HAPPY BIRTHDAY AVERY'S MOM!! Italian places rock. Is it a local restaurant?
*orders a basket of wings* I have the hugest craving for hot wings with blue cheese dressing. anyone have a mild/medium wings recipe? (even though I'm too lazy to cook right now)

Hey, no impeding, that's not allowed. And tickling is definitely not allowed. There will be none of that.
and I now want pasta, but it's nearly 4am... stupid food talk.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Yes, its a local place, we have a ton of them around here. Italian and Chinese places are all over the place.
I got sea food marinara but with garlic butter sauce not the evil red stuff. It had lobster and shrimp and clams in it.
I also got a macaroon for dessert because I didn't want cake.
Then I had to come home and shower because my mom and dad got fish too and my clothes smelled all fishy and foody and gross...
But it was worth it.

About a week ago, something... horrible happened to me. I'm getting through it kinda, but my first instinct was to just lay in bed and never leave my house again. But that's not the answer, so I'm taking steps to move past it. One of which is actually talking about it, but those of you that know me know I'm not too big on that, so instead I chose to write this and let you imaginary people read it. I know it's bad and all over the place, but right now this is the best I can do. I know I'm not... whatever here anymore, but right now this feels familiar and safe. So yeah, here it is.
Flashing lights... It's hazy. I try to get up, it hurts. I'm walking away, someone yells to me from the distance "I'll call you later!". "Yeah, later!" I responded.
Someone shouts, footsteps almost as fast as the beating of my heart. I'm late, they're waiting... I'll take the shortcut.
I'm sitting on an ambulance, the paramedic is checking my injuries. How many were there? Three, maybe four... No, definitely four. It's dark, a voice calls out.
He sterilizes a cut. It stings, but that's nothing... Did you get a good look at them? No, not really. The voice isn't familiar, I ignore it. Louder now... and closer. What did it just say?
I can give you the basics, that's it. I don't wanna talk to the cop, I just wanna curl up... I feel dirty. I walk faster. Two of them jump out in front of me.
Could you pick tham out of a lineup? I dunno... Maybe? Didn't you hear me? The voice is right behind me now. I try to run, but one of them punches me. I fall.
Why were they attacking you? Why... I try to get up, but one of them kicks me. The others run towards me and join in. The blows hurt, but something else hurts much worse.
Yeah... why? They wanted money... The words leave my mouth before I know what I'm saying. The blows rain down, but their words cut me like a knife.
So it was a mugging? Yeah... They stop, I see flashing lights. One of them yells, let's get out of here! They run off.
We'll need you to come down and make a formal statement, but there's not much we can do. Yeah... My cousins run to me, "What happened?".
I was mugged... At least, that's what I told the police. But I know the truth, and so do they.
Six letters form a word, a word that makes me wince now, because see... I was the victim of a hate crime.

*HUGS Zero* Sadly, I'm with HK....words are failing me (and I've been trying since the day you posted
). I'm sorry that this happened to you.
I doubt that it's going to make anything better for you, but let me point out to you a couple of things:
1. You are not a "faggot" -- if that's the six-letter word. If you were, you'd be either a bundle of sticks used for starting a fire, or a sort of British meatball...which you're neither.
2. Please do what SR suggested that apply to you. Or if not, maybe talk to a legal-aid counselor to see what can be done legally (court or otherwise). Even if you don't take the options offered, at least you'll know what is available to you.
That being said...I'm with MsA on the offer to deal with these -phobic "small man issue" rejects of the human specie.
*HUGS*
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
...and on a different note (not trying to dismiss the issue, but feeling the need for some positive thought), I'd like to harken back to a video linked by the stealthy lass in the last thread. This is something posted LJ by the lady who goes by the user name of Betnoir (some of you may know her), and I felt the need to pass on the geekery.
Why can I see this sort of thing occurring at D*C?

