Herman Cain: The Buffoon Strikes Again

Personally, I don't think the guy WANTS to win. Given his long-time track record as a speaker for the Koch-backed AFP, I think, like Palin (and maybe Bachman), his "run" is actually just a way to enhance his profile and guarantee more yummy speaking engagements.Quote:
Herman Cain is the man who wants to be our President (well that is what he wants you to believe). He has soared past Presidential hopeful Texas Governor Rick Perry and is currently in 2nd place behind former Governor Mitt Romney in the polls. Since his surge, he has been given more of an opportunity to appear on television to express his self-hate, (I mean his thoughts on various social issues, which includes the African-American community). I promised myself, that I would never give Cain the light of day on this blog, but I could not help myself after his most recent buffoonery quote. Candy Crowley of CNN asked Cain if incarceration levels in the African-American community were in part of institutionalize racism. She also asked him if Blacks were on the same economic playing field as everyone else in the United States. Huffingtonpost reported Cain’s response, to Crowley’s question:Quote:
It is astonishing how someone can be so misguided and out of touch with the African-American community. Every time he opens his mouth his brain is on display, and it is a ghastly sight I might add. The fact that Cain has an increase platform to promote his rubbish is dangerous. Who appointed him the spokesperson that represents and speaks for over 40 million African-Americans?
“I don’t believe there is racism in this country today that holds anybody back in a big way. Is there some… are there some elements of racism? Yes. It gets back to, if we don’t grow this economy, that is a ripple effect for every economic level, and because blacks are more disproportionately unemployed, they get hit the worst when economic policies don’t work. That’s where it starts. Grow this economy and it’s going to help everybody get jobs and to get back in the workforce.”
Before his recent rant he went after the Wall Street protesters again; from the LA Times:Quote:
Remember, he told the Wall Street protesters, that it is their own fault they do not have a job. I can quote this buffoon all day, and all it will do is solidify the notion that he is an egotistical moron. The Tea Party is his darling because he represents their racist rants. Uncle Tom Cain has to realize he will never be President. In a way, he knows he will not. I truly think he is using his current popularity to promote his own agenda, which is his book. He is probably hoping he can secure millions of dollars when his campaign ends (which can not end soon enough) so he can be the next Sarah Palin. His role as a token will have an expiration date soon enough, just ask former GOP leader Michael Steele how that turned out. What I notice about Cain is that he lacks a lot of traits, and one of them is empathy. It is so sad to watch a man with irrational ideology, continue to spread his rhetoric for the entire country to hear and read. I also notice he is ashamed of the fact he is even black; he has that Judge Clarence Thomas persona. So here is hoping his campaign ends soon and he is finally silence. It is quite obvious that black is not his favorite color, so it will make it all worth my while to watch him fade to it. http://for-the-masses.com/wordpress/herman-cain-the-buffoon-strikes-ag
Republican presidential contender Herman Cain amplified his criticism Sunday of the growing Occupy Wall Street movement, calling the protesters “jealous’ Americans who “play the victim card” and want to “take somebody else’s” Cadillac.

Keep up the good work Niki, labeling any Black that doesn’t enable the dysfunctional government dependent Black culture as mentally deficient is just what the Republicans need to bring blacks back home were they are respected in the party of MLK. It’s just to perfect, all the Republicans need to do to win back Minority votes is to stand by and watch as Dems disrespect and marginalize Blacks that dare sway for the Dem plantation.

Yeah, keep telling black Democrats that they're "on the plantation" - that really shows respect, and I'm sure they'll appreciate it, just as I'm sure they appreciate being told that they're brainwashed.
What exactly is this "government dependent Black culture" you keep speaking of, anyway? Again, way to show your "respect" for black people. Nothing shows your respect for a culture like calling it "dysfunctional" and "government dependent".
From your words and tone, it's pretty clear what you really think of black people. You really view an entire race of people as "dysfunctional", "government dependent" and living on a "plantation".
I don't think Herman Cain is dumb because he's black. I think he's dumb because he repeatedly shows himself to be dumb. He says things that are incredibly idiotic, and he says things that are demonstrably untrue, and he says patently offensive things that, when called upon to explain himself, he tries to claim are "jokes" - and then a few minutes later, he claims he's NOT joking, that he's serious about such things.
I think he's a buffoon, and I think he's mentally deficient, but not because of the color of his skin.
You, on the other hand, have labeled an entire race, an entire culture, as being unable to care for themselves or think for themselves. And in so doing, you claim that you are the one who really "respects" that culture. You really should see to the log in your own eye.

