: It's a dead planet. Nothing the three of us can handle. Why don't you begin entry Claire.

(Suddenly the ship is rocked by a concussion wave)

Claire: Reavers on port and starboard! What do you want to do?

(El, without talking, puts his hand on Claire's and jams the throttle all the way forward. The ship jets toward the planet. The Reavers follow suit.)

**Meanwhile**

(Shadow and the others hear a sonic boom.)

Shadow: What was that? Shiny go see what that was.

(shiny goes to a window)

shiny: Cap! It's another ship. Looks like it's being chased by reavers!

Shadow: May luck be with them.

**Back on the shuttle**

El: Claire, land on that out crop. As soon as the ship lands everyone bail out.

(Claire barely lands the ship. Everyone and heads for the cover of the forest. The reavers land, and overtaken by bloodthirst head after the trio.)

When you can't run you crawl. When you can't do that...well...you know the rest.

Shiny turns away from the window. She walks over to
a shelf and takes a book of it.
She blows the dust of the book then opens it.
She starts flipping through the pages when a Piece of folded paper falls onto the floor. Shiny bends down to pick it up.
Michael looks at shiny then back at what he's doing.
Shiny unfolds the piece of paper and starts reading. Her eyes start scanning the list of names. The stop when she see's her Fathers name listed. She then reads....
" Guest of honor to be recognized for all His work and Generosity for a better Tomorrow."
Then her fathers name was written in Parenthesis.

Shiny feeling disgusted folds the piece of paper back up and tucks it into her pocket.

Shiny walks outside of the lighthouse.
Shiny looks at the tree's in the distance
missing Oreo, Hoping to see his figure emerge from the forest.

Shiny turns away,and stares at the Ocean.
she can't help but feel sickened by her father.
A small tear escapes her eye and rolls down her check, when thinks about what the alliance did to Oreo.

Shiny picks up a few small rocks and starts tossing them one by one into the water.

Lao: they're gaining on us.

El: Shall we dance the blades brother?

(Lao gets a smile on his face that only true warriors recognize)

Lao: Lets do it.

El: Claire, keep running we'll catch up with you.

Claire: They have guns guys, your swords won't do the trick.

El: Babe, reavers love to butcher things. if we challenge them, they will come after us with blades. They will fight us because of their bloodlust. Now run!

(Claire runs further into the jungle. El and Lao drop their guns and stand side by side. They unsheath their katanas. A few seconds later two dozen reavers appear. They are somewhat startled by direct opposition, but nonetheless charge El and Lao get into ready stance.)

(Claire looks back in time to see the reavers plow into El and Lao. For a second she thinks that they are already dead. Then she starts to hear earsplitting screams. Among the chaos she sees flashes of metal. Suddenly the crowd parts and Claire can see El and Lao standing back to back. They have blood on their clothing but none of it is theirs. El and Lao start to move in perfect tandum almost as if they are mirror images of each other. Slashing, parrying, dodging. A few moments later the reavers are dead. Claire rushes back to them)

El:(Breathing heavily) Thats a rush.

Lao:(Sheathes his katana) Yep. We better get moving before they come in greater numbers.

Claire: I think i may have found a trail.

El: Lead on.

When you can't run you crawl. When you can't do that...well...you know the rest.

Shiny heads towards the galley for a drink.

Michael sees Shiny asking him a question, but the buzzing in his head drowns out any ability to make out her words.

He shakes his head, trying to clear the feeling of pressure on his ears. It starts to really hurt as Shiny walks off. Before she's out of sight, Michael realizes something is seriously wrong. But he can't cry out. Somehow he knows the pain will be worse if he does. He whispers:
"It isn't mine. The memory, it isn't mine. And I shouldn't have to carry it. It isn't mine. Don't make me sleep again."
And with that a blinding pain wracks Michael's thin frame from top to bottom. Blood vessels just under the skin burst from pressure, flushing his face bright red. His fingernails dig into his palms, drawing blood just before his spasming legs give out completely, sending him face first to the deck.

Inside his head, it is all chaos and pain. Brief flashes of the evidence TQ's crew has found are washed away by bright blue-white lights and shadowy figures. The buzzing sound has become an unending high squelch.

The sound of a 190lb man hitting the deck was enough to turn Shiny around, so she pokes her head back into the cargo bay. She sees Michael standing taller and more formally than normal. His face is bruised, and there's blood oozing from both hands.

SHINY: Michael, I heard a crash. Are you feeling okay?

His usual determined, cautious look is gone, replaced by a placid stare.

MICHAEL: Did I fall asleep? Shall I go now?

Shiny grabs the comm and calls Shadow.

SHINY: Ah, Cap'n. Things just got really strange down here in the cargo bay...

(Pulls out a piece of paper from his pocket)

Oreo(looking at paper)- What the hell am i doing?
I'm in the middle of ruttin jungle. Probably lost, with god knows what possibly waitin in the shadows to kick my ass. DAMN IT! IT"s LIKE BEING BACK IN GRADE SCHOOL!

(Oreo plops down on the jungle turf. he slides the piece of paper back into his pocket, at the same time pulling a cigarette out, places it between his lips and lights it. Oreo takes in a deep lung full of smokes and then exhales. Suddenly, bushes begin to rustles a yards away behind him. Oreo quickly leaps to his feet)

Oreo- what the... Who's there?

(Oreo pauses for a few seconds, waiting for a response. Nothing. Oreo chuckles to himself)

Oreo- Probably just some dumb animal

(Oreo laughs out loud only to be stifled once again by the rustling of the bushes. without hesitation Oreo takes in the direction of the noise only to be greeted by a blow to the head by some kinda blunt object. Quickly losing conscienceness Oreo manages to get a glimpse of a persons barefoot with a tattoo of a sun and moon joined together by snake of some kind.The blackness of unconscienceness sets in. hours later, Oreo awakens finding himself trapped inside a cage made of animal bones.)

Oreo- where the hell am i know?

(Oreo surveys his surroundings. it void of any human presence, or anything else for that matter. a small fire pit slowly buring out is the only thing showing signs of life.)

Oreo(sitting back against the cage)- Man, captain ain"t much gonna like the fact i done gone and got myself in another heap of fei-oo.

(suddenly he begins thinking of shiny)

Oreo- Arrgh! forget the captain! Shiny is gonna kill worse then shes probably already gonna, for walken off like i did. Things just from worse to even more worse.