Good luck!! I'll have to do that soon.
I need new headphones, but I need good kind that will stay on while on the treadmill and that won't cost enough to make me give up my first born.
Suggestions people?
I prefer ear buds. I like the ones I have (now torn) they were all rubbery so they were soft and stayed in my head.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
@roxy: good luck on the job hunting! I'm still hoping I can work my way around having to do that soon.
@avery:I'm not a big fan of earbuds, but when it comes to headphones I do like sennheiser ones. And I'm certain they'll do the rubbery stick-in-your-head kind. And I can't remember the brand, but there's some I saw in a local store that looked pretty comfy... if I remember I'll message you next time I'm there.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
do you want noise cancelling ones, or just the ones that stay in your ears? Noise cancelling ones are ridiculous in the price area.
I have a pair of Sony ones that I love, came with three different size rubbery ear caps (the soft kind I think you're referring to) for different size ear canals. Those ones weren't really expensive at all (however, I can't find the same ones ANYwhere since I bought them, but the sound quality is great).
Skull Candy are cheap, I've never tried em but they are in-the-ear earbuds (I can't wear the iPod kind, too big) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Skullcandy+-+Ink'd+Stereo+Ear+Bud+Headphon
es+-+Black/Chrome/9251098.p?id=1218072202612&skuId=9251098
found these at best buy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sennheiser+-+Ear+Bud+Headphones+-+Gunmetal
+Gray/Black/9265341.p?id=1218071607710&skuId=9265341 they're $40 but if you want em to last..... most of the customer complaints with the cheaper ones seem to be that they don't last very long.
I'd shop around a bit to see what you can find that's reasonable. Wish I was an expert on the subject but I've been lucky with having to buy very few pairs :\
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
These are the ones I have:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+Ear+Bud+Headphones+-+Black/8703389.
p?id=1199496037598&skuId=8703389&st=sony%20earbuds&cp=1&lp=1http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+Ear+Bud+Headphones+-+Black/8703389.p?id=1199496037598&skuId=8703389&st=sony%20earbuds&cp=1&lp=1
They are a lil pricey, but I've had them for ages and I luv 'em. They are not only earbuds that have those great rubbery things, but they have the piece that goes over the back of your ear so they are good for going to the gym. Hope that helps.

hey all,
I love my sennheiser headphones, in ear with hook that goes behind the ear, keeps them in place for running and gym like activities.
I hate the gym too, full of people and I can never get on what I want and there's always some moron throwing too much weight around with poor form and momentum and I can just about manage to not try to help them as they never listen but it drives me crazy. Hence power cage and weights in the garage, which gets cold but get to work out on my terms. Not that it's going well, overloaded and knackered, too much weight and restarted running, doing 6 miles for charity in March so need to get miles so taking a break.
Enough of the sports talk!
Long day, summary of office conversations, all users must die, all humans are aliens, there were no dinosaurs, next new genre of music is rap using aulde English, ie Chaucer - we don't have a name for it yet, Mark Kermode's amazing reproduction (he's on a podcat of a radio show) of the fight scenes from Ninja Assasin(s?).
I have OU work to do, boo!
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Rap with Chaucerian English..god help us if that ever happens.
Also, on a random note, going from reading these threads with white text black screen, to working on white screen with black text, hurts. (why can't they switch to black screen in office docs? easier on the eyes, lol)
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
It is a bit painful to switch back and forth so much. Even more so at home because my room is dark. I know google has a homepage thats dark but I think the results are on white. So it doesn't help much.
On Gee's note about gym people. I don't mind some people. Its when it gets so crowded my regular (ish) going self has to hunt for a machine to use. Even at like 9 something when I left last night it was pretty crowded. Normally its pretty dead by then. I'd love to run a marathon but runing hurts my everything :o( I usually just walk fast (I have it at 4.0 speed)
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Ick running ><;; running hurts massively. I'd love to do a bike marathon, however (Have to get good at biking first though XD I can't even stand up to pedal, never learned how [always fell down when I tried]), as biking doesn't hurt my knees or hips. it's that high-impact shite that'll get you >_o. walking is awesome though. Walking at 4.0 (I'm assuming thats 4 mph?) I can do. I like to walk *with* someone though (like on the road or around a track). Seems to make it go easier.

lol - I thought the Chaucean rapping would be awesome, we were going through some awesome hip hop in the office thanks to spotify!
As for running, I love it but I fell out of it due to the reflux part of my IBS and only just beginning to manage it again. Having said that, epic fail tonight, tired, lift going wrong, still having issue learning what I can and can't get away with as far as IBS, stress and activity goes. I've always been one of those people who fills their time and this doesn't lend itself well to my illness. Resulting in epic fails like tonight although I did succesfully watch over six hours of Football yesterday, only two weeks and I'll have run out, eek!

