Summer Glau on Angel

I'm rewatching all of Angel(introducing my kids to my favourite shows) and I noticed Summer in an episode in season 3(she was a ballerina of all things..). I hadn't realised she had a connection to Joss prior to Firefly. I've never seen it mentioned here before, anyone else pickup on this?

Playing ballerina is not so surprising since that was her life before an injury changed her career to acting. As for not being mentioned here, not so. It is just hard to find anything here that is more than a couple of days old.

Oh, cool... Hm, I knew she had been a dancer prior to acting, but I didn't realize it was an injury that prompted the change. It seems like she's had some moderate success (if it weren't for the fact that her shows keep getting canceled before their time...).

Yeah... Several of the Firefly crew are Whedon repeats. Nathan in Season 7 of Buffy, Adam in Season 5 of Angel, and Gina in Season 4 of Angel. There are several other actors who crossed over into various episodes from the shows as well.

I think Carlos Jacott (Dobson) was one of only a couple to pull of a (then) Whendon trifecta, appearing in Buffy, Angel and Firefly. Jonathan Woodward (Tracey) , I think, is the only other to appear in all 3.

Yes! It was a great Agel episode as well, kinda creepy!
I have noticed Summer in other shows as well, CSI just to name one.

I9 think the dancing was part of her audition for TSCC, she deffinantly did dance in the show, multiple times. Who thought that a Terminator could be that gracefull, hummmmm.

The episode of Angel was a creepy one where an obsessive dance company director had the whole cast under a curse.
Angel had seen them perform in the 1800's, when the company came to LA, Angel, Wesly, Gun and Fred all went to see them.
Angel freaked when he realised it was the same company that had been performing the same show for the last 100 or more years.
They waxed the bad guys ass's and released all of them from the curse.

I don´t think so.. Josh Friedman had wanted to work with Summer for a long time and that´s why he wanted her.. Pretty sure she didn´t do any dancing in the audition, but she is dancing in one of the episodes as you mentioned.

As for Angel, that was her first job as an actress except for perhaps commercials. It´s probably my favorite Angel episode as well, I read somewhere that after her one scene of dialogue she got a standing ovation from cast and crew. Which I believe cause it´s a great scene.

I felt(still do)so sad for her characther, that she got caught in this curse and then just disappear into notthing ness, I would have prefered she had could be not only released from the curse, but also take another chance of life, perhaps as a helper of Angel and Co.

Glad you mentioned Angel because it's her very first role and since that Joss Whedon has been very supportive to Summer Glau; she always says in interviews that Joss is like a guru to her and often ask him for advice.

Look at that video from 2011 Calgary Comic Expo panel:
at 1:50, Summer explains her audition for the ballerina role in Angel. She's very funny and not ashamed at all to say how awkward she was.

Edit : sorry about "Josh" Whedon; i always confuse Joss Whedon first name with Josh Friedman (TSCC)
