Hey there - just thought I'd post this info up on a new thread since some people told me they missed it yesterday on a different thread - I KNOW how many Aussie fans are out there!

The DVD is "tentatively" due out for release in Australia on the 1st of August, according to this site -

http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Discs/Disc.asp?ID=11980

Hope their info is accurate...

Oi, Oi, Oi!

Yeah! I see now the DVD's out Aug 4. Can't wait!

I think what's really great is that most of us in Australia (well - my friends and I) are fans without having actually SEEN the show! I've read all the scripts and just adored them. My love is based purely on the script and the snippets I get from fan sites like this. Seeing the show is just the cream on top. Now that's the true measure of what Joss has created...

Hi Arcady -
I know what you mean about Joss. I read the scripts as well, before seeing the show, and was hooked. My friends in Perth never had to read the scripts like me, since I got the DVD for Xmas, so they all borrow it.
Where in Oz are you?

Ha! I'm in Perth as well! Well, actually to be exact - Mandurah at the moment...
I'm gradually going to convert everyone I know into a fan once I get my dvd set

Wait what's going on here? I must be misunderstanding something. Are you saying you guys in Perth haven't gotten the DVD set yet? Because I live in Perth and I do.

I got mine from Empire Toys in Perth city, they have them there. The only place I could find it. You should give them a call, I usually see a set on display.

I don't know if my set is American or something like that but it works fine and all, no region issues.

(hope that helps)

I can't believe it!! All these Perthian Browncoats! Now I don't feel so alone. I ordered my DVD set from Amazon when it first came out.

I saw it in Empire the other week and it was, I think $90, but my source tells me Ezy DVD will have it for $70. Empires version would be region 1 (though I don't know anyone these days without a mulit-regional player anyway).

Ooh - I'm all giddy now with the realisation that I could be passing Browncoats on the street everyday. Yippee!

So do you live in Mandurah permanently Arcady?
Where in Perth are you Jumpy?

Haha this is great. I thought I was practically the only one in Western Australia to know what the hell firefly even is.

I live around the city area dude. Where abouts are you VeraCobb?

Definitely not the only one to know what Firefly is! But you're probably one of a very small number that have actually seen it.

I live in Dianella - Mount Lawley area. I'm a student at ECU there.

So I take it you were a Buffy fan first?

I'm in Brisbane and ordered the series direct from the US.
I've shown it to several people and all love it two of which have since got their own copies.
Good news about the Australian release and gives hope we'll get the BDM when it comes out.

Anyone heard anything about it being aired on TV? A while back I heard that Channel 7 had the rights to air the show, but I don't know how reliable that info was.

I have this crazy hope that once Angel finishes they'll put Firefly into its timeslot, (or a better one - though I'm not sanguine about that).

Jayne, you're scaring the women.

We might get to see it on channel 7 or Foxtell, though normally it would be shown on TV before it gets released on DVD. Chances are that if it gets shown on TV it will be on Foxtell. Channel 7 might show it at the end of the year, or over the Christmas holidays, or early next year as a lead up to the movie release, though the longer Channel 7 takes to show it the less likely it will be shown and they must have had it for over a year already.

I must say that only being able to watch Firefly on DVD does make it kind of extra special.

Yeh I agree I think its more likely it will JUST be on Foxtel. Its doubtful it will make it to any of the networks. Then again, never say never.

Lol VeraCobb I just realised that my DVD actually IS an American version. What tipped me off? Why, the FBI warning as soon as you put the DVD in!

I cant believe so many Aussie fans dont have the DVD set yet!

I'm at Newcastle, NSW, I got my set from America at the same time it was released over there. Its SWEET! especially after watchin the crappy quality kazaa downloads for so long.

I just pre-ordered my set from Video Ezy online today for $56.95 (free postage, too!) which I thought was a pretty good deal. Luckily they take cheques, cos I don't have a credit card. That was why I didn't order it from Amazon earlier - also my dvd player won't handle region 1.

Veracobb - I'm in Mandurah for a few months while I decide where I'm gonna lay my hat. Luckily I'm a writer so where my laptop goes, the work goes.

Just thinking re: screening of Firefly on TV - it might be one of those things they trot out during the Summer non-ratings period.
But - if channel 10 can screen Jake 2.0 when that's been cancelled, then I suppose the networks aren't always scared off by cancelled shows....

Being able to watch it only on DVD may be special, but it means that the number of people that get to see it will be significantly less. That means less Browncoats and less worshipers of Joss. :dissapointed:

VideoEzy have it for $65?! Ooh - I must go tell all my friends! Then they can get their own copies and stop borrowing mine.

A few years back Ch 10 showed Gross Point as well, which was also a cancelled series. Does Channel 7 have the guts to do the same though?
I agree that if they ever do show it, it's likely to be over the non-ratings period, or maybe they'll make a big event out of it and show it after the movie has been released...