Doing okay this Wednesday morning (I think I actually saw sun on the way to work--omg). Internet fail is continuing in its epicness of fail, though the bf and I have formulated a new theory as to why it won't work. We can link to the web via direct line to the modem (we bought a new one after being told our old one had passed on), but the wireless is still shitting the bed. We think perhaps we had a power surge and it knocked out both the old modem and the router, because we've never had an incident where BOTH have failed and refuse to be fixed.
Any thoughts from any tech geek perspectives?
Sorry about your IBS mucking with your normal habits, Gee :(

Sorry, long day at work, not doing good with the constant phone distraction at work, hoping I'm just mega grumpy due to being stuck on a rubbish chair that is killing my back! New one on order but it's a custom build (to help cope with my 6ft 3 frame and the too low desk)
thanks for the sympathy FLT, it's a lot better now, just not always doing a good job of balancing everything and it can play havoc with my moods.
Another disaster on the OU front, not getting this whole work life balance thing right, in fairness, a good night of sleep would probably do wonders. Heading off in a mo.
The new people underneath us are pregnant and with our thin walls I have a nasty feeling that baby will be waking me up, hell, if she bottle feeds I'll go on the rota!
Anyway, John sounds an awesome man in the making, never to early to appreciate martial arts... oh hold on, we need to get him hooked on Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan. As for the music, get him a drum or too; might take, might not but all kids love noise if you can stand it, my nephew has the cutest mini bongos, proper drums just smaller, no relative of mine is getting toy drums!

Thanks! I shall return with detailed descriptions of what I see :P lol. I intended to bring my camera so I could take pictures of their stuff (since La is an AWESOME photographer and not a bad painter at all) but I forgot in my rush to leave this morning :( oh well.
Ok, how much of a nerd am I? I just got this little LED microlight for my keychain (since my nice little penlight decided to cease functioning on me -_- it's practically new, so no, I don't think it's the battery or the bulb) and my first question was "I wonder if it comes apart...." -- and whaddya know, it does XD doesn't matter how small or large it is, I have to know how to rip it apart and put it back together @_@
*pours self a hot chocolate and curls up in a corner to ward off winter until quitting time* one hour left :)

A gallery is like a leeetle museum where things come and go, and you can often buy them.
Or at least that's been my experience.
Sometimes you can even talk to the artist about the works you're viewing. "Really, cheesecloth? What an interesting inspiration for a work entitled The Suffering of Man."
I will now have something alcoholic, warming, and on fire please.
(Help me out here!)

The lava in my lava lamp is very phallic-y....But also very pretty.
I'm sure Freud with have a field day with that one

Freud had a field day with EVERYTHING.
I'd be more surprised if there was something he failed to intedre at extant.
Sometimes I think he was just a big "fart and giggle" kid with a PhD and a publisher.
I maintain he was a sick puppy.

Well trying to get to the gallery was a fail :( *lip quivers* as I got stuck in traffic and arrived in New Hampshire too late *sniffle*. BUT!!! La sold all but like TWO of the pieces they were showing, so they raised quite a bit of money (I got to see some of the photos that were displayed when I went to her mother's house, and as usual, they were awesome) so it was a rather successful event.
The other upside is I got to spend a couple of days with my brother and La ^_^ which I always love cuz I miss seein' em.
Off to dinner!!!

Are you sharing it? That makes it okay.
Because it was shared it makes it healthy you see.
Did you guys see about Alton Brown's diet? (I looove him).
He made sardine sandwiches. They had sardines and avocados. He made some marinade with the sardines. I was sort of intrigued. He lost a lot of weight and he's not some idiot celebrity so I sort of wanted to make one to see how it was. I have the episode saved but I'm not home now. I think he ate those mainly for meals and he made this yummy smoothie for breakfast.
edit: I love how both the bar thread and the imponerables have food topics.

sardines and avocado?
sorry, just not a sardines fan. Avocado sure, in like guacamole and poor man's caviar and stuff...
Lol, that's because we all love food ^_^ and we keep asking MsA for her recipes XD
MsA: ooh chocolate. Chocolate is win. Especially Ande's Mints.

I never had sardines before but they're all scary looking whole, with the tails and eyes and bones.
But still, there are other things that look gross that are yummy...
I just can't think of any right now. >_>
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
They're similar to anchovies, and considering how salty anchovies are I'm not too sure I'd want to try sardines ever ><;;
*pours self a cup of the Good Stuff and settles into another monotonous day* At least I have ASL to look forward to this evening ^_^
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Salty stuff is good, but I'm also kinda not fond of seeing them all whole. I don't like the idea of eating something that's looking up at me.
Just on a semi-related note... while I was researching some stuff for college I came across a wikipedia article about a type of sushi where the fish is served still alive (only just). Apparently its picked from a tank, gutted, then served still wriggling. People do weird stuff.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Ew.......that *almost* scared me away from sushi just then ><;; *shivers*
Yes, people definitely do some weird stuff.

