ni hao browncoats!

i can't believe we are still flying,
but here we are.

i should recap our situation.

the crew of TRANQUILITY has crash landed on an island on MIRANDA, on the opposite side of the planet from the main miranda city.

the island is called ONYX, and was part of the PAXILLON HYDROCLORATE experiment.
the ALLIANCE had a monitoring station on ONYX to record the results of the experiment on the wildlife and plants.

they also had a secret project using a combination of sound and navigational jamming technology, to bring down ships in orbit -
supposedly as a defensive technique.

this weapon was housed in a structure called THE BLACK LIGHTHOUSE, on a peninsula on the eastern shore of ONYX.

the crew of TRANQUILITY is currently trying to rebuild her, using parts cannibalized from other crashed ships.

two other pilots of downed ship have been discovered during this time:
TERRY [reaverreaper]
WASH [pilotwash]

Shiny tired of waiting for Terry, "can we go now?!"

Terry wrapping an old shirt that he took from his napsack around his leg. "If you hadn't shot me, we would be on our way by now."

Shiny pacing back and forth, "If u kept your mouth shut and your eyes to yourself, You wouldn't be hobbling around now would ya?"

Terry picks up his napsack throws it onto his shoulder
and starts gimping in a different direction from where shiny was going.

Shiny picks her napsack of the ground forgetting
About how heavy it is slowly lifts it onto her shoulder.
She watches terry and starts to laugh.

Terry without looking back at Shiny mutters
"The girls insane!"

Shiny hearing terry walks up next to him,
"if you only new."

Terry tries to walk faster, Shiny slows down her pace Letting terry gimp ahead.

..........Hours later......

Shiny still following Terry hears the the faint sound of sticks breaking, then she hears voices.
She loudly whispers, "Terry"

Terry turns to look at Shiny.
Shiny is motioning for Terry to get behind the over grown bush With her.

Terry goes to say something but Shiny puts her
finger up to her lips.

Terry crouches next to Shiny an d whispers,
" what do you hear?"

Shiny," sounds like some guys walking and talking
not sure how many."

Shiny pulls out her gun and makes a small part in the bush with one hand while the other hold the gun.

Shiny waits, The Four men come into to view. Shiny stands up, "Captain?!

Captain, "Shiny what in the sphincter in hell
are you doing behind that bush!"

The captain looks at Terry who's still crouched down. "and who is he?!

Captain staring at Terry.

Shiny, He crashed her on the planet, looking
for oreo.

Captain looking at Terrys leg,
"is that how your leg got hurt?

Shiny matter of fact, "no, I shot him."

Shiny walks over to Michael, "I'm really glad to see you, she then hesitates and whispers,"you are Michael right?"

Michael confused, "who else would I be?"

Shiny smiles, "with U, I never know."

Captain and Terry are talking

Shiny keeps glancing at the new guy.

She decides to walk over to him.

Wash see's Shiny approaching him and gets
a little nervous. She stands next to him

Shiny, Hi, I'm Shiny the mechanic on Tranquility
and you are?

Wash, I'm wash.... and I juggle geese.

Shiny starts laughing.

Captain, Ok now that we are all together lets get back to Tranquility and fix her up.

the group salvages many parts from the downed ship.
they bring the parts back to TRANQUILITY and begin the repairs.

SHADOW O2 and MICHAEL create a makeshift pulley to hoist the broken wing back in place,
while SHINY WASH and TERRY work on the electronics and propulsion systems.

O2:
"cap, i've been thinking. even if we get her flyin' again,
that black tower jamming device will just bring her down again before we can break atmo'.
the only way for TRANQUILITY to break free would be to have someone stay back here and hack the jamming system
at one of the terminals in the black lighthouse.
this definitely needs to be done from the 'inside'. i'm the only one with the knowledge to do this - but i'll need help.
the system is too complex for me to hack it - but not for KAT, with her technonet experience.

once she hacks it, i can reprogram the system to allow the ship to slip through.
the system will adjust to our hacking so we will need to work together simultaneously to keep ahead of it.
i don't see any other way."

*SHADOW thinks this strategy though.*

"just keep working on this wing, it's a clean break, we can fix this."

killed is fun.

Wash,"I could see that.

