Ok, so if this has not already been done, should we list sockpuppets? When providing input, please also include your personal definition of sockpuppet, and if multiple definitions, who or which apply to each definition.

So, who am I supposed to be? I've heard there are 4 or 5 answers.

Also, who is kingelbert? is it Chrisisall?

I'll try to compile a list as the relpies roll in.
First is a list of sockpuppets as proclaimed to be fake second users of another known user.

JewelStaiteFan /28350 = AuRaptor /3968 (Fremdfirma)

Kaneman = River6213 (Chrisisall)

Riverlove /30271 = ?

?? = Chrisisall /9161 (admitted by Chrisisall)

And here is a list of sockpuppets using the definition of kindred poster, somebody who posts so similar to what you would that there is little need for you to post additionally. I'll use tilda to mean "approximately equivalent to" here.

Peacekeeper, sock puppets are when someone who has ruined their own name, or chooses to make a point no sane person would agree with, or doesn't have the guts to state their point openly - creates a second username for the express purpose of shilling their opinions, supporting the statements of their real username, or continuing behavior that has ruined the reputation of the primary username.

JSF up there is just playing mind games, since that name is the caught, and outed username of user AURAPTOR.

And since Mikey is being coy, and I DO owe him some of his own smartassery, lemme point out that he damn well knows it too.

Hooo-kay, I'm thoroughly confused. Is JSF a sock puppet of Raptor? I read the link, but still don't get it...?

I guess I was "sock-puppeted" on the other forum. Someone claimed something about me, and a "new" member came in and said they'd known me for years and verified everything said.

I knew the new person was a fraud and proved it--it's the first time I'd ever run into such a thing. Weird that people do such things.

So who is a sock puppet of who here? Can anyone tell me, can anyone prove it? And HOW do you prove it? Just thoroughly confused...

Though at times I've thought I shared a brain, or at least a part-brain, with some posters here. But it was never funny, per se, just kinda cool and at times a little creepy. And ultimately the shared brains have proven to be not entire, and occasionally have plummeted to the realms of 'not at all,' I don't know that I've ever had someone say someone (or myself!) was a sock puppet just because our opinions were so similar. So is a sock puppet someone who is just similar, or is it truly one person posting as more than one person?

Oh, and the true sockpuppet isn't someone who posts similar to you -it's actually YOU posting AS someone else. That's the textbook definition, as I understand it.

F'rinstance, Bytemite and Fremdfirma share many similarities, but I've never had even an inkling of suspicion that they were one and the same. I just find them to be kindred souls. Likewise, Rue, Signy, and myself - and Niki, in a lot of ways - have very similar views on lots of issues, but we have some quite radically different views on other things. So none of us are sockpuppets of each other, just people with similar political leanings on most things.

I've often wondered if PN and O2B were the same person, but PN seems to have enough trouble with the voices inside his own head - I'm not sure he could keep it straight with trying to be someone else as well! And O2B and BDN seem eerily similar, but I doubt they're the same person.

I'm wondering if Chris's alter-ego (the one that he'll *admit to*, anyway) was Kaneman. And what the hell does it mean to be "tagged as offensive", anyway? I'm quite sure that I've been offensive before, but never been tagged, nor even warned. Maybe I need to step my game up!

Back when I was browsing through fanfic here way back when, I found my way to some old threads where people were tagged offensive, and WOW with the vitriol.

From the examples I saw, I think the requirement is you have to personally attack someone because of their race, gender, creed, or all three, and be so reprehensible about the attack that the entire community recoils and feels outrage. It also helps if someone starts crying, and a puppy gets kicked.

You can be out of line, but I think this is more akin to threatening to rape someone on, say, a thread about feminism. I mean, threatening rape in any situation would be unacceptable, but that post made in that particular thread is engineered for maximum explosive capacity.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that it hasn't happened recently, so you might be a couple years too late. :(

I'm pretty sure Chris would not be that mean. Whoever they were, whether sockpuppet or just a jerk, whoever it was seemed to have some kind of vendetta against me, and a few others here. Considerations I've made, an abbreviated list, not accusations, just things that have crossed my mind:

1. PK might be a sock puppet, I don't know of whom.
2. Kathy, you can't be a sockpuppet, because you have a known human attached.
3. Sig I have often pondered as a possible sockpuppet of Rue
4. Participant, it has crossed my mind, could be a sockpuppet of Pirate News. The other Pirates are perhaps family members.
5. Wulf could be a sockpuppet of someone clever. He always brings up the same issues, a normal person wouldn't do that, unless they were just doing it to test the audience. My main suspect would be Frem, sorry, you just have more than a logical amount of patience with Wulf. I have seen pics of both of you.
6. Whozit was initially too incompetent to be the sockpuppet of Mike
7. Riverdancer might by River6213 as well. So many people have been. The fact is that River, when not ousted, is an interesting and insightful commentor. Admit it, we were all fooled by Riverlove for a long time. Kaneman less so. I personally found the original River6213's contributions very thought provoking, and miss them.
8. YinYang could also be...
9. common behaviors, as well as times of disappearance are give aways as well as knowledge base. Everyone thinks to fake voice, post a pick, take different positions, but they tend to fit the same psychological profile.
10. Mike, Frem, Byte, Niki, Rue, PN, are lowest on my list of "not a sockpuppet" followed by probably not Hero, O2tB, Geezer, HK.

