Ok, so i could have sworn just yesterday i saw someone post a link to download the firefly theme in midi format. I just looked for it thrice and cant seem to find it. So if someone can direct me to that thread...

The website http://www.wap.pcs3g.com/ is a place where you can download ringtones to your phone. someone would simply need to upload the firefly ringtone (and you can upload there) and then boom, we got a downloadable ringtone.

I'm guessing Haken could probably do this off fff.net the same way he has with download the serenity screen saver. Whichever works.

So...wheres that dang midi file?

Contrary to what the file extension shows, this is an MP3, not a midi.

You can't use it as a ringtone on most phones. A firefly ringtone would be very cool, though - anyone have a midi of the theme?

You can turn any mp3 into a phone ring...lyrics and all.....

I have a sprint phone (samsung N400), and it uses a special format (.QCP). If anyone is interested, I would be happy to create the ringtone.

The only problem is size. Doing the whole song would be nearly impossible. You would need to choose a certain section, maybe 10 seconds long. Most ring tones I have created need to be under 50kb in size.

The other problem is having a server with the correct mime settings for the phones to download the file correctly.

www.3gupload.com used to be a great site for info on this kind of thing.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think

Most phones can only play MIDIs or similar proprietary formats. MIDI files are very small, which is why you can have fairly longish (at least 40s or so) ringtones.

If your phone is high end enough to play mp3s, you can just use that directly.

I have a sprint samsung phone, and I would love to have a firefly ringtone.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Ok, so I'm no expert at what i'm doing here but the website i mentioned needs the midi file to be no more than 500KB.

The midi file that was posted the other day somewhere didnt have any lyrics so i think it would work.

So hopefully we can get some kind of midi file and the Ballad of Serenity will play everytime someone calls.

Curse my inexpensive Kiocera phone! Neither of those site will work for me. I'm doubly frustrated now because I've actually gotten my greedy claws on the midi. My phone, nay my life, is an empty shell without The Ballad of Serenity! Any help?

Ok, so here's how it is:

Big thanks to WildHeavenFarm for finding the midi file.

The song is done through instruments so theres no lyrics. Ideally, we like to just take a little clip of the mp3 verison of the theme song and shorten it down to a midi file. I've seen a bunch of programs that can do this but I dont feel like buying a whole program just for this task. However, i'm sure theres got to be some tech savvy browncoat who knows how to do. Lets find him/her. Till that time

Download the midi file off the link. Go to http://www.wap.pcs3g.com/
The site is made for phones with SPrint PCS vision, but it says it supports other phone types. Im sure you can figure it out.

Go to ringers:upload. Upload the midi file from your computer. The upload will be sucessful and you can click on the song. Click it, enter your phone number, and your phone should get a text message allowing you to download the song.

I'm sure there are easier and faster ways to do. I just don't know them. Hope this helped somewhat

I have posted a 'qcp' file to http://www.wap.pcs3g.com

the file id is: 29219

the file name is serenity.qcp. This is full music and lyrics of the first 30 seconds of the ballad of the serenity.

Its around 50kb.....but I can cut that if there is is a smaller section of the song people want.

Enjoy!

I guess I will have to search for another place to put the file.

The mime settings for the server are very specific for you to be able to download the file to your phone.

I will update this post if I find something suitable.

email me tausetiprime@yahoo.com if you just want me to send you the file.

then went to the 'wap' website, uploaded the file, then downloaed it my phone. Works, just a little bit of back and forth. Plus it goes great with my Serenity screensaver on my phone too!

I would change, but it's the only one on my plan that is multi-network capable, which I need only a couple of times a year, but when I do need it, I need it....maybe I'll change, but let the hubby's stay at this model...he's *usually* with me when I'm out of town...hmmmm....to get the Firefly theme as a ring tone, might be worth it (frankly, I'm getting tired of Red Dwarf in monophonic...)

You need to right click (assuming you have a PC) and then select "save target as". This should bring up the standard Windows "save as" window. Make your choice and the download will begin.

Hope that helps.

I have a Handspring Treo 600, and I have just got this to work.