Shiny picks a welders mask put it on then picks up the welder.

Shiny to Terry and wash, "You think you can hold the wing straight so i can weld it?!

Terry Looking at the welder, "I don't like the Idea
of you holding that thing so close to me."

Shiny staring at Terry, snaps down the shield of the welding mask and fires it up.

Wash looks at Terry, "glad I'm not U."

Shiny walks up the Ladder and starts welding.

She then thinks of something and turns of the welder and opens the shield to her mask

Shadow and Shiny had become used to the distant, glazed look that Michael has had for the past few days. He was working steadily, doing what was asked of him, and giving occasional, brief answers. But the spark seemed gone. Shadow had seen it before, folks see too much and just snap. Just close down and disappear into themselves. Best thing for it was to keep 'em busy, and not push for answers. Shiny, however fretted about it. And cursed the gods that the Captain was the only fella around her that wasn't institutional in the head.

Poor Wash was sure Michael just didn't like him at all, since Michael apparently just looked right past him, oblivious to the refugees presence.

Then one day, Michael turned and looked Shiny right in the eyes (which he'd not been doing lately) and asked:

"ShinyLass, whot day ist? Oi feel loik Oi juss woked up from a terrible long nightmare. Ooh is that feller whot's wondering around TQ?" as he points to Terry.

"The Lord's hairless scrotum! There's two bloks aboard Oi've never laid ois on."

He pulls a throwing knife from thin air.

"Lass, ye wont Oi should keel 'em?"

Shiny spins around to see Terry with a shocked and Terrified look on his face staring back at Michael.

Shiny hesitates for a second then puts her hand up.
"Michael, No! it's ok he's gonna be with us for awhile. He crashed here in the jungle.

Michael slowly lowers the knife, then looks at Shiny. "what Jungle?"

Shiny, "You really don't remember?"

Terry interjects, "u ask me ?Somethings wrong with his brain pan."

Wash "sarcastically" replies,"Good observation Terry."

Shiny shoots Terry a dirty look.
Then focus's back on Michael.

Michael, we crashed here on Miranda, But we're
fixen to get outta here real soon.
Maybe in the morning.

Shiny looks at wash i just need to fix the engine
and the wing.

Wash, walks over and stands next to Shiny.
"shiny I hate to tell you,but i'm not sure
the wing can be fixed."

Shiny looks at wash, "we're getting off this ruttin planet."

Shiny turns her attention back to Michael,
Michael, you haven't been yourself lately
Do you wanna tell me whats going on?

Wash," maybe i should leave so you two talk."

Shiny, "No thats ok you can stay."

"Last Oi remember was flyin' wif O2 'round about, lookin' for Cap'n. We get 'em back?"

Michael looks at his hands for an answer, one's still holding a knife, which he tosses in the air, grabs with his other hand, and spirits it away somewhere on his person. In its place is his Portable Cortex Reader, which he starts pecking at.

"Engine says she's missin' four litres of 480 lubricant in the right admix resevoir. I saw sommat in this 'ere pile o' supplies."

He rummages, and looks up with a bottle in hand.

"Oi think all the recent bloody handiwork musta got to me. That an' this skin-creepin' jungle. Some o' that is comin' back, now you mention it lass."

"But Oi'm still not sure 'bout this Terry bloke." he walks over and pokes Terry in his wounded leg.
"That looks aboot like a wound caused by Miss Shiny's piece. Ye pissed her off? Guess ye leart yer lesson, then?"

He walks over to Wash and extends a free hand, tipping his bowler with the other.

"Michael O'Sneary, at yer service. No one but Shiny calls me Mike though, zhuyi?"

He walks up the catwalk stairs towards the engine room with the lubricant.

Shiny shrugs her shoulders.
"well, he may be odd, but that's the kind of odd we've come to expect from him."

Shiny put's her hand to her head, "right, you both need a bunch. Follow me."

Shiny leads the two men to their bunks.
she first brings wash to the bunk closes to the bridge.

Shiny to wash, "its not great, but it's clean.
The bridge is right through that open door, you should go and check it out."

Then shiny leads Terry to the bunk next to Oreo's.
Terry walks in and drops his napsack on the floor.

Terry looking around the small room, "not bad."

Shiny "Good."