Some other people are "probably not" but the weird affectation thing is an easy mislead.

Just some thoughts I've had as I read these posts, but I know a good linguistic analysis could catch a lot of people.

Is it the name? If I had considered that the infamy of River6213 would follow anyone with 'River' in their name, I would have chosen something else. Truth be told, River is just the character I found most intriguing and relatable, and I always loved to dance. I never danced at a professional level, mind; the furthest I ever got was some low-grade high school productions. As I've gone further and further into my higher education, I've mostly watched. Wulf is too consistent and sensible to be a sock puppet candidate. Anybody not agreeing with the statements he makes would not be able to comprehend the subject matter he covers and expouses, so he cannot be represented by somebody of opposite bias.

It was Haken tagging folks as offensive, after streams of complaints. At around the same time those tags started popping up, DesktopHippie did some basic html in her own tagline to say she was 'tagged as awesome' and commanding all to bow before the awesome hippie. Later, she edited it to fit more with the format of the actual 'tags' so it read 'my IP address is dynamic and gorrammit so am I!' She doesn't post much anymore, but it probably still says that. I thought it was pretty funny, actually, hehe.

I was so expecting this response. So you do lurk? I wasn't sure if you were reading. A few comments:

1. I was actually studying dance until an unfortunate moment when I had to go see the college president to correct a transcript error, and happen to walk in on him, and the head of the dance dept., at what might be termed "A very unfortunate moment." Afterwards I was not invited to enroll in future dance classes, which were by invitation of the dept. head only.

2. It was a light casual nod, based really more on timing than name, when people appear and disappear. If I were more observant, I would have had a much better list. There are tons of characteristics, language, tone, timing, knowledge base, etc. that could be used. I suspect Frem would be best at ferreting out sockpuppets, Tho Pizmo, PN, Mike, Chris might have a list.

3. But that's why I like RiveR6213. River is my favorite character: For me, the show was about River and Simon, and their auxiliary interactions with Kaylee, Mal and Jayne, and the rest just becoming somewhat peripheral. It's interesting how the show is connected, like each character only relates to certain others, like Simon (River, Kaylee, Mal; There is no Simon-Inara or Simon-Wash relations, etc.) River(Simon, Kayle, and Book to a small degree, Jayne in a negative way, but again, a whole lot of no-links, like no real River-Zoe, etc.) Kaylee probably has the most personal connections to other characters.

I found one of the many things on this forum to be paradoxical, and RiveR6213 was so very much like River, and yet, some of the reactions she got... it's like how people talk about uniting against TPTB, and yet can be at it like cats and dogs against each other over trivial non-issues for like 200 posts.

BTW, no, I have no vested stake in the answer to the question, but someone had to post a sockpuppet list or things were never going to get interesting. Most ironic was that this was very much the response I would have expected for RiveR6213 ;)

A Sockpuppet is supposedly a second username created for the purpose of manipulation, to support your own position, to say things you ain't to proud of saying, etc. but it's applied to all secondary usernames. I'm having second thoughts. If someone needs to start a second username to avoid attacks, and this is unsuccessful, then it only leads us into further confusion. All the information you seek has already been stated in the thread, and if you dig through old threads you'll find some pretty disturbing stuff.

The "No blood spilled" list was just my observation of "here are combinations of people whom I have never seen fight." Some of these are people who are on the same side 100% of the time, which doesn't prove one if is a sockpuppet of the other.

The discussion of similarities was to give a base for who might be a sockpuppet. This has been most marvelously destructive.

Hey Dream, it's me. I'm not a sockpuppet for any other poster here, and Riverlove has no relation to any of the other Rivers who post. They're typically on the opposite side of my positions, and they have bashed me pretty good in the past. You & JSF have mentioned me a couple of times, and I'll admit I was sort of surprised at that, considering I hadn't posted anything since June. So anything else you'd like to know?

DT: I can assured you that I'm not Rue's sock puppet... altho I freely admit to spewing a bunch of cuss-words on the board in a misfired attempt to demo that ANYBODY can type cuss words, and that it doesn't clarify their argument one bit. Be that as it may... what's a tag-team?

Also, in the whole sock-puppetry thing, it seems to me that it would be best to have a bitter argument with your sock puppet to establish separate identities, n'est-ce pas?

To tell you the truth, I'm not that smart and for the life of me I can't keep that many people straight! So I have to just respond to each poster individually.
