Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to the board. I'm a big fan of Firefly and can't wait for the movie! Is there anyone else from Ohio that might be interested in setting up an Ohio shindig, or maybe just a viewing party? I was hoping that we might be able to get a group together to see the premiere! Let me know what you think. Or email me at EMangel01@aol.com with the subject "firefly". Hope to hear from you soon!

'Nother Ohio fan here - in Columbus, to be exact. I'd be interested in an Ohio Shindig (preferably central OH, but open to elsewhere)... anybody got any ideas for where/when/etc?

Where were all the Browncoats on Saturday for Origins?! Figured my "accurate" Blue Sun tee woulda got much more response than it did...

I'm in Columbus too. I didn't really have any sort of solid plan for this whole shindig idea, just thought it would be fun to meet some people who like the show as much as I do. If anyone has any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated.

Quixoticone, you were at Origins on Saturday? I was there, and I saw a guy in a Blue Sun shirt, presumably you. I was going to say something about it, but...didn't. I was distracted by all the pretty dice.

Here's a thought! I just read something about a Browncoat Ball being held in Chicago over the weekend of Sept. 17th. Maybe we could get a group of Ohio fans to go. I'd like to go so anyone who's interested let me know. We could split the cost of the hotel and ride there. Let me know what you think.

It's a good possibility, although there was (at least) one other guy there Saturday also wearing a Blue Sun tee... if it was a deeper khaki colored shirt with the "true" Blue Sun logo, then it was me :)

Well if you were around the dice, it was most likely QuixoticOne. He made a few stops at the dice tables.

And yes, QO, I know I bought a bunch too.

Hey All,
Cleveland area fan here. Wish I could to the Browncoat, but I did DeConpression and Marcon this year already and that about taps me out for 04.
Speaking of DeCon, I'm on the crew that does the Con Suite there and I was wondering if any of you have actually heard of it?
It's a good 'relaxacon' type of event and it is very young. As in 2005 will be DeCon 2. If your interested in more info go here:

Ah well, back to work

Hey everyone! Please let me know how interested you are in getting together for a shindig or for a premiere party! Someone has suggested to me that if there's enough interest in getting together for the premiere then maybe we could rent out a theatre. Let me know what you think! Also... I live in both Columbus and in Cincinnati. Let me know where you're from so that we can figure out where and if to have this thing.

I'm an Ohio fan! Live in Zanesville, went to school in Springfield. I've got plans with a friend who lives in Cinci to drive out to see the movie with her - might there be a Cinci shindig in the works?
Buckeye Browncoats are the best! Just cause the alliteration's so shiny.

I'll be flying into Cincnnati and staying in Hamilton. I'll have a car so I'll be mobile. I dunno, could we pick some date and time for next week and meet in the Tri County Mall by the fountain, each holding their favorite Firefly disk?
What about you, KarenKay? Or any other Cincinnatians that I've missed?

Hello all. Greetings from north of Akron, south of Cleveland, I mean somewhere in or around Cuyahoga River in northern Summit County. The exact location is classified.
If your ever caught speeding in this area, just mention 'Firefly' at trial and you just might catch a break.
Unless your one of those Alliance types. I can think of several ways to handle those kind a folk round these parts.

NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
All right guys! So here's the update on the plans for the Ohio shindig/premiere party. What do you think about renting our own theatre for the premiere? Brad suggested that we rent our own theatre so that we can truly be ourselves while watching the movie, singing "the hero of caton" song with a bunch of strangers around may not go over so well. He also suggested possibly trying to get a little competition going between the states to see who could have the biggest attendance. Maybe we could even get the other states to rent their own theatres too. With these plans there would be one central location for all 'Buckeye Browncoats'(to coin a term used by AERRIN). This would involve a little bit of traveling for some, but not too much. Let me know your thoughts on all of this.

Currently, I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I'm pretty flexible as to a meeting date, except the 4th itself. I'm guessing a weeknight would be most convenient. I'll be in the area from the night of July 2 to the afternoon of July 11.
What might work best for you?
If it's only the two of us, though, that would be too bad.

As for a mini-Shindig on the 4th, I'm 'fraid I couldn't join in - it's the annual family reunion for me...

Emangel01,
Considering that a potential meeting would just be the two of us, and that your schedule still seems to be coming together, it's probably best not to worry about trying to get together.
We'd probably only shake hands, say "Hi", and "How about that Firefly show!" and then go our own ways.
We can really do that in here!