Shiny turns to leave but then stops.
"Terry, We all (referring to the crew) have
been through a lot here on Miranda and well...
Try not to take things to personal. Ok?

Terry walks over to shiny, Clearly enjoying
A softer side of Shiny, A side he's never seen
before.

Terry smiling a big smile, Shiny?! Are you getting soft on me?

Shiny walks away, "get some sleep, will ya?
We have a lot of work to finish in the morn.
I want off this rutten planet."

Shiny leaves and head to the engine room.
She see's Michael pouring the lube into the engine
she stops and watches. She hasn't known Michael
a long time, but she knows him enough, to know somethings very wrong.

Michael doesn't seem to notice shiny watching him He's now focused on his cortex reader.

another night goes by with strange noises, like creatures crawling on the hull of the ship, and howling noises from the jungle.

the crew, not able to sleep, finishes most of the repairs to the engine and the other internal systems.

SHADOW walks up to MICHAEL:
"hey thanks for all your help.
i hope you'll be stayin' for a spell."

O2 walks up to SHADOW and pulls him aside:
"cap, i've been doing the math and i have some bad news. we lost a lot of fuel in the crash.
we don't have enough fuel to break atmo', we're too heavy for the upthrust we'll need."

KAT walks over to the men.

KAT:
"cap, O2 told me about his idea - of he and i staying back here on the planet to hack the system that's jamming everything -
to buy TRANQUILITY enough time to escape... i'm willing to do it."

SHADOW:
"it may not matter, O2 says we don't have enough fuel to break atmo'... unless...
*thinks*

SHADOW:
"O2, i wasn't going to leave you 2 here without a way off - the 1 working shuttle. can TRANQUILITY break atmo'
with 1 less shuttle and 2 less people.?"

O2:
"i'll re-do the math, but that's a maybe."

SHADOW:
"okay... KAT- you get everything you 2 will need to stay in that BLACK LIGHTHOUSE for a while.
i know there are already supplies in it.
if O2 says 'it's a go', then we do this 1st thing at daybreak."

KAT:
"will do cap."

O2 returns a few minutes later.

O2:
"it'll be real close cap. plus once you hit the black, you'll be running on empty.
you'll have to shoot the ship directly at a planet or space station and use your inertia to coast all the way there.
i hope your new pilot is up for that - won't be easy.

SHADOW looks at WASH:
"how good is YOUR math?"

SHADOW smiles at WASH's unique brand of humor, realizing that it means he can fly a firefly.

"ok, i know you are a good pilot. you got your ship this far. we have faith in you."

the sun breaks a few hours later and SHADOW 'coms the crew:

"listen up all. we'll be taking off as soon as O2 and KAT signal us from the BLACK LIGHTHOUSE that they are ready to begin our plan."

the crew say their sad good-byes to O2 and KAT.

SHADOW hands O2 a map, and some personal items, including the research data on OREOS DNA to KAT:

"you 2 are part of our family.
when you shut that device down so it can't take down any more ships - and you can escape MIRANDA, you call us, and we'll come running."

SHADOW helps O2 and KAT with their supplies, into
the working shuttle, and watches them lift off, heading toward the BLACK LIGHTHOUSE to begin the operation.

'coms the crew again:
"ok crew, we need to wrap up any unfinished business here. we'll be leaving shortly."

turns off the com.
says under his breath... "one way or another."

"we'll be out of fuel in a moment.
you'll need to point us to these coordinates and use our inertia to glide us all the way there... it's our only choice."

SHADOW continues to talk to WASH:

"ALLIANCE experimented on him and mixed his DNA with reaver DNA. it gave him heightened strength but made him very unstable...
wanted to shoot him myself a time or two.

"KAT is his sister, but i couldn't let that affect my decision to leave her with O2 on MIRANDA.
"there's a bigger picture here... other forces at work that you can't see, and those 2 are the best for the job that they have to do back there."

the readout on the control panel reads:

FUEL REMAINING: ... 03 ... 02 ... 01 ... EMPTY

"ok, now here's were it gets hairy. keep us pointed at those coordinates, dong ma?"

SHADOW heads back down from the bridge.
he sees TERRY carrying a body into the infirmary.

"what in the sphincter of hell are you doin'?"