Once Shiny's done comming the Captain She rushes to Michael.
Shiny," Michael your Bleeding!
Michael stares at Shiny with a blank expression
"Am I"?
Shiny Guides Michael to a crate and sits him down.

Shiny," I'll be right back."

Shiny runs to the sick bay and grabs some gauze and antiseptic then runs back to the cargo bay. She stops once she enters the cargo bay and watches Michael for a few seconds.
She's confused by the fact that Michael is Oblivious.

Michael looks at Shiny then back to staring at nothing.

Shiny walks over to him and takes one of his hands
"this is gonna sting a little." shiny pours some antiseptic on the wound. Shiny Grimaces knowing the feel of the sting she looks at Michael who has no reaction. She finishes wrapping that hand then grabs the other repeating the same process.

Once done she looks at Michaels bruised face. She crouches down to eye level (something she normally wouldn't be unable to do considering Michael is taller than her) And looks Michael in the eye's "Michael what happened?"
No response he just keeps staring off in space.
Again, "Michael are you ok?"

Michael looks at shiny but still doesn't say a word.
Shiny looks around then whispers, "AM I talking to
Michael?"
Shiny confused and unsettled straitens back up the sits on a crate across from Michael.

Shiny Talking loud,"I'm gonna sit here with you for awhile, I just wanna make sure your ok. OK?
Michael!? Shiny starts talking to herself "it figures the new guy freaks out and I'm the only one here to deal with it".

Shiny glances at Michael who's starring at her.
Shiny smiles at him. and thinks. "now he's thinking I'm nuts".

familair face- aaaaaah...you're finally awake. you know, you talk in your sleep. I figured only children did that. but then again, you're just like a child. easy to manipulate and bend.

(Oreo louges forward, the thick boned bars of his cage stopping him just inches from his captor)

Oreo- You rat! When will you just drown!

Familiar Face- Me? I don't desert my ship like most common rats. I a special kinda rat. (Grabs oreo's out reached arm), i'm like a cockroach really. I just won't die. Not for you anyways. Not after what you did.

Oreo- Yeah, that's right. Use we for an excuse for your cowardness.

familiar face- If i were you, i'd watch what you say. Because of your lack of focus, you have given me more then one chance to end you.

Oreo- then why haven't you. Because i want you alive to witness what should have taken places months and months ago.

(Oreo eyes widen. The familiar Face walks Off)

MICHAEL: Young lady, you keep calling me Michael. It seems very likely that you have confused me with someone else, although I cannot imagine who. Granted, I am a bit confused myself, having woke up on the deck of this gao se freighter...

Captain walks in on Michael calling his ship gao se in a formal 'Alliance' accent, and reels a bit from the double shock.

CAPT: What the?

MICHAEL: Oh, my apologies. I shouldn't have used such foul language in front of the lady, nor in regards to your spaceworthy craft. I hope my poor physical state is sufficient reason for my bad behavior. My name is Dennis Cockrum and I....

Michael screams in pain, grabbing his head, and again plummeting face-first into the deck. There's a nasty crunching sound as he hits. He writhes and twists, and his eyes slid open as the scream abates.

MICHAEL: (looking at her upside down from the floor) Shiny, lass, that you Oi see hangin' from the ceilin'? Ta ma duh, moi 'ead is achin'. Why Oi'm on the floor?

as the sun starts to set, the heavy mist rolls off the ocean and into the jungle, towards the derelict TRANQUILITY.

eerie sounds begin to echo in the distance.

SHADOW:
"let's get the ship sealed up for the night,
and find out what's wrong with MICHAELS brain pan. we go lookin' for OREO at sun-up."

SHADOW 'coms the crew:
"meeting in the galley in 10."

SHADOW contemplates telling the crew what he read
in THE BLACK LIGHTHOUSE JOURNALS.

She steps a few steps back and looks at him.
Trying to figure out whats wrong with him.

Shiny feeling uncomfortable and confused half smile's,"I think I did, Or still am.?

Shiny and Michael not realizing the Captain left the cargo bay until his com comes through.

Shiny, "Well I suppose we should head to the galley.
Shiny motions for Michael to go first.

Shiny is eager to hear how they are going to go about finding Oreo. She misses the big guy.

(night falls. oreo still sits captive within the confines of his cages. noise's from his stomach begin, signifying hunger.)

Oreo(oreo talking to himself)- i'd settle for a pinecone dipped in engine oil right about now.

(oreo stares off into the night.suddenly foots break the night silence. oreo shoots to his feet.)

jaykins- it's been a few days. i would say i'm surprised you're alive, but i'm not.

(oreo glares at jaykins as his he were trying to cut him in half with his eyes)

jaykins- i must say, i'm aittle surprised, you're friends haven't come looking for you. maybe they finally came to realize how dangerous you really are.

(oreo continues to glare)

jaykins- oh please, knock off the child behavior... in the morning, if hadn't recieved word of your crew looking for you, i may just have to send them a few bread crumbs to follow.

(oreo opens his mouth, ready to say something, but like a bolt o lightning, jaykins pulls and fires a military issued pistol and shoots oreo in the chest. oreo drops to the ground, blood spilling from his chest wound and mouth as he's gaspes for air. jaykins opens the door to the cage. step in and walks over to oreo. jaykins steps on oreos hand, pulls his pistol again and fires. as his reaches down, as screams out in agony.)

(back on tranquiliity shiny suddenly lifts her head. michael stares at her in confusion)

Michael- what is it? do you hear something?

shiny- I..I...I thought i heard....nothing. nevermind, it wasprobably just my imagination.

(back in the jungle)

jaykins- Ah yes, this will do nicely.This will be the first litte crumb. i think your trigger finger will put them on the right path. what do you think?

(jaykins turns and leaves)

jaykinis- oh, i think i'll leave the door open on your cage. i really dont think you're in any shape to go anywhere anyways.

(oreo stares gasping for air as jaykins walks away. he was right, oreo wasn't going anywhere. again, hewould have to put fate in thehands of his crew or die.)

Shiny is waiting Patently for the Captain.
She knows she heard something but not sure what it was. her Intuition tells her Oreo is in trouble she can feel it.

Shiny starts feeling anxious she looks at Michael,"We need to go find Oreo".