Dude, punctuation is your friend. YANOO, those funny little mark-things, the dots and squiggles. Look real close, I used some... They help make your ideas make some sense.
Just, kinda: mix some in; every few' words " or so. wherever (it) feels good!
EDIT-- OH, this too: only 5 punctuations in almost 400 characters, and 75 words. Dude, they're FREE! NO sense bein' CHEAP with 'em, they don't cost nothin'.
Spelling helps two.

Herman Cain seems to really get to some people on the Left, for some reason I can't quite fathom since he's no threat whatsoever to the Left...
I find most of these attack articles against him ugly and narrow-minded.
It's not personal. It's just war.

There it is, indeed. And it's no less offensive, and I don't care if the blogger is black or white, this is just asinine, and the even greater crime, for a writer or anyone calling themselves or fancying themselves one, is that the blogger's idiocy is so clumsily worded.
All she can see is that Herman Cain is black, not that he's a conservative. She seems to have major issues with him simply because he's black. It's as if this blogger thinks Herman Cain should not be allowed to believe what he believes, and the entire reason he shouldn't is because of the color of his skin.

If it is disrespectful to tell the harsh truth then I guess I'm guilty. I unlike Niki choose to praise successful blacks and condemn those that enable the current destructive black culture. What exactly do you consider functional about 72% of black children born out of wedlock, with 90% living in families with only one of their birth parents. I suppose one out of ten black men being in prison seems normal to you. Maybe it's the 21% black unemployment rate or 46.5% rate for black youths you find functional. This is the result of their blind allegiance to the dems and the only reason for it is because many are dependent on government services or have family that are. As long as blacks vote in mass for the Dems nothing is going to change for the positive. I hope some day blacks will decide to use their voting power to actually help themselves instead of being a base group for those who benefit politically by keeping them down.

Really? I've never once heard you praise President Obama.
I hear you praising Cain for "telling it like it is" and telling "the harsh truth", but I don't really hear you admitting that he benefited from the same affirmative action policies that he now decries. I guess for a poor black kid trying to make it, those were good policies, but now that he's "made it", he doesn't see the need to extend a hand to those who are still struggling.
Quote:

It certainly doesn't seem "normal" to me, especially when black men are imprisoned at a much higher rate than whites FOR THE SAME CRIMES. You seem to see it as indicative of blacks just being more "criminal" by nature, and I see it as a strong indicator of the racial bias and imbalance still ruling the "justice" (HA!) system.

I assume it was Kirk who wrote all that? I don't bother reading, I know what to expect, and that was about right. It's always just bullshit anyway. So I don't praise successful blacks, eh? Hee, hee, hee. Thing is I admire successful PEOPLE, I don't care what their skin color is. That's the difference between us.
I have nothing against Cain having been successful, any more than anyone else. All I know of him is a bit of his background and what comes out of his mouth, and what comes out of his mouth is what I judge by--and that makes him a buffoon (not my choice of words, either, title of the article). I heard him cracking that if someone asked him the name of the President of "uzbekistanistan" or somesuch idiocy, he'd say he didn't know, he had "people" for that sort of thing. That right there is quite enough for me.
KPO, he doesn't "get to us" (you I DO read). You guys said the same thing about Palin, and it was equally ridiculous. We laughed at her, now we're laughing at him, because both of them have made fools of themselves in much the same ways. See, we'd really like some sort of LEGITIMATE candidate on the right, and thus far, there ain't any. The choices are either people it's not worth paying attention to or buffoons like Bachman, Perry, Cain, etc., who are nothing but jokes. That IS my choice of words.