With no Cortex signal at all in the blackest of black, Michael gets so frustrated and ancy that he heads down to the cargo bay to do some knife-throwing practice.

"Bloody silence in the black"

"...even got a signal back on that lively, green hell we escaped from back there..."

"what in the sphincter of hell are you doin'?" Captain's voice from behind him.

SPANG! a knife misses the target and hits metal wall.

Knives still in hand, Michael peers back towards the med bay to see what the Captain is yelling about. There is Terry, corpse over his shoulder.

"Cap'n, Oi offered Miss Shiny Lass to oiff this necrophiliac juss the other day. Offer still stands, if'n ya want..."

"Shiny jumps at the sound of the captain voice and rushes to the medlab. Outta breathe, shiny enters"

"before the captain and say anything, shiny notices oreo's body laying on the medlab bed."

Captain, i can explain all this.

Good, cause with the way i feel right now, a good tale wil postpone me shooting the both of you.

"Shiny takes a deep breathe and begins telling the captain about the deal that was made between her and terry."

Ok, wait a minute. You're trying to tell me that this guy "pointing at terry" gives you so story about another guy on some planet that can help bring Oreo back to life.

"Shyly shiny answers"

yeah...

Captain
and you believed him?

"Shiny drops her head, suddenly feeling foolish"

You didn't. that's the problem here. I know you miss Oreo. Hell i miss him too, but folk don't come back from the dead.

SHADOW waits for TERRY to take OREOS body to the cargo hold, and turns to MICHAEL:

"MICHAEL, if WASH keeps us on target we'll be hitting our 'bulls eye' soon.
should be able to 'com someone to help with the search for your brother from there also.

"we're still at the corner of 'no' and 'where', so communications are still a bit tetchy.
when we ran out of fuel we had to point the ship at any place that we could intersect paths with -
didn't have much of a choice so we land were we land, which, if our math is good and our pilot is true, should be a place called SKYPLEX."

SHADOW turns back to TERRY:
"fast would be better than slow."

Shiny follows Terry to the cargo bay.

Shiny upset," can't u walk faster?

Terry," I'm trying, he's not the lightest thing to carry."

Terry with attitude, "whats wrong with you?"

Shiny, " I didn't like they way you threw me under the bus, back there with the Captain?"

Terry, Threw you under the bus?! I was telling your Captain the truth."

they enter the cargo bay, Shiny bends down and Moves the metal grate flooring aside and looks at Terry.

Shiny," I don't know what to believe and I'm still trying to figure out why i should trust you even a little.

Shiny impatiently. Well?! and motions for terry to put oreo in the compartment under the metal grate floor.

Terry, " you want me to put him in there?

Shiny,"yes, I don't want a dead Oreo staring back at me. It's kinda creepy.

Terry try's to put Oreo down, but the weight of Oreo is to much and terry looses his grip. Oreo lands with a thud.

Shiny and Terry look at each other,

Shiny," at least he didn't feel it."

Shiny grabs a blanket the was covering some crates
and covers Oreo. She then moves the floor grates back.

Shiny stands up and turns around to see terry is gone. "typical" she mutters to herself.

then she notices Michael standing on the other side of the cargo bay watching her with a knife in hand.

Shiny walks over to Michael.

Michael tosses the knife in the air, catches it by the handle then throws it hitting the target smack dab in the middle.
Shiny being impressed starts to clap.

Michaels face starts to blush.

Shiny, " Michael, will you show me how to throw like you?"

"The two glare at each other. finally terry backs down and steps around him and returns to his bunk. Michael smirks and watches as terry disappears, and then turns his attention to the cargo hold."

"Michael enters the cargo hold and slowly circles the steel grate before kneeling down and finally opening the grate. Michael, rubs his forehead and perpares himself to jum into the cargo hold. but in an instant and arm reaches up, grabing him and pulls in him"

Oreo- Who...are...you?

(A slight fear glazes in michael eyes)

Michael- Names michael, i'm part of the crew now.

(Slowly and as quiet as possible, michael reaches down for a knife)

Michael- you were dead mate. it can't be possible for you to be alive.

(Suddenly a thought enters michaels head)

Michael- Terry, that bastard. he brought you back. all this time, he was the one who could do it. there was never any....