Michael,"the Captain said he will tells us the plan at the meeting."

Shiny, "ya?! well were is he?!
The rest of the crew sits around the table waiting for the Captain.

Shiny looks at 02 and Smiles, "Michael, 02 here is the best pilot in the Verse. I bet you didn't know that?!"

Shiny gets up and starts pacing the galley waiting.....

SHADOW, walking down the hallway to the galley, hears a sound from outside the ship.
then he hears SHINY talking about hearing something outside the ship and asking were the captain is.

SHADOW:
"i'm right here, and i heard it too.
sounded like gunfire, and with OREO out there i'm guessin' it has somethin' to do with him.
guess we'll have to start our hunt sooner than i thought.
the sound sounded like it came from the northwest, so -
SHINY, MICHAEL, you 2 go north, 'long as your brainpan is ok for now MICHAEL?
O2 and i will go west. we've already mapped the east - the black lighthouse area, and a few hundred yards south is the southern shore.
KAT will stay here locked up with the TWINS.

O2:
"cap, i've got scanners back online and i picked up multiple ship signatures and transponder signals scattered all over this island.
look to be ships that crash landed maybe... seein's how there ain't no place to land proper.
one, the last one that crash-landed, even looks to be a small ALLIANCE shuttle."

SHADOW:
"O.K., let's make some torches and start huntin'."

*SHADOW worries about sending his crew out into the 'enchanted forest'*

Shiny gets up from the Table looks at Michael,
"lets go".
Once outside the ship shiny and Michael each grab a torch.
Michael pulls out a compass and points in a direction, "that's north."

Michael starts walking Shiny hesitates then follows
right before shiny is about to enter the forest she stops and turns looking back at 02 and the Captain, they don't notice.

Shiny takes a deep breath then exhales. she looks at her torch and steps into the forest.

Shiny whispers loudly, "Michael? You feeling ok?"
Shiny hoping all is right with his "brain pan"

Michael continues walking, scanning the ground for tracks. But he occasionally tilts his head so Shiny knows he's listening.

"No, Oi ain't awright. Oi've passed out twioce inside an 'our whilst stuck on a eery planet with a broke ship and missin' shipmates. Oi'd rummage thru moi memories for a comparable toim, but the thinkin' back's whot landed moi face on the deck lass time."

"Oi thought you an' crazy-Reaver-man were, ahem, close. Not too bright a fella ta wolk away from so shiny a gal-named-Shiny. 'Specially not in these trees."

"Satan's ruttin' toe-jam, whot Oi wouldn' do for moi PCR woikin again. If we've not wandered wrongly, we should be nearin' thot Allioance shuttle O2 showed us on the scanners."

Shiny keeps a few paces behind Michael, listening, glad of his returned accent, but wary. Though a twig cracks behind her, she's so intent on Michael she doesn't hear Jaykins approaching until he grabs her by the neck and crams a gun into her back. She manages a muffled cry before Jaykins gets his hand over her mouth.

Michael wheels, knife in hand to see some brute holding Shiny by the throat. He brandishes a gun at her temple.

Jaykins: "Easy there, slick. I don't know you and you don't know me. This ain't your fight. Why don't you put the knife down, and the girly won't get hurt, much."

Michael sees no other option. He drops the knife in his hand to the ground about halfway between himself and Shiny. The man glances down as the knife falls, just long enough. With a flash, Michael kicks out his leg, flinging a hidden blade out of his boot sole and into the gun-weilding hand. The man drops the gun, tendon severed.
By the time the man reacts and begins to reach for something, three more blades come zipping in. Two strike just above either kneecap (meaning one passed between Shiny's struggling legs), the third strikes the man's other hand, nearly severing his middle finger. By this time, Michael has rushed the struggling pair, and scoops up Shiny in his arms. He runs into the darkness, back the way they came, not stopping until they are sealed inside Tranquility.

Michael: "You alright?"

Shiny's eyes are wide, even more shocked by Michael than before.

Shiny: "How? I mean, where did you... Wow, that was... We have to tell the Captain. I think I know that guy!"

She comms the captain, and double-checks the airlock security.

Shiny: "Hey, thanks for saving me back there. I didn't figure you for much of a fighter, since you didn't carry a gun."

Out in the woods, Jaykins pulls the throwing knives from his knees and hand. He won't be running right away, but he's certainly not out for the count.

"Fine, Mister Bowler Hat. You just got added to my list."

(jaykins limps into the darkness of the jungle)

Jaykins- Damnit! Its time to wipe them out. this ends here. i'll not be humiliated by a bunch of space trash.

(jaykins reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cloth soaked with blood and drops it)

Jaykins- the mice are here and here is the cheese. time to come play with the cat.

(Jaykins disappears into the jungle. a few hours later The captain makes his way along the same path as jaykins following his blood trail straight to the bloodied cloth. the captain shines a light on it.)

captain- Oh this can't be good.

(the captain reaches down and picks it up. he inspects and realizes the content wrapped inside. the captain rushes back to the ship. he finds the crew huddled around the the galley table)

Kat- captain, what are you so outta breathe for?

(the captain looks at shiny)

Captain-when you hit that guy outta there in the dark, do you think you may have wounded him then cuts or stabs.

(Shiny looks at Michael)

shiny- i don't know. he kinda came from nowhere. but Michae threw knnifes at him. i figure they would have just stuck him.

(The captain lets out a deep sigh)

captain- then we have one hell of a problem.

(the captain pulls out the bloodied cloth and places it on the table. the crew stares at it in disbelief)

o2- what the hell is that?

(The captain pulls the cloth from the object inside)

The crew- Oh my god!

shiny- is that...

kat- tell me that isn't what i think it is...

Captain- we gotta find him, and we gotta find him now.

(Back in the jungle, jaykins plops down down next to the cage. oreo tilts his head so he's facing jaykins)

Oreo(taking deep wheezy breathes)- so...its not...going...to be ...so easy...is...it?

(jaykins pulls out the last knife from his hand.)

jaykins- jesus christ, aren't you dead yet?

Michael sits quietly at the table, listening to the others, a throwing knife clutched in his teeth and two tiny screwdrivers in his hands. He's working on his PCR with a look of intense frustration and concentration.

KAT: "What's with the new guy?"

SHINY: "You mean dispite being crazy in the head, scary dangerous with a knife, and impossible to understand?"