Whatever your words Niki my issue is with the words of the article.
Yes I did go after Sarah Palin a lot, but it was never personal, I tended to just laugh at her and express hope that she would run for president. At the same time some of the treatment she and her family got from other liberals made me feel like Jon Stewart: "Stop making me feel sorry for the Palins!"
And similar with this article on Cain:
Quote:
Uncle Tom Cain has to realize that he will never be president
Quote:
I also notice he is ashamed of the fact he is even black
Why this race-traitor bullshit? A black man can be a conservative, or even a tea-partier if he wants to. And conservatives can support a black candidates for reasons other than wanting a 'token' black candidates for appearances. As I say it seems ugly and small-minded to me.
It's not personal. It's just war.

You're right, it is. I didn't agree with all of it, but some of it was very right on, in my opinion. NOT the stuff you mentioned, tho' it seems to me he's either ashamed he's black, jealous of not being white, totally ignorant or a liar. Racism doesn't keep anyone from getting ahead in this country? That's so far beyond a joke it's not even worth...well, anything! And if you don't have a job, blame yourself? It seems to me like he's deliberately targeting black people with both those statements.

If I hear one more Uncle Tom reference ...
Arrrg.
My problem with Cane is that he seems somewhat uneducated about the issues and he lacks articulation skills. I'm tired of inarticulate presidents, he seems like one who would have to look at the telepromptor all the time and I'm tired of that. Where are the orators? I think they've all gone the way of the Laviathan or the mammoth.
If people kept asking me questions that had a "perscribed" answer and they called me mean names when I didn't give the answer they wanted I'd get pretty fed up.
Small example that isn't perfect, but hey we'll go with it. I'm visually impaired, was born that way, will die that way. Guidedogs are something that lots of visually impaired people like having and like to take everywhere with them. If people asked me questions about that all the time with the assumption that I think everyone should be able to take their dogs, certified, unofficially trained, whatever, everywhere all the time I probably wouldn't give the answer they're looking for because animals near me freak me out, anxiety disorder trigger etc. So I'm not all gung ho about dogs all over. I support the rule that dogs are allowed everywhere if they are certified service animals and the person needs them in order to do the things they need/want to do in life, but I'm opposed to fudging the rules for "Oh I trained him myself but I haven't gotten around to registering him yet, he's really sweet" dogs. So my experiences in life have a hand in how I feel about certain issues which other people in my situation have different opinions on than me. I'm an exception, I'm an individual.
I'm not trying to compare Cane and I directly because the situation he is asked about is way more important, but we are similar in that we both have opinions based on how we experience the world around us. Apparently he feels this way, whether its true or not is another matter. But I don't like chunking people into boxes of how they _should feel because they are (fill in the blank).
Now, if he were more articulate he might be able to pull off stating his opinion without ruffling feathers, that's the art of diplomacy and articulation at work, he doesn't have mastery of this art, or even proficiency of it.

If there were the level of racism the civil rights warlords like Jessie and Al would have us believe, there's no way folks like Herman, Justice Thomas or Condie Rice could achieve to anywhere near the degree they have.
Herman, once again, is right. Those who'd love nothing more than to dismiss him, out of hand, simply because he disrupts their precious world view, are clinging a forgotten time, simply because such views allow them to have power over individuals.
That time is over.

Quite often, yes, companies WILL pay a settlement, rather than go to court. Costs less and doesn't drag the company through the mud.

I'll take eyewitness testimony over NO testimony any day. Until you give me another witness there is only one story and that story is that nothing happened.

There's nothing this committed media won't do to demonize Cain, or any front runner, in the GOP field.
Cain says nothing on this matter, he's covering up. He clarifies something, he's "changing his story ", and or breaking the non disparagement clause , or some such....

Anyway, there is no reason at all to go after Cain from a Democratic party perspective, except that its funny and speaks loudly to the ridiculousness of the Republican pool of candidates as a whole. He is not going to be the front runner in the end, and it sounds like he's not even trying to be the candidate,
but as a disenchanted Obama "supporter," who plans on voting for him anyway, I can't think of a better gift than to have anybody but Romney on the Republican ticket.
I don't think Hero or even Auraptor could say with a straight face that Cain would not implode in a general election, so I'm assuming they're giggling like schoolgirls when they laud this man.
** since intent does matter, Cain may have been suggesting that China was looking to develop nuclear powered aircraft carriers...just wanted to clear that up incase the issue was just in the delivery

There is no her. There is not one reported fact or allegation. We have a statement by ONE person, the one person that has come forward and said what happened...and that person is Herman Cain.
I'll take eyewitness testimony over NO testimony any day. Until you give me another witness there is only one story and that story is that nothing happened.