I downloaded the file on my PC, then uploaded it on to my website. I then used my Treo to browse to my website, and clicked on the link to the file.

It installed automatically!

You can probably do it it by just using the Treo to browse to Mr Toade's original link

Ya know, I just went to the site today, and it seems that the ringers aren't on there anymore...

In the forums section there are questions like 'what happened to the ringtones?' and 'when will they be back', however no replies from anyone saying what happened or why. I did notice a link on the top that's for a site that lets you upload your own files and such, of course there is a $10 fee.... hmmmm, coincidence?

If your phone can navigate to WAP sites, there's another service that allows you to upload your own files to a WAP site. http://wappy.to/ There you can Sign up, set up your own site, then link to the midi files of your choice (which you have to upload to some other site). If you want the firefly tone, you can go to the site I just set up: wappy.to/webmagi
There are two tones listed on my site, but they're the same thing. Hope this helps!

If you send i Pix message to your email, and then respond back to your phone with the midi file saved as an attachment, you will recieve it on your phone. Just save the sound and it will go into your "my media" folder. A huge thanks for whoever made this midi file! It goes well with my buffy and angel ringtones. I was able to get the firefly ringtone on my cell phone. I uploaded it to this site via my pc, then used my cell phone to browse to the site, searched for it, then downloaded and set it as my ringtone. When I tried it with a friend's phone, she could get to the site with her cell phone, listen to it, but not save it?? Very frustrating for her (and believe me, we investigated every option and feature on her phone - no luck).

for the nokia 6101, this is what i had to do.

1) on your home comp goto http://whim.stakface.com/index.php?filter=lqmp3&view=blog
scroll down Ballad of Serenity and dowload it (it's like 56 seconds)

2) goto http://mobile17.smashworld.com and sign up (free). upload the mp3 (i chose to have them text me when done. don't be shocked if it tells you that it'll take 16000 hours. just refresh - took maybe 5 mins)

3) follow instructions in text -- must have mobile internet access!!!

4) ENJOY!! I am!!!

what the....

oh yeah, when the file is converted and you go to the WAP site, it'll give you the option of D/Ling a midi version, too -- just for y'all that can't use a mp3 ringtone....

I'm always late to the party, including this one.

I've found the coveted MIDI ringtones, and put them up on my little site. You'll find them at http://www.subgenus.com/wap/ringtones/movies_tv/

Any WAP/XHTML/HTML/DHML/etc capable phone (or PC) can be pointed to: http://www.subgenus.com/wap/ringtones/ where you can browse and download the already-existing MIDIs, images, etc. You can upload things with your PC at: http://www.subgenus.com/wap/upper.php - I tried to make it very simple, and it's entirely free. (Sorry, no MP3, and limit is 130k/file.)

It's pretty straight forward, and easy to use. Works fine with my (was made for my) Nokia 6010 (Basically, the T-Mobile USA version of the 3595). Enjoy, fellow Firefly fans!

Now, your phone needs to have some form of internet access. If it doesn't you're SOL. If you are, and have a phone similar to mine, this is the sequence (Sorry for the ugliness; this forum doesn't speak BBCode, so I am unfamiliar with most of it's abilities..):

Press the Menu Button
Go to 'Gallery', Select
Gallery Downloads
Tone Downloads
More Bookmarks
Options
New Bookmark
http://www.subgenus.com/wap/
Save as 'Subgenus WAP', or whatever.
Select, "Go to'.
Scroll through the offered files, and 'Follow Link'
for the files you want, or choose different page numbers to scroll through the offered items; I've broken it into groups
of ten.
After you download what you want:
Options, Playback.
Save if you choose.

Hi,

Sorry, am utter technophobe and am trying to find someone who can tell me how to put the Ballad of Serenity on my phone. It is a Samsung E720 and I live in the UK if that makes any difference.

Apologies if this has been covered already but I couldnt see it.

Thanks,
Our Mrs W

I had to link to the site I quoted via mobile internet access on my phone and then downloaded it from there. Shouldn't much matter what kind of phone ya got.
I am a total non-techie person and I did it - so can you!!