At this Michael looks up, with a 'what'd I do' look, and returns to his electronics.

SHINY: "It's cause your present, Kat. He swears in about 3 different languages, especially when he's trying to fix something like he's doing now. The knife keeps him from saying something to harm your ears."

Sparks spit from the PCR, and Michael mumbles something through his knife and clenched teeth. Kat turns and looks horrorstruck.

KAT: "You filthy-mouthed rogue!"

O2: "Ah, shouldn't we be looking for the other 93% of Oreo?"

Shiny laughs at Michael.

Kat shoots Shiny a look of disapproval which makes
Shiny laugh more.

Shiny composes herself then gets a serious tone,
"Captain, I think It was Jaykins"
She pause's for a second,"no I Know it was."

Captains looks at Shiny, "You know that for sure?"

Shiny nods," I know his voice, a little to well."

Michael looks up at Shiny and takes his Knife out of his mouth,
"Who's Jaykins? And how do you know him?

Shiny feeling embarrassed, matter- of- factly says, " He's Alliance, Big time Alliance and I was engaged to him."

Michael, "Does Oreo know this?"

Shiny looks at the floor, "yeah, He knows."

Shiny and the Captain exchange looks, They both remember all to well what happened when She told Oreo.

Shiny, "enough talking lets get Oreo,"

Captain, "Shiny you stick close to Michael, With his Knife skills (the captain looks at the bloody
cloth on the Table) Jaykins Will hopefully think twice about grabbing you again.

Shiny nods as she pulls her gun out of the back of her pants and checks the chamber. Satisfied she puts it back. "I'm ready."

On the way through the hanger, Michael dips into his case stored behind a crate. He pulls out a small vial, and drips some of the contents on each of his now-replaced throwing knives.

"Oi don' like folk what chop off fingers an hold lasses hostage. But I really don' like Alloince purple-bellies. This..." he waggles the closed vial "...will ensure that we'll have to boi 'im a pine crate to express our sorrow."

He also straps an ancient katana to his back and runs to catch up to the rest of the crew.

Shiny spins around almost burning Michael with her torch.

Shiny, Michael?! You scared me!

The captain stops walking and turns around, "Shiny you ok?"

Captain, "well keep your voice down, We don't wanna attract unwanted attention."

The caption turns back around and starts walking again.

Shiny rolls her eyes and says under her breath, "A little too late for that don't ya think."

Michael looks at shiny and chuckles.

(Oreo begins to feel everything slow down. heartbeats. pulse. vision. breathing. Suddenly a distance memory flashes.Oreo steps out in an open field. the long grass blowing with the gentle breeze of the wind. birds performing aerial ballet overhead. Oreo holds his head over his eyes to block the sun. Oreo begins to walk toward a huge oak tree set in the middle of the field. as he draws closer, the sound of laughter fills the warm air. Oreo continues forward, suddenly a familiar voice is heard. "You two better be careful or you'll hurt yourselves", the voice says. Oreo crutches down to his hands and feet and continues forward. Soon other younger voice is heard. "mom, you worry to much. nothing will happen to us." Oreo comes to the end of the grass line. as he peers through the blades of the long grass, he see to children playing on a swing tied to the thickest branch of the tree. and a women, sitting on a blanket just a few feet adjacent to the children. Oreo eyes widen.)

Oreo- Mother? that means...

(Oreo glances at the children again)

Oreo- that's me and...Kat. when we was little. but how can that be? ain't no ruttin way!

(Oreo continues to watch and listen on)

Mother- oh, where is your father?

Skye- you know father, always workin.

Kat- work "ING", work "ING. Not "workin". say it correctly Skye, you sound like one of those space pirates father is always telling us about in his stories.

Skye- yeah, i know. wouldn't it be fun. to be free all the time. go wherever you wanted to. lookin for loot and treasure.

Kat (Sighing)- Look"ING"!

Skye- look. looking. looked. whatever, the point is, just think of the adventure.

Mother- just think of the punishment you'd receive from your father if you ever became a pirate. pirate in deed.

Skye- ah mother, you do know how to ruin a kids dream.

(Their mother smiles at them.)

Mother- I'm not here to ruin your dreams, just the nightmares.

(Suddenly a figure from behind the tree steps out.Kat and Skye run over to their mother.the figure is thin, with black hair, and beard. not a young man but not old either. probably in his mid to late 30's. the figure slowly walks over to the family. he reaches into a sport coat pocket and pulls out an envelope and hands it to Kat and Sykes mother. confusion stricken her face as she opens and reads the letter. tears begin to rolls down her cheeks as she begins screaming. Kat holds her mother trying to comfort her. Skye picks up the letter that has fallen from his mothers hand. he begins reading and suddenly becomes enraged and chases after the the thin figure which had already gone. Kat still holding her crying screaming mother, yells for Skye to come back, but he never does. Oreo finally stands up but instantly everything fades to black. nothingness. Oreo stops and looks around. in all directions nothing. empty. black. until he turns back and comes face to face with shinyfrye.

Oreo- shiny? is it really you?

(Shiny extends her hand out toward oreo. Oreo reaches out to grab it but i quickly meet with a fierce slap the face.)

Shiny- you gorram half breed, you left me!

(Looks back up at shiny)

Oreo- I'm sorry, i jus....

(Shiny pulls a pistol out and points it at Oreo.)

Oreo- shiny, what are you doing?

shiny- you left me, you filthy half breed.

Oreo- shiny, now think about what it is you're doing.

Shiny- did you ever stop to think about me? all those times you hurt me. DID A THOUGHT ABOUT ME EVER ENTER THAT TWISTED BRAIN OF YOURS?

Oreo-No shiny! Wait...waaaaaaaaaait!

(shiny pulls the trigger and suddenly everything shatters like a rock being thrown through a plate glass window. Oreo opens his eyes to find himself back in the middle of the jungle still in the cage bleeding.)

Oreo(exhaling and inhaling slowly)- A...stupid...ruttin...nightmare

Shiny can see the Sky getting brighter.

Shiny, "is it morning already?"
She looks at Michael

Michael looking up at the sky, "Yes I suppose it is."

Shiny slows down her pace fatigue starting to settle in. She rubs her burning eyes, And Yawns.

She thinks she hears something.

Shiny in a loud whisper,"Mike you hear that?!"