(Oreo's attention had drifted off slightly but snaps his focus back to michael.)

Oreo- I don't know what you're jawin about,but i am alive, now aren't I?

(Michael grins)

Michael- yeah you are. But not for long.

(With a quick burst michael grabs the knife and makes an attempt at trying to stab oreo, but is quickly brought to a halt. Oreo catches michaels hand and squeezes it until the knife drops.)

Oreo- Used to be part of the crew...

"Oreo curls his fist and reaches back and knocks him out cold. Michael body quickly goes limp. Oreo, pulls himself out of the compartment. He stretches and suddenly releases a bloody curddling growl. the captains eyes snaps open."

Captain- what the hell was that?

(Captain rushes to a com)

Terry hasn't been on the ship long enough to notice when Michael is having an 'episode' as Shiny and Shadow have started calling them. He has no idea how lucky he just was.

Mikhail leans over the hold...

"GAH! Let go of my forearm this instant you necromorphic hybrid carnivore! You know fully well that I didn't put you down here. I could barely lift your elephantine forearm, let alone your whole gruesome tenement."

Mikhail does some blindingly fast jujitsu move to free his arm and back flips out of the hold. Oreo, or his body, stiffly stands up; feet still in the cargo hold.

Mikhail grabs his head in agony, falls to the deck, and then struggles to get up. Mid-stand, he notices Oreo looking back at him, eyes red-tinged.

"Whot wif me goin' arse over apex onto the 'ard metal grating, not rememberin' comin' down 'ere at oll, an your dead self pullin' a Private Tracey, Oi'm inclin'd ta think Oi'm dreamin', dead, or ought to be wishin' Oi were."

Michael staggers over to the comm and hails the whole ship.

"Oll 'ands to the cargo 'old, if ya please! Oi think yer gonna find a mighty surprise down 'ere. An maybe someone can 'splain how Oi came to be down 'ere coz Oi surely don't."

Michael plunks down on a crate, and rubs his sore head.

"i'm looking for man who will be on train going to PARADISO. this man is prisoner who is being transferred to PARADISO jail.
you can take this man away from prisoner transfer detail and back here to me, yes?"

SHADOW:
"yes."

NISKA:
"you want to know name of this man?"

SHADOW:
"as a rule, no."

NISKA:
"ahh, yes! good. good.
then you will leave soon, and when you return, your ship will be repaired and you will have new shuttle to replace missing one."

SHADOW:
"see you then.

the men leave NISKAS office and walk back to TRANQUILITY. as they walk, SHADOW looks at the picture.

"i'm wishin' it was that easy.
i conjure it may be his brother.
NISKA didn't do a 'second take' at MICHAEL when we walked into his office,
so either he knows MICHAEL is not the man in the picture or he has bad eye sight.
in the info he gave me it says this man has been in custody for some time.
also they are transporting him by train, so we'll need tickets... or some other way to get on-board... and off-board."

the men get back to TRANQUILITY and everyone gathers in the galley to come up with a plan before they 'shove off' from skyplex.

"ok, here's how i see 1 option:
MICHAEL and i get on the train at HANCOCK, the stop before PARADISO.
when the train is moving, we distract the guards and signal the ship.
WASH flies TRANQUILITY above the train.
SHINYS helps lower OREO down to the roof of the train.
OREO sneaks down into the train and steals our 'mark'.
once the dust settles, we get off at PARADISO.
one hitch - we may have to let MICHAEL get 'captured' temporarily, to distract the guards.
they'll think he is the prisoner and take him.
once they do a retinal scan at PARADISO, they'll find out they have the wrong man and have to release him."

from there it will look like we're just 2 people looking for passage to PARADISO via HANCOCK.
when i give you the signal, you fly above the train so SHINY can lower OREO on to it, dong ma?

"SHINY, you lower OREO on to the train when WASH says it's safe... and try not to drop him.

"OREO, take a good look at this picture.

[hands the picture of the prisoner to OREO].

"when you get on the train, grab the prisoner, then reattach yourself to the cable.

but he will be stopped at the train station there.
the retinal scanner will identify him as someone else other than the prisoner.

Wash looks over at him.

Michael doesn't respond. He doesn't even blink.

