Well its time for finals, term papers, thesis proposals and job hunting. So instead I made a firefly vid!

'Tash was nice enough to host it at
http://www.strangefinger.com/johnny-firefly.mpg

It was rather quickly thrown together and is fairly depressing so you have been warned.

DISCLAIMER: Any tying in of the song/theme/vid to current day events is not really coincidental but unintended. I merely wanted to make a vid from a civil war song and this was the best one I found. So please no flaming me for a non existant modern day political stance.

And once again thanks to Tash for hosting.

All I can say is...wow.

That song always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and with those scenes most definately.

Very nice work.

Very nicely done, TragicStory. I hope to see more Firefly vids from you. I am assuming this is your first one? Or are the others?

Can I ask who does that version of the song? I'd be interesting in hearing the whole thing.

And a thank you to 'Tash for hosting this so we can all enjoy it.

That song is always timely in some way or another, I am sure no political statement was meant.

May I ask where you found that song/who performed it? It's a little different from the usual interpretation, and I would like to find a copy of the music to enjoy.

Thanks for a good vid!

All I can say is wow! This is definitely a great vid. One of the best and that is saying alot because there are a lot of good Firefy vids out there.

Simply amazing. Jos should hire you for something because you definitely have a goo sense of what you are doing.

Make another one.

LOL! You win the prize. When I first put that in there, there was a much harsher fade to black and Primere's preview screen was so small that I didn't really notice it. After I compiled it I did.

The "artsy" BS answer is: I inteneded it that way, they are natural snow flurries symbolically representing his soul assending to heaven now that he is home!

Nice catch!

I can't get this link to work, or even access any of Strangefinger's other videos.

Am I missing something?

Can't seem to see the vid myself so if anyone else is hosting it, please point the way, after those rave reviews can't wait to get a ogle...

course now i'm right sheepish about asking what i was gonna ask y'all before find this here thread.

Just finished my first firefly fanvid ( second fanvid ever, first was a stargate one ) and wanted to know if

A) anyone would be willing to host the thing

B) more importantly, anyone know a way to shrink the file size a bit? using divx codec i can pack the thing down to 67 megs at 720*480 size. dropping down to 360*240 only slims it down to 54meg. I know there's a way to get this smaller without (overly) sacrificing quality but gorram'd if i can find it.

Anyway, thanks for any potential help you all might have to offer and I still want a gander at this her Vid

TragicStory,
I am dying to see this vid now (after all the great reviews). I haven't seen very many Firefly vids that I really like....so, please someone else host it, for me?

Hey Tash, I was really sad to hear about your site, I visit every now and again to check out new stuff, good luck with gettin' it going again.

Oh, and GORAMSHINY, I look forward to being able to see yours, I hope someone can host it for you.

Well i managed to squeeze my vid down to a 7+mb wmv file and even found a host... of sorts. ( love my mac ) on the free trial .mac account i got with my shiny new G5.

Only problem is, everytime i upload the file to the account it get's binhex'ed and nothing i do seems to stop it.

Driving me nuts.

Other then that... no luck finding a host and i'm still waiting to hear on the other vid. Really want to see that one.

OK it took some searching, but for those still wanting to know who did the music on the vid..
It is Johnny Horton.

Be well :)

I've searched Johnny Horton's catalog and I can't find it. If you think you've sourced it, can you provide a link?

If we're talking about the same "Johnny Horton", he died in 1960. This sounds like a much more recent recording with higher production values.

Is Tragic Story still active here? Can he provide us with the information on this music? I find it to be particularly well done, and like others I would like to acquire it.

Kudos on the video work as well.

I found a few references, I went back and did a search ( I had not bookmarked the orig site I found ) but it is at http://i2fs.iespanana.es/hindi-rr.html
it is # 22 which links to http://iespana.es/i2fs1/johnnyComesMarchingHome.rm

I was looking to buy the cd of Horton but like you I could not find info on Horton doing it, but I have found an MP3 file from, bearshare that says Steve Vaus.. I am still trying to find a CD of Steve Vaus.. reviews of his music says his Johnny Comes Marching Home is a new vision and departure from the OLD march and makes people aware not everyone comes home alive. It is Looking like Steve Vaus is pulling into the lead as the source song.

I think you're correct. I've located a song of Vaus' called "Tea Party", and comparing the vocals on that to those on TragicStory's video, I think they're a match.

I've taken steps to procure the actual recording of "Johnny Comes Marching Home" that Vaus did. As soon as I have it, I'll let you know if it's him. Assuming TragicStory doesn't pop back in and confirm it for us first.

TragicStory -- are you out there?

I have received the recording of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" by Steve Vaus. It is indeed his recording that's used in the video by TragicStory.

For anyone who's interested, it's available here:

http://www.americanvision.org/proddetail.asp?prod=CDA-SVTP

The CD it's taken from is called "Timepiece".

Whew... I am glad itr was found and credit can now go to the artist that did it. It is such a good rendition that it should get the acknowledgment it deserves...
That was getting to be a bit like work to find that.. My computer crashed 5 times and lightning took out the power transformer on the pole and wiped out the modem as well .. made it tough trying to find it..
Thanks for the feed back on the album it was on .. After I got the name and was getting close is when it all died.
