Condoms. We will amuse ourselves with condoms. I have a new thermos which should prove useful for illustrating a point.

BTW Valentines is a disturbing and inappropriate holiday that ties the measure of love a person has to you to the cost and volume of gifts they purchase. I refuse to celebrate it. I'd prefer my husband love me 365 day a year and I don't need gifts to prove it. He proves it every day by being an awesome caring father and a loving supportive husband

I hope you get to feeling better soon, MSA. Bronchitis isn't any fun, and it lasts way too long.
I liked this week's Castle ep. I like the episodes that they play more seriously. There's more character development in them.
I was watching "The Invention of Lying" tonight. Becket's captain played the landlord in it, and Justin Bateman was in it too. It was sort of like having a bottle of "Nathan Lite" there for a moment.
Honestly, I don't understand the people who can't tell them apart. They look completely different to me.

That. Sucks.
Just one more day containing a big quiz, a lab, and a big exam.. then it's Spring Break and I'll have plenty of time to study and finish my chem and math labs!
Last week's CVA quiz garnered 49/50 and a sticker. Best score yet in that class.

I need to see about taking Calc 1 the second half of the summer.

Okey dokey, that was not so much fun.
House hunting began yesterday. We hit three open houses, decided not to bother with a fourth, and then went to see two more places with our agent. The first one was not so bad. The second one's owners need to be smacked. Hard. Big old house, could be great with a LOT of work and money. They let the roof go and go until there was water leaking down interior walls and there's mold growing in the ceilings. THEN they had the balls to ask what they're asking for the place. The pool's about trashed, the deck's in need of repair, the garage roof's in about the same shape, and they did something stupid with wood in a damp basement. The lot's nice, the locations' not bad, and if they'd just taken care of the place we wouldn't be able to afford it it would be so nice. It's not just needing a new roof, there's no telling what's growing where. Stupid jerks.
They didn't deserve to have such a nice big old place and now unless somebody saves it nobody else can use it either.
(grrrrrrr)
So yeah, tomorrow and Thursday are seven places each day, plus a few more Wed or Fri. They apparently couldn't get anything lined up for today. The nerve, having other clients and stuff!
I need more vacation in my vacation.

Oh yeah.. I've been to that house's twin. The property was AMAZING and part of the house was lovely.. the rest of it looked like a demented child had been caretaking. Would have costs a fortune to fix and they were asking way too much in light of that.
Your best bet, in light of the market, is to ask your realtor to pull listings that have been on the market more than 9 months. Desperate owner=good price negotiation

Or owner = too stubborn to lower price even after 9 mos b/c they were told by someone that someone else in the area got $X for their house even though it's not comparable. Or they've got a mortgage that's bigger than the resale value. Or..

Letting go is hard.
There's one I saw online that I would LOVE, but it's about 70K more than we can afford.
It will be long gone by the time I'm earning money again, and Boychild will be off to college then anyway so the school district (icing on the cake) will be irrelevant. (Did I mention the inground pool and studio space over the four car garage/workshop/barn?) Letting go now, really..
So we move on to the rest of "whatever's left" and get on with the process. I'll survive so long as it's habitable and we're not climbing over each other and handing the neighbors toilet paper across the setbacks.
Could be worse, we could be renting a crappy apartment.

The roof over the addition will need replacing almost immediately. The Radon testing should be finished by tomorrow. The septic dye test needs to happen. After that it should be (fairly) smooth sailing to closing. I hope. (Prolly shouldn'ta said that aloud, eh?)
There is a truly staggering amount of parking space at this place. Whole lotta basement too.
I'm mostly focused on horizontal space in the kitchen and having a bathtub for the first time in almost five years.
And getting the orange carpet out and the walls painted. (You don't understand. You couldn't possibly understand until you see it for yourself. Which will not be happening until we've closed. Then I might make the pictures happen.)

You can has house?!
Oh, wait.. sorry. I got really excited for you for a minute there, then realized you meant me..
To top it off, before he left for the winter my father told his tenant (a friend of mine who I set up with his place) that she needed to be out at the end of April. She's got four cats and an elderly dog and is having trouble finding a house to rent.
We have a tenant lined up if the sale goes through, but they're on a month to month basis.
I asked her if she'd be interested, and she said maybe. She does, luckily, have another prospect on the line.. so I won't feel bad if she turns me down or the deal falls through, and I won't feel too badly if she decides it's a good offer.
I'm not poaching his tenant, since he's already essentially kicked her out. I feel responsible for her having to put up with him for this long, and for her having to find another place at all somehow.
OTOH, not technically my problem and there's a bird in the hand.

Oh no, we are not replacing ourselves.
I got a friend of mine into my father's other property (upstairs from him) about two years ago. She's had to put up with him as a landlord, and no written agreement, and no repairs, and...
And now this winter out of the blue he decided to tell her she needed to be out sometime around April.
So I feel badly about all this.
And I thought that if she was interested it would be nicer to have a tenant we know (and know to be reliable) vs. a complete stranger. Especially since it's across the street from an elementary school. And since he's already told her she has to leave it's not like I'm trying to lure her away.
The tenant there now just moved in recently and is on a month-to-month lease. (Although the sellers are dragging their heels about producing said lease so we can see what our upcoming obligations are. Makes me wonder.)
Anyway, I haz teh craplung and needs a many toddies plz.

So far today we've almost lost the house to "we never said that, didn't you get our last email?",
(Glare)
then got a "nevermind".
One more thing, just one more thing, and I'm going to personally drop-kick the seller's agent into next Thursday.
Now they have to jump the next hurdle: OUR lawyer. And she's good, so they're not going to get away with any more bullshite.
I will be so glad when this is all over. In some ways being back to square one as of 8am was almost a relief. Doctroid, however, is happier this way I think.. so we'll run with it.

Oh don't you just love negotiating...
Not really, no.

Now the imminent shutdown means there might not be a mortgage agreement when we need it, and there's no telling how long the temper tantrum will hold things up.
Plus: no.. no, this is heading into a troll territory rant and I will not do that.
So:

Hey..invite all parties to a , well , party. Get everyone liquored up and get signatures all round...obviously you must include the county clerk who will record the sale etc.
To love someone is to see a miracle invisible to others.

I am NOT inviting half of DC over just to get a house sold. Unless it's theirs. And I get to keep the proceeds from all of them. (ahem)
At least the snow's mostly melted from my yard again! Progress!

We could go with my plan ( poison the lot of them and start over )
Sorry feeling somewhat disgruntled... if this shutdown happens the IRS will take even more time to clear us and even more wonderful houses will pass us buy as we languish in our cramped , old, dishwasher-less, drafty rental. ARGH!!!!!!!!
EDIT- NEW THREAD

Never challenge "worse". It could always be worse.
We'll probably end up scheduling our housewarming parties on the same weekend.
Laphroaig.
Large quantities.
For everyone.