Michael turns around startled at the fact Shinys calling him Mike more than the panic in her voice.

Shiny looking up, " I think I saw something swinging from the tree's, But It's not there now."

Shiny not sure if what she saw was real or if her tired eyes are playing tricks on her. Picks up her pace.

"Well, Mike you seem to have a promising future ahead of you here at the Academy. You do prefer Mike right?"

Mikhail Orlovsky Semyonov, dressed in a smart, dark blue suit snapped his head in a curt agreement.

"Yes sir. My friends and family all call me Mike. Not so Earth-that-was sounding. And I hope only to serve the Alliance as best I can with my talents. What subject am I to begin with, sir?"

The older gentleman smiled, but not in a friendly way. The smile suggested something hidden, untold. He gestured to the building ahead of them and removed a proximity authorization card.

"Right this way. Inside, Mike, you will learn new and exciting things faster than you can imagine."

Shiny steps aside as she looks down."yea it is and look theirs another one."
Shiny points.

Michael walks towards the other one as Shiny calls out to the Captain. Shiny go's and stands next to Michael waiting for the Captain and 02 to join them.

Shiny, "Michael I didn't mean to offend you, I called you Mike without thinking, I guess I consider you a friend that's all. I will try to not call you that again. BUT if I do I mean no harm by it."

at that moment the Capt and 02 join them.

"Captain looking at the bootprint,"IS their a trail we can follow?

Shiny looks around and see's some branches pushed back, in a way that someone brushed past them.

Shiny, "I think this way"
shiny starts walking and the crew follows.

Shiny,"captain I'm not great at tracking but I'll do my best."

Michael,"looks like you don't have to be".
Michael looks at the Captain, Theirs more bootprints heading in this direction."

Captain,"It seems whoever this person is want us to find him."

Shiny, "you think it will lead us to Oreo?"

Captain, "well, we're gonna find out."

The crew follows the bootprints. Shiny stays back
a little. feeling hurt by Michael. But not showing it. She keeps a small smile on her face, but anyone who knows shiny would know its forced.

Michael notices that Shiny is behind everyone, and turns and strides around behind her.

"Shiny lass, Oi ain' gonna let that narsty Alloiance brute sneak up on ye again, ifn Oi can help it. Lookit, Oi don' know why bein' colled Mike gets to me so. It's loik sommat walked over moi grave. But Oi ain' mad. You seen whot I do to folk what make me mad, eh?"

Mikhail was back in the chair. Three men in suits stood over him, backlit by bright light. The slim one spoke in a crisp lilt.
"Mike, Mikhail. You cannot keep getting so mad about the little things. And you certainly cannot keep breaking your fellow students just because your mad. So here you are again. For a bit of program adjustment. Call it version 2. Should give us a great deal more control over your *ahem* carnal vehemence. Just sit back, this will only hurt for a moment.

Michael shakes his head and turns to Shiny as they are still walking.
"Did Oi fall asleep?"
Shiny didn't answer. She was staring at something in dumbfound silence. Terror, relief, and anger flashed across her face in rapid succession. As Michael turned to see O2 and the Captain kneeling beside a metal cage with Oreo in it, Shiny made a sudden movement that brought her forward and Michael reeled to see she had pulled her gun.

Oreo- shiny, what are you doing?

shiny- you left me, you filthy half breed.

A cruel laugh from somewhere in the trees broke through the awkward silence. Jaykins sneer seemed to come from everywhere at once.

"I was just about to knock you all out and deal with you one at a time. But I have to see how this turns out. So finish your unrequited vengence little lady. But don't you four try to run. There are electro-static incapacitators all around you. Just let me enjoy your little drama before I kill you."

O2, Shadow, and Michael had been scanning the forest canopy, trying to locate the source of the mocking voice. But Oreo and Shiny's eyes were locked in some silent discussion, or battle.

Then there was a terrible, explosive bang and all hell broke loose.

Shiny stares into Oreo's eyes.
Oreo's eyes keep darting back and forth from shinys eyes, to her shaking hand that's holding the gun.

Shiny's head tilts a little hearing a familiar voice taunting her.... shiny whispers "Jaykins"

At that moment a huge explosion erupts
Shiny ducks a little looks at the trees and shoots in the direction of the voice.

Shiny stands frozen unaware of all the chaos around her,
tears are streaming down her face.

She faintly hears her name being called.

Shiny doesn't respond or move.
She's in shock, at what she almost did.

(Even with the chaos unfolding around the crew, oreo manages to keep his glazed over eyes trained on shiny. Debris is flying everywhere. A faint ringing begins to sound in Oreo's ear. a death toll. The end was almost near. Oreo always knew he wasn't ever gonna be a happy ending. Just like on silas 5. Supposed to sacrifice himself to save the crew. Instead he was picked up by ruttin reavers. Beatin within inches of his life. and even still he had to be rescused. Now this. shoot, bleeding and bodyparts missing. The one person who captured his feelings is holding a gun towards him. No, no happy ending at all. It had to end sooner or later. Guess all the different ways to die had been explored. This way the last one. Simple. painful. Death. The nightmares comes real and you realized you ain't been much in the weak pathetic existance offered to you as a life. Robbin. Murderin. hidin. experiments. What kinda life is that. Ain't never done no good for anyone. A sudden realization came over oreo. this time, it was for real. The reaver syndrome, the half breed will finally be at rest and the verse will have one less alliance toy plaguing them. it over. the clock is winding down. Shadows close in and the lights fade to black. and the last image is of the girl who captured a heart of an alliance weapon, holding a gun towards it. i'm part of the verse now. forever.)

Shiny's still in shock, but the faint sound of her name brings her out of it.
She looks around her and realizes all the chaos, her heart starts beating fast,
she wipes her eyes and looks for Oreo.
She see's him laying on the ground of the cage, She runs over to him calling his name. "Oreo....Oreo!"
Shiny runs inside the open cage and drops to the ground beside Oreo. "Oreo can you hear me! Oreo!"
Shiny starts wiping his face with her hands. Panic stricken she Tries to get Oreo up but He's too heavy for her small frame.

Shiny, "Oreo, I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry".
shiny Starts crying.
She leans in real close
but she cant tell if he's breathing.

Shiny repeats over and over...
"I'm sorry, Please don't leave me".