Well, let's see... we have two women - maybe more today - and at least one lawyer, and we have a settlement where one of the women was paid what Cain first described as an amount similar to "a normal severance package" - but which was then revealed to be a full year's salary (nice severance package!), and we have Republicans calling on Herman Cain to do away with the confidentiality agreements stopping his victims from coming clean about what really happened.
But you're right - there isn't a "her"; there are several.

There's nothing this committed media won't do to demonize Cain, or any front runner, in the GOP field.
Next thing you know, they'll be calling him a Socialist. Or a Muslim. Or a Kenyan. Or claiming that he wasn't born here. Yeah, they'll do ANYTHING to demonize a front runner, won't they? That darned Faux News!
Oh, and incidentally, Cain is now claiming that Rick Perry's campaign is behind this controversy. Are you claiming that Rick Perry is part of a "vast left-wing conspiracy"?

Cain says nothing on this matter, he's covering up. He clarifies something, he's "changing his story ", and or breaking the non disparagement clause , or some such....
Heck, I thought non-disclosure agreements were supposed to be binding on both sides. He wants to disparage his victims, they should be able to tell all.
Quote:
And of course, there's the classic Left wing claim... 'Cain is sooo stoopid, he makes Palin look smart.' Never mind his education and real world achievements, he's a conservative, and therefore, an idiot , by default.
I've yet to hear anyone make that claim. It's a well-known fact that NOBODY can make Palin appear smart.
Meanwhile, Cain really does not come across as a smart person, or one who is very informed when it comes to what's really going on in the world. Just today, he offered this rather startling admission of ignorance on China's nuclear capabilities:
Quote:
In an interview Monday, Cain said part of China's threat to the United States stems from its attempts to develop nuclear weapons -- even though China tested its first nuclear weaponin 1964.
"Yes, they're a military threat," Cain said on the PBS NewsHour, in response to a question from Judy Woodruff. "They've indicated that they're trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat."
So *I'M* not the one who's saying Cain's dumb. Cain's constant idiotic remarks and stupid "gaffes" are the ones saying he's dumb.

Whoops - now there's another one!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/02/herman-cain-sexual-harassment
_n_1072275.html
Meanwhile, Cain cancelled a press conference and tried to duck the press in Virginia today in an effort to try to avoid talking about his egregious past behavior.
Quote:
Separately, Chris Wilson, a former NRA staffer, told Oklahoma radio station KTOK that he witnessed Cain sexually harassing a woman at Virginia restaurant in the late 90s. Wilson said that while he could not discuss specifics of what happened, he believes if the woman were to talk about it "I think it'll be the end of his campaign."
Wilson confirmed the incident to Politico.
"It was very uncomfortable," he said.
Conservative radio host Steve Deace also told Politico that Cain said "awkward" and "inappropriate" things to his station's staff.
So I guess the association that Cain ran (the National Restaurant Association, not to be confused with the NRA) is part of this vast left-wing conspiracy, as well as conservative radio host Steve Deace.
Heck, maybe Cain's "awkward" and "inappropriate" comments were nothing more than the kinds of rape jokes John McCain likes to tell...

I think making inapropriate comments to females at work isn't as bad as rutting with your intern and then lying about it. A lot of men make slightly dirty comments. I don't like it when it happens but it isn't as bad as it could be. Do I want a guy who still does that being my president? Probably not, but maybe he's like other men and didn't get that he was being inapropriate. some men really don't get it. Maybe he hasn't had any more repremands about it since. I don't know enough about it to say one way or the other yet.

I have plenty of criticism with both what Clinton did, and then lying about it. It's the Left who turns a blind eye to it all, then shows pure hypocrisy by vilifying Cain for that which he HASN'T done.
You can try to twist this, and my views, any way you like, but you're only fooling yourself. Clinton had a history of philandering and lying. Cain has done none of it, and yet the media is crucifying him as if he were guilty. He's done nothing wrong, save for dare to challenge the great Obama. That alone appears to be enough of a 'crime' to convict a good man.

