Is it just me or do the rest of you try to envisage a particular Actor/Actress playing your Original Characters in the Firefly verse?

I see a few when I write.

Allan Bryant, I see Jeff Daniels. He's the right age and plays the guitar. Is see him much like his role in Gettysburg as Joshua Chamberlain.

Alisha (Zoe's baby sister) I see Dana Davis.

Reggie, Closest is Eric Stoltz (Red hair)but he's too old. Need someone in their late 20's

Oso is hard to place. Maybe Dwayne Johnson, but he's not quite tall enough and is too old.

Sheriff Buford, Sam Elliot

Frederica Cobb, Mira Sorvino

Mattie Cobb, Not sure yet.

Veronica Cobb, Anne Archer.

Anyone else have any ideas? Or maybe who they would cast as their own O/C's?

Let me see. My only OC is Mal's Ma. I can see her but I really haven't cast an actress for "Shadow, the Early Years".

She's in her mid to late 40's., dark blond with blue eyes of course, athletic build, rides and ropes with the best of the hands, yet can cook a mouth watering apple pie.

Suggestions are welcome.

Nice! I was wondering if there was a thread about this somewhere. We did a similar OC Casting Call on the Star Wars forums a few years back. Lord knows it's every Browncoat's pipe dream to see their fanfic hit the big screen.

My OCs? I would hand-pick David Marciano (of 'The Shield' and 'Due South', amongst other lawman roles) to be Ray Corsetto. Haven't thought much about young Robert Berakis, but I guess Chris Pine is really the only pro actor I could see in the role. Josiah Carabella from 'Guns' would probably be best off by a lesser-known fellow named Jim Bracchitta - mostly because he played David Marciano's arch-enemy in a couple of episodes of 'Due South'. For the next few stories? Dunno. Have to see how many OCs come into play, but oh, there will be an update.

ETA: NCBrowncoat, what about Candice Bergen? Or is she a little too far over the hill?

Yep, a little long in the tooth. Or maybe a young Blythe Danner, but not her daughter Gwenyth Paltrow. Blythe Danner as she was in The Great Santini (1979). Beautiful but held the family together and was tough as nails in her own way.

Good Choice!!!!

I had an idea for Reggie in my Fanfics. Jake Gyllenhaal with a red dye job.

Still need a better choice for Oso. There any Pro Wrestlers with a Hawaiian or Polynesian background? Need someone who would make Adam Baldwin look small.

Dalip Singh? The giant man from Get Smart and The Longest Yard. He makes everyone look small.

For fanfic I definitely think in terms of casting, helps me to think about an OC when I have some acting to watch and mull over in terms of characterization.

The Retribution Cast

Colter Irving: Sam Elliot

Zaira Sabah Serra: Linda Carter (a stretch in terms of looks but I think she would nail the character)

Hershel Reynolds: Tom Sellick

Ezra Reynolds: James Macavoy

Pacey Reynolds: Gregory Smith

Tasya: Sarah Wayne Callies

Rising Sun Crew

Captain Virgil East: Will Smith

Genevieve Wilhelm: Carrie Ann Moss

Roxy Crick: Kiera Knightly

Jovie Masumoto: Grace Park

Zebulon Pike Hamir: Naveen Andrews

Sterling: Not an actor, the cyborg was created with Treasure Island's Long John Silver in mind (Sterling is the cook and a weapon's specialist, a bear of a man missing an arm and eye, the softest one of the crew but the most dangerous possibly). I also took from Treasure Planet with his cyborg eye and arm.

Alot of characters lacking a face still, particularly Fiyero, River's sweetheart. Dunno who would fill those shoes....

Hey! I figured out who I want to be "cast" as Allan and Zoe's daughter in My Heritage series.

Leona Lewis. She's a bit older than 15 (23) but she looks like what I imagine Sara to look like.

Over at www.stillflying.net, we did a virtual cast for every episode (although I think we're a few eps behind).

We pulled mostly from guest starts in recent TV shows to keep the "feel" of the cast consistent, although we did indulge in periodic "stunt casting" (including Trip from ENTERPRISE as a sort of "dark Mal" character and Briscoe County's Lord Bowler as the leader of a paramilitary bounty hunter unit).

Recurring characters for Season Two include Tim DeKay as Bernabe (one of the leaders of Haven and an old friend of the crew), Chris Marquette as Ben Hicks(a hacker/thief who survives Haven and winds up on Serenity for a while), and Jessalyn Gilsig as Nico (a merc pilot who is initially an enemy but who "subs" on the crew when Wash and Zoe temporarily settle down). Alex Carter also appears a Chien, an Alliance soldier who serves as the Operative's "sidekick."

I cast my OC Lilah Linn in "Keeping On."

My choice was Stephanie Jacobsen, after I saw her play Jessie in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I had some doubts because the Summer Glau connection, but I kept going back to her again and again.

So, Stephanie Jacobsen plays Lilah Linn in the Keeping On 'Verse, and she's who I imagine when I'm writing.

Boy.. talk about resurrecting a thread.. almost a year?

Glad you did though since I really got into the "casting" idea with my New Blood/Guardians series.

I cast Laura Prepon as Maxine, Katie Leung as Xue Li Washburn, Anna Sophia Robb as Jessie Clarke, Hale Berry as Roberta (Bobbie) Williams, Lucy Clarkson as Mia Slater.

I still need to cast Xue's love interest Scott.

I really need to start reading Firefly fic again. I guess that's what happens when I start playing around in new fandoms.

I have ideas as to who I see playing Lilah's former squadron members (Hopper and Hammer), who we'll see later in the series (if I ever find the time to write it), but one I'm still shaky on.