She sits there with Oreos head in her lap she leans over him and kisses him,
her tears fall onto his face.
In a whisper she keeps repeating,
"Please, Don't leave me." .
She doesn't care about whats happening around her.

Shiny hears someone calling her again,
She looks up and she see's Michael.
He's standing at the opening of the cage,
looking at her and Oreo.
Michael runs over and looks at Oreo,
He kneels on the ground next to shiny and lays his head on Oreo's chest.

Michael, "I think he's gone."
Michael looks at Shiny,
Then puts his hand on her shoulder.

Michael, "I'm sorry."

Shiny looks down at Oreo and starts sobbing.

Michael," We need to go."

Shiny shakes her head no.

Michael, "Shiny Your going to get yourself killed."

Shiny, "I don't care anymore."

Michael looks at Shiny Knowing full well she means it.
He Quickly Picks her up
and Throws her over his shoulder and starts running for cover.

Shiny, Sobbing and upset starts yelling at him.
Michael doesn't pay attention.
Shiny starts yelling Oreo's Name over and Over.
She watching him as they get further away,
Still calling him.
And for a split second,
Shiny thought she saw him move.

Shiny in a panic starts yelling at Michael,
"He moved, Oreo Moved!

Once Michael feels he's at a safe distance for the moment,
He puts shiny down onto the ground,
He looks her in the eyes
and in a serious tone says...

"Shiny, Oreo is gone you need to accept it.
It will do You and US no good if you carry on like this.
We are in a serious situation and You need to compose yourself.
I know you don't care what happens to you at the moment, but you need to think of the rest of the crew."

Shiny looks at Michael, she knows he's right.

Still sobbing Shiny nods her head
She starts wiping her eyes trying her best to compose herself, and in a low, defeated voice she says.
"were is the Captain and Do we have a plan?"

SHADOW sees a very bright flash of light through the jungle trees. then, a second later, the sound of a huge explosion throws him backwards.

shrapnel rains down all around him, sounding like bullets hitting all the trees around him from some giant machine gun.

SHADOW wakes up on his back.
he opens his eyes.
he tries to stand up but he is stopped by a sharp pain in his chest.
he sees a piece of debris lodged in his chest.

he begins to pass out from blood loss.

he wakes up moments later to the sensation of being carried by 2 people.

again, he passes out.

he wakes up once more.

he's on his back, in a small boat on the ocean.
the sea is unusually calm.
SHADOW can see the sun, but it looks red and distorted.
he hears the voices of the 2 people that carried him off - faintly... indistinguishable.

again, the words of the 'earth that was' poem echo in his head:

Nor dim nor red, like God's own head,
The glorious Sun uprist:
Then all averred, I had killed the bird
That brought the fog and mist.
'Twas right, said they, such birds to slay,
That bring the fog and mist

Shiny and Michael crouched down behind some bushes peer over the top trying to assess the situation.

Shiny whispers, "I don't see the captain, Do you?"

Michael looking around whispers back, "No, But I think the explosion might have been the electro-static incapacitates something must of short circuited them".

Shiny whispering, "You think?, If that's true then we should make our way back to the ship."

Shiny and michael hear a voice calling out for Shiny, out of instinct michael and shiny duck back behind the bushes then slowly peer back over.

Michael being sarcastic, "Seems that your friend Jaykins is looking for you."

Shiny,"so It seems."

Shiny stands up and walks towards jaykins.
Jaykins now has his back turned and is looking down at Oreo's body.
Shiny is about ten feet away from jaykins. He doesn't turn around.

Jaykins," So you decided to come to me after all."

Shiny stops walking and looks at Oreo then back at Jaykins.
Jaykins turns around and see's shiny pointing a gun at him.

Jaykins, "Shiny would you really shoot me? Isn't one loss enough.

Shiny,"it's your fault, you did this to Oreo and now your gonna pay."

Jaykins, "No. I think you have it backwards shiny, It's your fault. It's you I wanted Not that thing. Jaykins pointing to Oreo.

Shiny stands there with the gun pointed, Jaykins starts walking slowly towards Shiny.

Shiny yells, "stop Or i'm gonna shoot you!"

Jaykins getting closer to shiny, "It's not in you shiny, Your to proper for that."
Jaykins starts picking up his pace almost reaching shiny.

Shiny shouts, "stop"
all of a sudden Jaykins stops looks at his chest then at shiny and drops to the ground.

Shiny stands stunned and looks at her gun.
then back at Jaykins.
Michael is standing over him.

Michael, "Shiny my be to proper, But I'm not."
Michael reaches down and pulls his knife from jaykins chest.

Jaykins in pain, lets out a yell.

Michael, we should go before any of his friends show up.

Shiny and michael head back into the forest. just before they enter, they both turn around and take one last look at Oreo then jaykins (who is yelling in pain) then they both enter the forest.

Shiny, "michael do you know the way back to the ship? Or are we the blind leading the blind.

Shiny smiles then lets out a much need laugh.

SHADOW wakes up again, on the floor of the boat.
he hears the 2 men talking.

man #1:
"HUNTER, what do you propose that we do with him?"

man#2:
"he must have been on this island for a while, he'll have info on a way to get off this rock...
or at least know where we can get help."

HUNTER goes back to navigating the boat, then turns back to his mate:
"KEEPER, watch the horizon, the savages in black were learning how to build a boat last time we saw them."

SHADOW mumbles:
"not savages... reavers."

HUNTER:
"what?"

SHADOW tries to get up but drops back down on his back.
he reaches out, but his arm falls back to his chest in weakness.
he feels for the chain with the cross pendant around his neck.
all he feels is a rope.

he passes back out.

And some in dreams assuréd were

Claire: According to the coordinates we got from the shuttle, there should be some survivors in a bunker after this next rise.

Lao: bout time.

El: Why are you in a hurry? those reavers stripped our ship. we need to find another ship to get off this rock.

Lao: All I meant was that we could have been here sooner if someone hadn't left the rock climbing gear on the shuttle.

Claire: Hey, it was a good workout.

El: yeah it --

(Suddenly the trio hears gun fire in the distance followed by an explosion.)

claire: What was that?!

Lao: Maybe the reavers found someone else.

El: Either way it's not our problem. We'll check out this bunker then we'll swing that way to see what happened. Ok, move out.

When you can't run you crawl. When you can't do that...well...you know the rest.

