Yay for being back. I've spent the downtime enjoying my DVD copy of Leverage (although I prefer the longer version of the pilot episode) and trying to maximise the pocket-filling of my new FA bag (the one with the creepy purple eyes on it).

"Youuu caan't taaake the skyyy froom meeeee!"
I am hosting New Year's merriment and frivolity.
I am making gumbo (with andouille TYVM..), and possibly jambalaya. There will be champagne. Possibly a bonfire in the snow, possibly not, and almost certainly a hastily unrehearsed mumming play. Wacky fun!

New Year's eve...probably at the Shinto shrine in the morning helping out with the cooking and set up for midnight and later...
Then to my cousin's place for dinner and whatnot, back to the shrine by (hopefully) 11:45 pm so that I'm there for the hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year) blessing, and then to help out with the hatsumode.
Then later (once I go "off shift" and go home) sleep maybe, or internets to wish everyone Happy New Year. (Then on Saturday and Sunday I do the same thing at the shrine from about 7:30 or so...)
Plus there's the whole plan to try and prep for the New Year's at my apartment.

I got Doctroid a book for Christmas.
"Sense and Sensibility and Zombies"
The title and cover art alone were worth it. I'll ask him if it's a good read as well.
I broke down and started a blog tonight. It's probably going to be a bit like watching a horrible car crash from inside the car. Or I'll get bored and drop it within a month. oohpretty...

I'll like the latter part of it even more if Whimsy's awake, cos the only thing better than killing zombies, is killing them with friends.

Zombies.
Speaking of which, I'm making gumbo instead with a beans & greens veggie option since half the crowd are veg-heads.
Why am I reminded of zombies, you ask?
I just opened the big bag-o-chicken Doctroid bought for me.
Have you ever smelled fermenting poultry?
I have now.
I am taking a break from prep work to recover.
Ohmydearandfluffylord that was BAD!
Voodoo Zombie Gumbo! (apropos, no?)
Luckily I found a few frozen fillets in the chest freezer which I am thawing.
The andouille and shrimp are fine.

I have decided that I need some spin on the name of the gumbo.
"Voodoo Zombie Gumbo: Magic, and possibly hot enough to raise the dead."
It was this pretty pretty pinky/orange color with green and red floaty things! Quite amusing.
Then I added the file powder (bien sur!) and it went kind of greeny-beigey-grey. Sigh. Next time I will use okra to thicken. (If you do it right the whole textural okra issues are avoided.)
Hm... how to amuse the kitten.

I need to take photos of it because it is so tiny.
But first I need to get all my bookmarks and preferences squared away again. Firefox is good about importing things, except when they're on a different computer with a different OS.
Unless I'm missing something. If anyone knows how such a thing can be done...

Had a good day today!!
I delivered the rest of my True Blood books to my friend. Got her hooked!
We sat around and drank tea and discussed them like 2 old ladies and we decided if we kept doing that until we were 90 that was okay with us.
I also walked to and from her house in the Upstate NY snow. I figured if I couldn't make it to the gym because of said snow then I would use it to my advantage. Plus I got to wear my Jayne hat!
So yay me!

Still much mistrust from her, but she's agreed to continue...

I'm teaching a First Aid class on Thursday evening.
Unless two cancel, we need at least four or they won't run the class. (Silly Red Cross... wanting to recoup the expenditures and possibly turn a meager profit!)
My mom found my blog. I has a fan! (Get it out of your system: "GeekDorkNerd".)
(As opposed to NorDerkGeek which sounds like a piece of home exercise equipment.)
Have fun at Avatar. (Which was the point of this post) And YES it IS too much to ask that it stop snowing for two min. You know that!! Remember about seven years ago when it dropped 1-3 inches every day for about two months straight?
DON'T TEMPT FATE and NEVER CHALLENGE WORSE!!!

They have IMAX at MOST. Are they planning on showing it there?
Just a thought. Trying to decrease world hatification.

They don't show real movies there, just educational ones because of government funding. I'm like 75% sure its because of that.
But 100% sure they don't show real movies.

but hey, hey no hating me... ours is the same, usually. Cause ours is at a science center and during the day it's full of school kids they only show movies they consider "family friendly" which meant I couldn't go see watchmen in IMAX. They had been advertising it for months then with around a week to go they pulled it when they realized it was an 18rated film.
How they justify saying that Avatar and The Dark Knight are family friendly though I'm not sure. They're not exactly watchmen, but they're both still not quite kiddies movies either.
@MSA's Challenge, I submit the Jayne Hatmet

I win. If John disagrees he can issue a duel, I ain't above dueling a baby... He'll probably be bigger than me soon, gotta take whatever advantage I can get.

They lack all that blue pipe. Don't you know that nudity trumps everything when it comes to 'friendliness' in a movie?
I wanted to see Watchmen on imax, but it was only there for about two weeks. Since the closest imax theater is a good solid 90 minutes away and the movie itself was so long and would sell out so fast, there was never a chance to get there. Sad face. May or may not make the trek for Avatar, considering it's proven difficult to even get to the regular theater to see it. And now ice is coming out of the sky and I'm pretty sure the world is going to end.

On the bright side, I have CS4 Design premium for my mac now, so I may be able to ride out the ice-encased end of the world. I lub my new computerita. When the magic mouse arrives, my life may very well be complete.
I tried mead this week, in the spirit of (belated) pagan celebration. It's possibly the least icky fermented beverage I've had, though it reminded me greatly of honey-lemon cough syrup and I only find it close to pleasant when mixed with copious amounts of odwalla's orange-honey-passionfruit juice. Nice to know, if I'm ever desperate to get drunk (still a low priority) that I might now have two whole options that wouldn't disgust me. Maybe.
Waiting patiently for my fafsa application to finally process so the guvmint can give me monies and let me quit my soul-ripping job and find an internship suitable for experience and graduation requirements. Yay.
tvtropes.com is an evil and addicting place that makes me want to watch or re-watch more things than I can even remember.

(Passes a bottle of homemade mead to PR.)
It should not taste like lemon cough syrup unless that's what the maker was going for. My first mead was a sour cherry and ginger mead. It was light pink and lovely.
Find someone who makes their own, is good at it, and try again and again and again. I've got a friend who did an amazing gooseberry melomel (flavored meads). Then there was the blackcurrant. I've had just plain ol' mead which has been quite nice as well. I don't care what Gaiman said it does NOT taste like cat piss. Or it shouldn't. Not even if you're doing it the really really old fashioned way with chunks of wax and an occasional bee.

Beer in cornflakes? Yuck.
I'm still tired from yesterday and I have over 6 hours of sleep. Ugh.

If only... it would be grand. Beers with breakfast, PS3 marathons, shooting guns... I'd have to bring mini mick along for the ride though, cause he'd never forgive me if I didn't. Is there an upper age limit on adoptions? >_>