Mikhail Semyonov, now a full agent of the Alliance, walks up the hill towards Hancock with his 'brothers', the two other agents in his team. The mission was straight-forward. Locate a particularly loud and convincing Independence activist, find a quiet place to stop his heart and silence his voice.
Mikhail tugged at the blue gloves of his blue hermetically-sealed undersuit. He'd not quite gotten used to it yet.
"Mike, you take out the target, we'll deal with the witnesses and any recording devices. We'll blame it on Reavers, so make the violence look *ahem* passionate." Mike just nodded curtly, as the three men in black suits walked into the town's main saloon. There sat the target, poor fool. Mike walked over and puts a gloved hand on the man's shoulder and speaks in his crisp, neutral tone:
"Three by three, we shall set you free."
Carnage ensued.

Wash leans over and taps Michael on the shoulder.
"Hey, you alright? You were saying as how you've been to Hancock before..."

The glare Michael turns on Wash makes him back off, a bit frightened. Then the look is gone, and Michael's usual sardonic smile is back.

"Sorry lad, bad memory. No, Oi've never been to Hancock. But Oi knew a scary feller that came here once, ages ago. How long till we land?"

Michael rummages through the mess in his bunk, tosses his usual bowler hat aside, and dons a long duster and a very wide brimmed hat.

Out in the cargo hold, he opens his weapons case and stores his usual weapons of choice. Instead he takes out two small, black bladed knives with wrapped handles. He locks and stashes the case again.

Terry, who's helping Shiny prep the winch, notices the odd weapons and waggles his eyebrows in question.

"These 'ere are obsidian stone blades, 'and chipped by a Red Man from Earth Tha' Was. Sharper than any steel, but irreplaceable ifn they break. So Oi only use 'em when carrying steel might draw unwanted attention, metal detectors and weapon sensors look these beauties over like they was me own bones."

The knives seemingly disappear somewhere into his coat or shirt.

Shiny looked over at Michael's explanation, and now is shaking her head as she returns to working out the winch cable.

"Michael, I'm really glad you're on our side, because your right scary with your bugged out eyes and magical knife tricks. You know that right?"

" 'Every day is a negotiation. Sometimes with a gun.' " Tha's whot they say out in tha black. Oi just found that a knoif never runs short o ammo."

Shadow walks in, also dressed for a walk under the sun, and punches the comm to the bridge.

"We're ready, when you put us groundside, Wash. Be sure to keep TQ flyin' whilst we're gone."

"MICHAEL, i'm going to hack the environmental controls to fool the trains computer into thinking that there's a gas leak."

SHADOW pulls out a small device from his browncoat.

"see if you can 'aquire' a train conductor uniform from storage - or a 'volunteer'. then we'll start the evacuation.
that should cause enough of a distraction to reduce the number of guards, as they file out of the train, therefore increasing our chances of success."

(Elbarto and the others are at the base of the black tower. El looks back at his group, still in the cover of the trees. They weren't able to rescue very many people at the bunker, only one man two women and 4 children. It had taken them 3 days to get here. El was finding out the hard way how much civilians slow you down.)

El: Looks pretty quiet. (hands the binoculars to Lao.)

Lao: The one woman said that before they were attacked they were picking up computer activity from this monitoring station. It looks empty now though. I don't see a ship.

El: they may have hidden it in the jungle. I would have.

(El pulls out a silenced .45 with his right hand and unsheathes a hunting knife with his left. Lao does the same.)

El: Claire, you stay back with the group Lao and I will breach.

(El and Lao breach the bunker with no complication. Inside, El gives hand signals for Lao to go right. El goes left. El goes up a couple levels, and down a couple of corridors.)

(El hears people talking and heads towards the voices. El turns the corner and raises his weapon.....only to see two very familiar faces.

El: Kat! O2!

Kat and O2: El!

El: What the hell is going on here?!

"sorry for the delay folks. looks like we have a gas leak somewhere onboard, so i have to ask everyone to disembark here temporarily."

the passengers all start to disembark.
slowly they become a crowd, standing outside the train in a desert.

he had help on the inside - corrupt guard I'm guessing.

the rest of the guards are trying to look for them in a casual way - without bringing attention to it.
This won't last long, they'll start interrogating us passengers soon.

(The captain turns his head in the direction of the voice.)