ok eeeeeeeeew Navy:)
Actually the work chocolate is being shared with me. One of the women in our office has an enormous jar in her shared mega cubicle filled with all kinds of chocolates... is deadly difficult to stay away from
Well fine I'll do a recipe here too
Cornmeal pancakes
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 egg
1.5 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup milk.
Mix all together. Heat pan with about 1/2 inch of corn oil in the bottom. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture in. Fry until golden on each side
Now here's the cool part.. the add ins
you can add
1/4 cup chopped green chilies and it's mexican
1/4 cup chopped green onions and put it in clam chowder or soups
1/4 cup raw sugar and then make some honey butter to go with it
or 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar and some ham and it's croquettes

Ooooooh what kinds of chocolates? Truffles? hard candies? tootsie rolls?
Are these cornmeal pancakes you speak of like, pita breadishness (since they have no sugar in them like breakfast pancakes?)?
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Well at this moment it has dove dark chocolate, reses peanutbutter cups, twix, mini hersheys, milky ways, milkyway midnight, snickers, and coco drops all in miniature
the cornmeal pancakes are about double the thickness of a pita and about the diameter of a silver dollar pancake. They make great appetizers( top with just about anything ...salsa, smoked salmon and creme fraiche, guacamole, chicken salad etc...) and great meal add ons or in a stew as dumplings... they're really versatile.

That jar sounds like heaven. I've been pretty good so far. Haven't made it to the gym because well first I had no laundry and tonight I have internet time with the bestest friend in the whole wide world.
Tomorrow is hang out time with the other bestest friend in the whole wide world and possibly the hubby.
Thursday is Watchmen movie night with my fellow geeks.
So Friday! Def will go on Friday >_>
And no I can't go during the day... the um sun will burn my skin. >_>
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Sound awesome, MsA, I am adding them to my list along with all of the other recipes you post lol.
And I agree with Avery, that jar sounds like heaven.

*somnambulates into the bar*
Ok, not fun, I dreamt that other half woke me up as running late, so still half asleep I rolled over and yelled at her for not getting me up sooner...only it was four am!
neither of us are too shiny this morning.
I have brought chocolate covered coffee beans into the office to share as can't eat too many as can't have too much caffeine.
Now...tea... ginger and lemon tea as had my caffeine for the day but tea anyway. And maybe crumpets...

My foggy brain finally made a connection this mornint. The second alarm is the sound of frogs (nature CD came with clock, it used to play waves and birdsong).
Every morning my alarm clock has been telling me "Hop to it!"
I really don't like the places my mind decides to go sometimes... but it could be worse. At least it took me over a year to come up with that one.

All I can do is 'lol' to that, sorry SR. And yes, looking on the bright side it could be worse.

Now there's no need for that FLT, there are enough chocolate coffee beans for all to share, now play nice or I will have to borrow other half's teacher voice...
hey all, crappy day at work and I've managed to kill my work laptop, and it's out of warranty which means I have to get quotes on repair before they'll get me a new one, pain in the arse, particularly as it appears it's the graphics card that's gone.
Anyway, must crack on, OU work to do.

*growls quietly from dark corner before reluctantly depositing some of the chocolate covered coffee beans on the table*
Sorry bout the laptop; sucks when the electronics die :\
*curls protectively around remainder of beans* I needs them to stay awake at work. Dammit, why can't anyone around here sell chocolate covered coffee beans -_-
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Make them yourself. All you need is espresso beans, some chocolate, and the patience to do it one bean at a time.
I tend to get a little antsy and end up with a wodge of chocolate with crunchy bits inside.
Yesterday was so crap at work I was too upset to go poke people with long sticks safely, and then I was too cranky to come here. I watched Eddie Izzard and the world was a better place for a while.
I'm swilling coffee, and the agency may have a lead on a new gig for me.
I get to go deal with the cranky people (today AND tomorrow) who were not informed that their appointment was abruptly cancelled because they don't have a working number or answering machine.
I am soo sick of the BS that goes on at that place that I actually almost walked out yesterday, and did bring my stethoscope home just in case I changed my mind and didn't go in today.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Sorry you had a bad day at work, SR :\ cranky people definitely suck, especially when you can't really avoid being around them. Negative wave fail. If you can, step outside (or into a quiet space uninhabited by people) for a minute or two just to have a break. It's better to be unfindable for a few moments rather than blowing up or overstressing I think
*slings aluminum bat over shoulder and drags giant copier to breakables room* Thursday mornin' everyone, week's almost over.

I so love Eddie Izzard... really he should be commended for making the world a funnier place. Also I'd love to know who does his make- up and what brands he uses. He has the best red lipstick I've ever seen and either his mascara is world class or those are fake eyelashes.