Sorry it doesn't seem to be working out. I would actually like to meet if it is possible, but unfortunately it may not be able to happen. I'll keep posting on here and maybe if there's a opportunity we can still meet up. Besides, karenkay99 and her friend sent me a message saying that they'd be interested in meeting if we could get the details worked out. Hope we can work something out.

Okay, let's do it.
I will even offer to treat all Browncoats who show up to a (modest) dinner! Protein, in all the colors of the rainbow!
Or something.
On Wednesday, July 7, from 6 pm to 6:30 pm local time, I will be waiting near the fountain inside the Tri County Mall, with a copy of a Firefly disk near me.
This mall is just west of the crossing of I-75 and I-275 (the loop around Cincinnati). It is south of the loop, and is not to be confused with Forest Fair Mall farther west on the north side that has (or had) a BIGGS.
If that doesn't work, then propose a different set of space-time coordinates.
I will try to check this site, but after tomorrow morning I probably won't be able to post (don't want to presume to give up my brother's e-mail).

I've only been to the Arena Grand once, but I agree, it is a nice theatre. It is definitely a possibility for our location seeing as Columbus is probably the most easily accessible for everyone involved, but we're still hashing out the details. If you have any more suggestions I'm eager to hear them.

Hi all,
I'm in Columbus, and there's a few more Buckeye Browncoats around that drop by here from time to time. There are also a bunch on the OB. Another OB'er, Nonoluna, organized a shindig here in February. About 20 people showed up, and much mayhem and hilarity ensued.
I kinda like the Arena Grand idea, but some of the folks I met at the shindig are putting together a premiere viewing party in the Cincinnati area http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages?msg=14039.1. I'm planning on going, perhaps you guys might be interested in a caravan?
If any of you attended Marcon this year, I hope you were able to stop by the Firefly party room (BTW we're planning to do another one next year, plus maybe a fan table, and sure could use more volunteers). We also managed to get three Firefly panels added to the agenda (a Marcon first), which were moderately successful.
I'm planning on going to the Browncoat Ball too. Drop me a line if you're in the area and need a lift. But keep in mind I'll probably leave on Thursday and return Monday.

Current plan is the AMC theater in Newport, KY (right across the river from Cincy). Nice theater w/stadium seating. Looks like some folks from the Louisville area may join up too. The OB guys are planning some kind of viewing shindig in addition to just seeing the movie. This could become a big damn party!

Checking in from Columbus here. I'd like to keep tabs on any Central Ohio Firefly events. A nice dinner to chat all things Firefly might be nice as a get-to-know-you.
I'd also be interested in a premiere party (though it may be the 2nd, 3rd, or 10th time I will have seen the film, depending on how long after midnight we see it :-)

Gojiro has a great idea! Yeah!
Start a rock band around the Cincinnati area! The Real Me and the Gang!
I can see it now!
EMangel01 fronts the band, belting out soulful ballads and hard rock songs that...
No, that's not right. We've got to coin a new term. Fresh. Trendy. How about "harsh rock"? Yeah. "Harsh Rock!" It will be the next big thing!
Where was I? KarenKay99 on lead guitar. Gojiro on bass. JDW71 at the keyboard. The Real Me will be on drums, primarily because he already has a lot of experience beating his head against walls. How much different could it be?
Now, what's the best way for me to lose or hide tens of years and pounds? Hmmmm... That makes it a doubly good idea to stay behind the drum set!
Yeah! A band!
What a great idea!

Oh, that...
Ummm...
Heh.
Well...
I have somewhat unwisely expressed an opinion on the movie without actually watching it. Shocking, but it's true. It is in the "I saw 'I Robot' today" thread of recent vintage in the Talk Story Forum.
I said basically that the previews showed robots running amok and endangering humans, and such a thing COULD NOT happen in Asimov's world. I expressed the opinion that unless something TERRIBLY clever was done to excuse this, they should not tack Asimov's name or book title onto the story.
That said, I promised to actually watch the movie. Fair is fair, after all, and I am prepared to eat my words.
When I watch the movie.
Which I haven't.
Yet.
The Real Me
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
LOL!!! That's great! Well, I thought that it was pretty good. Granted I have not read Asimov's book yet so I can't speak with much authority on the subject. That being said. It's still pretty impressive as movies go and you may like it. The three laws were discussed heavily in the movie which was really interesting. Let me know when you do see it, 'cause now I'm really excited to hear you opinion of it!
~EMangel01
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Oh, that reminds me.
I also said that it could still be a good movie, perhaps even better than Asimov's stories...
I just thought that it probably shouldn't have been connected to Asimov.
But whatever. I think Asmiov's book sales will probably skyrocket.