Captain- Shiny?

Shiny- try not talk captain. you took a bullet or three...again.I think i can get the fragments out.

(The Captain rolls in eyes in disbelief)

Captain- shes thinks...SHE THINKS.

(Oreo lowers the captain onto the gernery as shiny tosses a morphine shot to him.)

(Before oreo sticks the needle in the captain suddenly grabs his arm and gives shiny a look of sarcastic concern)

Captain- If i don't make it...I...I...

(The captain fades out from the effects of tye shot.Oreo tosses the needle aways and then grabs the captains hand and removes it from his arm)

Oreo- she'll take care of you and you know it.

(shiny flashes a tiny smile at oreo. Oreo, stone faced only stares at her.)

Oreo- if you need me, i'll be on the bridge with that chump pilot. com me.

(oreo leaves the room and shiny begins her work while muttering to herself)

You run from something. and as long as you stay on this ship, the thing you run from will never be far behind. Nilo." and then the old coot walked away. thought the guy to be crazy, but something inside of me believed him. i got off a the first avaiable port, high jacked a long range skiff and made my way to Nilo.

Shiny-So why did you leave? obvisouly, the alliance didn't know where you were.

Oreo-...revenge. i wanted blood. i wanted to hear the ones who turned me into the freak i am, scream.

(Shiny stares at oreo)

Shiny- Oreo...do you promise there is nothing but a reglar town, with regular people.

(oreo glares at shiny. shiny instantly draws her gun and aims it oreo)

Shiny- you promise! or i'll shoot you!

Shiny- Hey, not that i have anything to be sorry about...but,i'm sorry. We've been through alot. You. Me. this whole crew. you know that. and you know Niska gonna be comin down on us soon enough.

Oreo- We'll deal with Niska when the time comes. So enough, the captain will come up with something.

(Shiny tilts her head slightly and cracks a grin)

Shiny- so, whats Nilo like?

Oreo- It's probably the closet thing to paradise you can get that is alliance controlled. Trees, fields. The folks there are welcoming to strangers.

Shiny- You know we're low on supplies. actually, i'm hoping wash'll cut the trip down to about 2 days seein as thats about the extent of our food supplies.

(A realization suddenly hits Oreo)

Oreo- what ever happened to that weasel Terry?

(Shiny gives oreo a face of confusion)

Shiny- I don't know and who cares? But we are running short on hands around here. Maybe we can finds some new crew on Nilo.

Oreo- Doubt it. People there are pretty content with the way things are around.

(shiny and Oreo are standing in the walkway when a voice cuts through the chaos)

Voice- Whats going on! Hello!

(Shiny turns in the direction of the voice and begins running. only after a few feet she enters the infirmary to see the captain sitting up holding his side)

Shiny- captain? you're awake.

Captain- what in the hell is going on? why is the ships power off.

Shiny- Alliance. they're getting ready to board us.

Captain- Hu dahn. Ok, get everyone in the cargo hold, now!

(shiny bolts outta the room. rushing to find oreo and get to wash. the captain braces himself and slide off the gerney and onto the floor. after a few long minutes he emerges from the infirmary. walking with a slight limp from the pain and heads to the cargo hold.finally reaching the stairs, he decsends down, his eyes glancing over to the other set of stairs and seeing shiny and wash coming down as well.)

Captain- Where's Oreo?

Shiny- I don't know.

Captain- Well has anyone seen the gorram idiot!

Shiny- i was standing with him before i came into the infirmary. after i left to get wash, i wasn't there.

Wash- i haven't seen since he was on the bridge a few hours ago.

Captain- that damn reaver is going to do something stupid. i know it. okay, when the alliance boards, don't speak unles spoken to. dong ma?

Wash and Shiny- yep. got it.

(Suddenly a jolt rocks the ship)

CCaptain- i take it our guests have arrived.

(After a few moments, a loud thunk of alliance official knocking on the outter bay door. the captain motions for wash to open it. wash struggles a moment with the heavy door but gets it open. 4 alliance guards rush in, weapons trained on the two. The high brass alliance official steps, while motioning for wash to rejoin his crew.)

A.Brass- I am Lt. Jason Alexander Harvo. And i pretty sure you're wondering as to the nature of this visit?

Captain- The thought has entered my mind,yes.