Mikhail stood over one of his instructors, a makeshift blade of broken steel in his hand. The instructor attempted to cry for help, but a foul-smelling foam erupted from his mouth instead.
"That, sir, would be your lung tissue dissolving from the toxic hydraulic fluid I put on the blade. You have approximately 90 seconds of life left. I hope you manage to absolve yourself in that time, before the devil take you."
Two more instructors arrived just after Mikhail climbed up into a ventilation shaft. The turned to one another.
"He's coming along quite nicely. It will be time to put him in the blue suit soon."
"Agreed. He will make a fine addition to the Hands of Blue."

Jaykins stopped screaming and started vomiting blood. It was a very short, very painful last 90 seconds of his life.

Michael turns to Shiny.
"Miss, you olroight? Larfing don' seem much loike yer usual response to two men you knew well springin' the mortal coil. But yes, Oi know the way back to the ship. An' then Oi think we..."

Michael fell like a stone, to the ground, laying flat on his back. For a few seconds he was still, but then he began flailing and crying out in pain. Before Shiny could kneel down next to him, he sat bolt upright and turned to Shiny with a greedy, leering expression.

"Well, hay thar sweeet thang. Ain't you just the picture of perfection. Mah name's Mikey, let me biy you a drank."

He extends a hand, Shiny (startled) attempts to take his hand and shake it, but he suddenly reaches past and pinches her on the butt. Reflexively, Shiny decks him with the butt of her pistol, and he sinks to the ground.

"Oh gods! What is going on?" Shiny is nearly in tears, realizing how vulnerable she is alone in the woods with a pschyco. "Where in fay-fay duh pee-yen is the Captain?"

Michael groans, and cracks one eye open and mutters:
"Shiny Lass, Oi 'ad the oddest dream whot you knocked me in moi 'eadbone with yur gun. An' now, moi 'ead really 'urts like it were true."
He struggles to his feet, with an arm out for support from Shiny, who quickly steps away from him.

"Mike...ael... Ah, you were being all weird and crazy again." she cocks her gun and points it at him. "Trust me, I'll only shoot you if you do something stupid or dangerous. Can you get us back to the ship or not?"

Michael stares, astonished at the gun and the hard look on Shiny's face. "Lass, you've 'ad a 'ard day, ain't ye? Aye, Oi trust you. Guess Oi'll lead an' you follow."

They slowly make it back to the airlock door of the ship.

Back at TQ, Michael becomes a frenzy of effort. Within a few moments, he has the working shuttle humming and ready for takeoff. He sticks his head out into the cargo bay and yells:

"Hey, Shiny Lass! Let's get goin'! It be you an' Oi 'gainst the world fulla folk what hate us, it seems. Oi figger the best way what we can foind the Cap'n is from the air. An so long as Oi don't hafta kill no one, Oi ought to manage to stay not-crazy."

Shiny is immobilized by her anger, fear, and mourning. She's not sure she can trust Michael, but doesn't really know what else to do.

Then O2 walks back on board.
"You guys could have waited for me back there. What's that crazy Irishman doing in our shuttle?" He runs up the stairs to the shuttle. "Hey, why don't you let me fly."

Shiny wanders up slowly to the hatch. "Guys, I'm going to stay here. Someone needs to look after the twins, and try to get TQ flying again."

At this sudden change of plans, Michael blanches and looks uncertainly between 02 and Shiny. "Oi don' know. Oi'd feel better if Shiny an' Oi went lookin' for the Cap'n..."

Shiny's voice goes from distant to hard and cold. "No, Michael. You're in no shape for flying, and I'm not leaving you here alone with the twins either." She unholsters her gun and hands it to 02. "Be safe. Find our captain. Come back before sunset."

02, though taken aback by her sudden command authority, takes the pistol and holsters it, and gives her a squeeze on the shoulder. "Before sunset."

As Shiny turns and walks away, Michael sinks into the shuttle passenger seat, abashed. The shuttle rises up and 02 begins a spiral search flightpath.

Shiny watches the shuttle lift off from the hatch that she just opened. She just needed a little fresh air. As she watches the shuttle disappear out of sight, She walks over to a crate and sits on it, lost in her thoughts.

Storm, "Shiny, I sense sadness."
Shiny startled looks next to her, "Storm I didn't know you were here?"

Storm, "I don't think you have noticed a lot lately."

Shiny not being in the mood snaps at him, "Storm I don't know what your talking about, And I don't think I want to."

Shiny jumps of the crate and pushes it hard against the wall. then turns and looks at storm and in an angry tone, " I just want to be left alone, Go find your sister.

Storm, "shiny don't let your hurt affect the ones around you, Things will turn around for you." You will be happy.

Shiny Yells, "HAPPY?!, What do you know about my happiness, Your just a child. PLEASE go find your sister!"

Storm looks at shiny, surprised at her anger turns and leaves.

Shiny stands on the ramp of the open hatch and looks up at the sky, She turns around walks up the ramp and hits the button and as hatch closes, Images of Oreo runs through her mind.

Shiny turn and walks to the galley grabs a drink from the fridge, she opens it and sits down. She stares long and hard wondering about Michael.
She takes sip thinking, "there more to him than meets the eye."

Been on the trail of this damn guy for months now. finally tracked him down to this back hole of a planet. also, did a buzz and picked up the scent, about 40 clicks from my land point. looks to another ship.
Classification; FireFly. Ha, gorramnit. the infamous Tranquility. i heard stories bout her and her crew. Gonna need to tread soft, don't know who else is down here. just need to pull a fast extraction and get the hell out.
another twenty or so minutes, i'll make my decent. gotta finish making sure this ol'rust heap'll make it down in one piece. saved for years to own my own piece of the black and wound up with this junker. but i gotta say, that sales man cheated me fair and square. Ha. Thats also why he's layin ten feet under, but alls fair in cheatin and stealin.
The approach beakon is sounding, better strap in. Currently my angle of trajectory is....not good. great my stablizers are jammed. gonna have to glide her in, which means i'm crashing. gonna make a lot of noise, folks gonna know i'm here. ain't got no choice. Turbulence. wind sheers, this is goin to be a hell of a ride. Need to expanded extenders. engage back thrusters...alright. its all skill from here. just need to avoid the trees. and the rocks. and mountains. the cliffs. any animal bigger then this ship, damn it!
Ok, there. i see it just over that tree line a clearing. i'm gonna need to come in low, if i'm lucking, i'll only lose my landing gears. bring her in on her belly . grounds coming up a might quick, cause worry bout that now. alright ol'boy, time it just right, pull back on the controls and ...
it's quiet now. lots of smoke. i seem to be okay, few bumps and bruises. i've had worse. my ship is done for though. gotta get outta here before i sufficate. the ground is soft with green lawn beneath my feet and the tree line that starts into the jungle is about hundred yards in front of me. i'll grab my gear, better be prepared for anything. I need to find this guy, he's my meal ticket to better life.
time to go and begin my hunt. i'll do a quick sweep first. see if i can spot anyone or anything. maybe that ship i buzzed earlier.

