I don't like the idea of criminals being written as protagonists.
Why, we can't have shows exploring the problems in the day-to-day lives of criminals to provide commentary on the human condition and struggles for survival! Greyscale morality just leads to evil, deviancy, and imitators! Won't someone think of the impressionable children?!
ALL SHOWS MUST BE ABOUT FLUFFY PINK BUNNY RABBITS SO THEY DON'T OFFEND MY IMPOSSIBLY JUDGMENTAL PIETY!
Seriously, WTF? Why is that even a votable option?

You got something against Anya?

Wow I didn't expect Mal to make #2 behind all those characters from more mainstream shows. Shiny.

Who in the what now?
No, I just chose something that seemed exaggeratedly inoffensive. The other options were ponies, or unicorns, or maybe bear plush-toys, but they'd all been done.
I take this to mean rabbits have been done as well.
It's not that I have a problem with intentionally inoffensive shows, like children's shows. I was just pointing out what an odd voting option that is to include about a list of criminal television characters. And it's also phrased an odd way: "I don't like criminals being written as protagonists."
I'll grant you that murder, and theft, and abuse and rape, those are bad things. But it's kind of loaded, think of the reverse question: "Do you like criminals who are written as protagonists?" The "do you like criminals" part is unqualified, fictional versus non-fictional is unspecified. "Who are written as protagonists" could then be taken to suggest that fictional and non-fictional criminals aren't protagonists, they're only written that way. Which is how I initially took it.
There's an implication here, a blanket statement, almost suggesting a perspective that in the theoretical real world, no criminal could have protagonist-like qualities, and that it's wrong to like any criminal written as a protagonist.

ecgordon was referencing a character from one of Joss' other shows.
I personally don't have a problem with bunnies, I think fuzzy bunnies are nice: http://www.netfunny.com/rhf/jokes/97/Mar/fuzzy.html but please don't blaspheme The Invisible Pink Unicorn (bbHhh).

Ah, see, I've seen Firefly, but I haven't seen Buffy or Angel.
Yeah, sorry about that, that particular poll option just seemed odd to me, and my joke was my attempt to comment on it, but I guess it fell flat.

Hi all - new here, but love FF.
I also noticed Mal in the poll today and placed my vote. He's still at #2 behind Dexter. We need more votes!

Still #2. Against all the other names on the list I'm glad the only one he's behind is Dexter.