Harvo- Well (lifts up a clipboard and flips a page), captain Shadow. This is nothing more then a routine inspection. Lucky You. We dont normal get this old firefly ship this far out in the black. and from what it seems like, you've had more then one run in with the alliance.

Captain- We have and we've been on the striaght and narrow since then.

Harvo- I'm sure you have.

Captain- So, is this your crew. seems a bit,small. I have a document listing at least 9 crew member. (the Lt begins reading names).

Harvo- well, isn't the hero of the hour. ruttin waste of alliance time and money that one was. so,tell me captain, my men won't find any of these people on this ship will they?

Captain- if they do, then they're real good at playin hide and seek cause i didn't know they were here.

Harvo- cute captain. but i'm not here to be entertained by some space trach independant.these people better not be on board.

(Hours go by and slowly the allinace soldiers return to the cargo hold)

A.guard 1- nothing sir. no ones on board but these three.

(in an instant the metal grate just ahead of the captain crashes down onto the floor of the cargo hold and oreo jumps down. The captain coms shiny to join them in the cargo hold.)

Shiny- on my way captain.

(moments later shiny appears, slightly surprised to see oreo standing there with the captain)

Shiny- Where were you?

Captain-In his favorite hiding place.

Shiny- the ventalation shaft. why do we always forget about that?

(the captain turns to face oreo)

Oreo- So, what was that about?

Captain- just the alliance pretending to absolute. So i hear we're heading to Nilo. why?

Oreo- its outta the way. alliance got no hold there. won't find any trouble there.

(Oreo just nods his head)

captain- shiny, hows tranquility runnin?

Shiny- grav boot gonna need be replaced soon. port thrusters are gonna need some work.

Captain- Just, try and keep things workin.

(Shiny walks off mumbling to herself)

Shiny- we need the parts and he just expects me to do patch work. when its come to engine's he doesn't know anything.

Captain- I HEARD THAT!

(Shiny shouts back)

(the captain smiles)

Captain- she's so cute when she's angry about engine parts (turns to oreo), isn't sh...aaaaand he's gone. I really wish he'd stop doing that.

(The captain pulls out his com again and coms wash)

Okay wash, lefts get tranquility going again and head to Nilo. I'll be up in a minute to brief you on what going on.

(Its been alittle over 3 days since the crew had there encounter with the alliance ship "Monger". Oreo, sits in the cargo bay cleaning his guns. Shiny is hard at work keeping tranquility running, the captain is on the bridge rubbing his head due to the annoying singing coming from wash)

Wash- I'm a pilot of a ship called tranquility
i don't know where im going
or where i'll be
but i don't really mind
flying blind
cause, i'm a pilot of a ship...
Uh-oh!

Captain- What? you can't think of a word that rhymes with "Ship"?

Wash- Ah, no, it's seems we've reached our destination. Nilo, dead ahead.

(the captain mutters to himself)

Captain- thank you.

(Wash pulls up a schematic of the terrian)

Wash- yes. yes. yes. yes

Captain- Yes? yes what?

Wash- that's nilo alright.

(the captain rolls his eyes)

Captain- I thought we knew that already Einstein?

Wash- yeah, but...

Captain- how long till we break atmo?

Wash- uuummmmm...e.t.a...20 mins.

Captain- Okay, locate that town Oreo was talking about and find us a nice shady spot about 10 miles on the outskirt.

(Wash immediatley buries his face into the schematic. the captain grabs the com.)

Okay folks, in about 20 mins time we'll be landing on nilo. so get ready.

(shiny stands up and stretches her back)

Shiny- Finally.

(In the cargo bay oreo, removes a cleaner from the barrel of his gun and places it into a wooden case. He eyes weapon and admires his detailing.)

Oreo-...Just in case.

on the bridge SHADOW finishes downloading a secret transmission to a small device, then put's it in the breast pocket of his brown coat.

he was an ALLIANCE officer who ran a type of concentration camp which conducted 'tests' on captured INDEPENDENT soldiers.
after the war, he was given the cushy job of running this bank here in paradise.
the catch here is that some of the families of the captured INDEPENDENT soldiers have contacts in the financial industry and have learned that the bank is holding volumes of captured documents which have untold value in the black market.