Shiny gets up with her drink in hand and walks to the cargo bay and opens the hatch looking up to the sky, looking for any sign of the shuttle.
She stands there and takes a sip, her eyes start scanning the forest around her, For once its quiet no eerie sounds.
She was hoping that would be a comfort but not. She was used to the sounds so the fact there is none worries her the more.

Shinys attention is focused on smoke rising above the tree's in the distance. She debates if she should go investigate it or not.
She starts walking down the hatch and stops once she hits the ground.
Shiny thinking..."what if its the Captain or Michael and 02, Shiny feels sick at the thought.

Then she hears Summer.

Summer,"Shiny, don't leave us alone. I'm scared.

Shiny turns and looks at summer and storm holding hands. Shiny knows she hasn't told them about Oreo yet,but senses they know.

Shiny takes a deep breath turns her head in the direction of the smoke for a few seconds thens turns back to the twin.

Shiny," I'm not going anywhere, come on you two back in the ship.

Shiny makes a shooing motions towards the twins.
They both walk back up the hatch once shinys inside she motions for storm to hit the button.
Shiny stands there looking at the smoke rising above thr forest for as long as she can, until the hatch closes.

Shiny runs to the bridge and try to com
The shuttle. "Michael? 02? can you hear me?

Shiny sits in 02s seat waiting for a reply, its only a few hours until sunset.

"The devil's dirty intestine's! Did ye see thot otter ship, O2? Oi got a bad feelin' about oll these ships that suddenly shown up on Miranda. Oi think it's gettin' owfully crowded down 'ere."

O2:
"You're not suggesting we leave the captain behind are you? Because I'm really not up for putting down a pathetic attempt at mutiny, got me?"

MICHAEL (staring out the windows)
"Oi got no intention o' mutiny-in'... mutinizin'? mutineerin'? or any such trouble. But Oi got a strong urge ta stay alive. Some'ow, Oi figgur ye do as well.

(he reaches down and hits the comm)

"'Ey, Shiny Lass. We jus' saw another ship crash nearby. Too crowded by far, Oi'd say. Oi bet the Cap'n will be as 'appy as the rest of us to git off'n this ruttin' planet. 'Ow's repairs on yon Firefly goin'?"

The thicket of this jungle is great. Makes it hard to move about. but, i need this payday. ain't gonna be doin this the rest of my life.

Got my repeater ready. Move slowly. night be just some dumb animal or something. It has to be. i see a cage...and theres something...someone? it's a ruttin person.

(Kneels down next to the person)

This guy is dead. Wonder what killed him. He's a big guy too. Fingers gone. Possibly his trigger finger and he's been shot in the chest. poor sap.

(stands up)

Looks like i'm going to have to be on my toes round here. I'm starting to get the sense that things ain't to friendly round these part.

shinys startled when Michaels com comes across.
She had fallen asleep in 02's seat waiting for their com.

She sits up and coms back," I saw smoke raising above the tree in the distance, Glad to know u and 02 are ok. Um.... About the engine, Yeah I'll get on it."

Shiny ends com, with all that has happened she forgot about the engine. Shiny stands up, stretches and yawns.

on her way back to the engine room she passes
Oreos bunk she slows down and looks at the door, She sighs then keeps moving.

once she enters the engine room she walks to her shelf and grabs some tools.

She opens the engine and gets to work.

Shinys bent over the engine working when she hears
storm.

Storm, "Shiny there was a strange man in the cargo bay."

Shiny straightens up, "what do you mean? Is he there now?!"

Shiny puts down her tools and grabs her gun from the back of her pants.

Storm, "He left, I think he was looking for Oreo."

Shiny confussed," Oreo?"
Shiny starts feeling uncomfortable and the twins
sense it.

Shiny walks to the cargo bay and the twins follow.

Shiny,"who opened the cargo bay door?"

Shiny walks over and hits the button.

Shiny, You both stay inside the ship, and don't open the hatch!"

Shiny turns to walks away when summer says...
"Oreo's gone, he's dead isn't he?"

Shiny puts her head down and quietly say's "yes,yes he is." She walks back to the
engine room, the twins don't follow.

Shiny grabs her wrench and go's back to work.
She cant help but think who this strange guy is and what he's doing on Miranda.

Before Shiny makes her way to the Stranger she coms Michael and tells him of the situation.

She slowly makes her way to the cargo bay the twins are following her despite the fact Shiny
keeps telling them to go hide.

She enters the cargo bay and points to an area.
Summer and Storm hide behide the crates.

Shiny hits the button then holds her gun straite
out her eyes fixed, waiting for one wrong move and she'll shoot.

AS the hatch drops open she see's a guy standing
With his arms up in the air.

Shiny, "Don't move a muscle or i'll shoot."

The Guy can clearly see Shiny is not Joking.

Shiny, "you better start talking, And tell me why
you were in my ship, And why your hanging around like some stray dog."

The guy starts to take a step and shiny shoots
the ground just missing his foot.

Shiny yells, "start talking!"

SHADOW wakes up again on the boat, this time his wounds have been patched.

he hears the sound of a shuttle flying over head.

SHADOW gets up, winces with pain, and staggers to see the shuttle in the distance.

he sees the 2 men on the bridge of the ship, both looking forward as they sail.

SHADOW looks around, and finally finds a flare gun in a sea chest.

he takes it out and fires it into the air.

HUNTER:
"what the...."

SHADOW sinks back down to the floor.

*thinks*

i hope the shuttle was not too far away to see the flare.

then he thinks he sees a glint of light reflecting off the shuttle as it turns around:
