Which character from Firefly would you favour having a spin-off series...?

This needn't be specific to the central characters. So the tapestry from which to draw on is rich and full of potential.
So who would you pick.... And what angle would you like to see it take?
Cheers

Zoe as the lead supported by a couple of the 'not quite so major' characters (in other words, not River or Mal). There's no way it would be as good as Firefly, so it shouldn't try. I think it would be more interesting to see how Zoe moves on and to see the 'verse throw the eyes of some of the characters who got less action in the series and movie.
Much as I love Mal, I don't think I could watch a spin off with him in it and not think "this is kind of cool, but it's just not as good as firefly." However, I'd love to see him guest star in a few episodes.

Saffron, running a new scam with a new name every week. Maybe a trickle of backstory every now and then, until we find out her name and where she comes from and why her one true love is manipulation.
Facts are stubborn things.

I know what you mean. It would feel somewhat estranged from the real show.. Interesting.

Saffrontales is a definite winner. Yet I'd like to see the continuing bumbling adventures of Marco and The Other Guy. Forever scoring weak crime. Like when in Serenity Mal knew to find the mechanism to open the real vault during the payroll heist, Marco & chum would have considered the few bills in the false vault a good score. Then they'd lose it anyway running from the Reavers.
And so forth each week, barely surviving despite their incompetence. Maybe a little Jayne back story. A few cameos of Zoe, usually huddled in a dark corner of some seedy bar, talking business.

That captain from "safe," the one who is on a tour for the first time (the one who kinda looks like Slavik from command and conquer tiberian sun).
Guy has character. Doesn't look totally evil. could be cool

Jayne
It's my suspicion that he might have the most interesting and unusual back story of the entire crew.

I always figured that "The Man Called Jayne" would of premiered shortly after Firefly season 3.

Here's my vision for a FIREFLY spinoff called, oddly enough, FIREFLY.
First, there's a sequel to the SERENITY movie. In the movie, a few things happen:
1) The crew is involved in a scam that requires them to salvage and use a second, derelict Firefly to pose as Serenity (possibly dubbed Duplicity or something like that).
2) A new war for Independence is in the offing. This isn't Mal's war, though, so he decides he's sitting this one out.
3) Simon, on the other hand, decides that he DOES have political and personal interests in this war (given what has happened to his family), so...
Either at the end of the movie or in a special 2-hour premiere, Simon grows up, rebels against "daddy" Mal, and goes off to war as the captain of the Duplicity.
The cast is smaller than the original FIREFLY (maybe seven) and is a mix of characters brought over from the original series plus new ones.
As an added bonus, characters who can't be regulars because their actors have other gigs (such as Mal and Jayne) can easily put in a guest appearance or two per season.
A number of people have commented on Saffron, and I like that idea, so perhaps she joins the crew in the pilot, after a deal goes south with her current partner (who would become a recurring "frenemy" of the crew), played by... Neil Patrick Harris!

Perhaps a show centering around Magistrate Higgins. It would focus on his many quirks and fetishes, including his desire to watch his own son having sex.
Some episode titles could be....
Young Man's Got Stamina!
Debbie Does Higgin's Moon
Behind The Green Escape Hatch
Is That A Prod In Your Pocket, Or Do You Like Me?
Sweatbox Sweethearts
Mudder, Can You Spare A Dame?
The Magistrate In Miss Jones
Don't Landlock My Joystick
etc., etc.

Damn good choice, great idea - the Ying and The Yang in the black.
I thought on this a number of times, but it's hard for me to choose from the crew (I love 'em all) and each has an interesting back story to tell. I want the crew together in a series, miniseries or sequel.
Having said that, I'm gonna choose from the many juicy characters that we were introduced to. Three stand out for me:
1. Saffron, but someone already suggested her;
2. Monty, although his on screen time was relegated to the intro to Trash, I love this character. How did he get to be captain of a smuggling ship? You have to have some "smarts" as he would put it, to be captain. What about his crew? How did he meet Saffron? These are questions I want to have answers to.
3. Jubal Early, Bounty Hunter: this is quite intriguing to me, mainly because of the interesting ways he would pursue and capture his bounty. He would spout poetic and kafkaesque passages while kicking some serious ass. Just think some he would flat out hand over to the Alliance and some he would agonize over as he did with River - plus how did he capture the arson-influenced midget?
Much as I love Monty and Saffron, I choose Jubal. Does that seem right to you?

Although he appeared in only one episode, Jubal was very well developed, and played by a skilled actor. The good script helped, but there have to be a lot of interesting stories in the verse that could best be told via Bounty Hunter Jubal Early.

Wow. Nobody's wanted a spin-off of just River? I'll say it then, I'd love a spin-off where River's the star.
And hopefully she's barefoot as much as she was on Firefly. :P

It could never be as good as the original ensemble cast. That dynamic is what made Firefly special. For me, anything less would just tear open the wound FOX inflicted when they axed the series. I think it would just make me long for the old Firefly even more keenly than I already do.

Fair to say Toadsmoothy.
However would something not be better than nothing at all...?
Say a series based on the comical exploits of a uniquley gifted Pilot by the name of Wash...?
I'd imagine a kind of Rockford files based in space; our hero Wash takes on seemingly innocuous piloting jobs that somehow seem to place him in danger.
Living in a beaten up hanger that houses spaceship relics from the past; his mechanicical and much more debonaire father helps the business tick over by assisting his son maintain some sort of a lifestyle as a freelance space pilot.

Inara and Mal
Inara: You have a strange sense of nobility Captain. You'll lay a man out for implying I'm a whore but you keep calling me one to my face.
Mal: I might not show respect to your job, but he didn't respect *you*. That's the difference. Inara, he doesn't even see you.
Inara: Well, I guess death will solve the issue to everyone's satisfaction.

OK. If you push me into it. How about a series on Kaylee and Jayne. They own a mechanics shop. She fixes the space ships. He mans the front desk, kicked back in a cruddy office chair, smoking a cigar, insulting customers and occasionally rifles through their ships looking for stuff he can pilfer. hahaha Hi-larious! ;)

Hey! I'm pleasantly surprised you like it! I think I'm the only person on here rooting for a Kaylee x Jayne thing. hahaha He's always teasing her and acting like a lout. She's always scolding him and cuffing him up 'side the head. That's what I call LOVE! hahaha
Now we just need to talk to Joss!

The ship.
Wouldn't need any of the original actors (tho you could sneak in some cameos), you already have a pre-existing verse, and like the man said, it'll run forever if you got a mechanic even half awake.
So why not have a new band of ragtag misfits down on their luck stumble over the only ship they can afford, and go from there - and you'd have to pad in a scene or two of bewilderment over Kaylees decorative touches and musing about former crews.
That could work, yanno.

Well, little Kaylee is the most defenseless one of the crew. She needs someone to protect her in the rough and tumble Verse. Who better than Jayne? They are both simple, outgoing, physical creatures, more so than anyone else on that boat. Once she gets this Simon fixation out of her system and grows tired of his pretentious attitude, she may come to appreciate what Jayne has to offer ie. protection and lots of lusty sex! hahaha
Edit: After thinking on it awhile, I think Jayne should remain as he is. If he was suddenly being bossed around by a wife, he would cease to be Jayne and become Jane.