From the looks of things, Cain has quite a history in that department, too. I'm just curious why you think it was such a big deal when Clinton was doing it, but nothing at all when Cain was, or Gingrich, or any other Republican.

Thing is, you don't KNOW that Cain hasn't done any of this. Where: Anywhere
Why: Because nothing happened
How: Because he does not do those things

Would be fun to bring up both Raptor's and Hero's ardent defense of Cain as having done nothing wrong when the whole story (or stories) comes out.Quote:
Herman Cain may very well bounce back and remain a popular contender for the GOP presidential nomination, but the normal rules of politics would say that he has about 48 hours to get his campaign under control.
His fortunes have been bolstered as well by the way conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter have rushed to his defense. Limbaugh has sparked a familiar cry among tea partiers about "liberal media witch hunts." On Wednesday, Politico -- the news organization that broke the story -- reported that voters in Iowa aren't paying much attention: Cain still rides high there.
But no one, least of all the Cain forces, should believe he is getting this behind him. Far from it. The explosive way that a Washington lawyer has jumped into the middle of this episode, as he did Tuesday night when he called in to Anderson Cooper's CNN show, is throwing fat into the fire.
Joel P. Bennett, asserting he represents a woman who he says complained about Cain harassing her at the National Restaurant Association, told Cooper that his client wants to get her side of the story out. She is offended by Cain's proclamations that he was falsely accused and thinks he is lying.
At the moment, she has promised Bennett a copy of her original settlement with the restaurant association. Bennett probably will ask the association to release her from her confidentiality agreement so she can talk openly -- although she is reportedly still considering this request and could decide not to pursue a release. Even if she does try for a release and the restaurant group refuses, it seems probable that the contents of the settlement will find their way into the media. Leaks happen.
And at least one other accuser might be waiting in the wings: The New York Times reported Wednesday that the National Restaurant Association gave a second woman a full year's salary -- $35,000 -- as severance after she complained that Cain had behaved inappropriately toward her. A full year? That's a lot of money and suggests -- along with the Times' reporting of "heavy drinking" at the event in question -- that she may have a story to tell, too.
Once we see a real, live woman step forward and accuse a major presidential candidate of sexual harassment and lying, it will almost certainly become a circus with Cain smack in the middle of it. It may become unfair -- but it also can be politically lethal. Clarence Thomas survived because he was smart, tough and ready to take on his accusers. Cain so far has shown none of that.
Moreover, the sexual harassment story is only one of the possible scandals brewing around Cain. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported this week that a private corporation, set up by Cain's chief of staff, has given the Cain campaign some $40,000 in goods and services. The report has been overshadowed, but it won't go away: If that happened, those gifts could be violations of the law. The longer the sexual harassment controversy continues, the more the press is likely to dig in elsewhere.
So far, the greatest source of concern among some conservatives is how inept Cain and his team have been in responding. Politico gave them 10 days to prepare before going public on the restaurant association allegations, and yet Cain still didn't have his facts and story straight. For political pros, two days of conflicting accounts were painful to watch.
All of which is to say that Cain is now under enormous time pressure to get his campaign under control. He needs to put an end to the sex controversy and do it fast. If he permits this fire to rage through the weekend and into next week, he could well be toast.
What should he do? It may seem a hard call, but it isn't really. He should announce that he would be fine with the restaurant association releasing

Mike; too bad they are incapable of coming up with new material, isn't it? At least then they'd be amusing...sort of!
The Cain thing is being stretched out to a ridiculous degree. If nothing else, he's showing quite clearly his inappropriateness in running for President. If he can't handle THIS, how could he handle anything actually important? He's been changing his story faster than Romney switches sides on an issue (which we EXPECT from politicians); he's gonna look like even more of a buffoon when the facts finally come out. Which is appropriate.
As for not being accused of groping; time will tell. I'm putting my money on it coming out eventually.

Herman Cain accuser stands by complaint, won't go public
The lawyer for one of the woman who received a financial settlement after alleging sexual harassment by Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain when he was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s said Friday that the woman stands by her allegations but is choosing not to discuss them publicly.
The woman "sees no value in revisiting" the complaint, attorney Joel Bennett said, saying the woman and her husband feel it would be "extremely painful to do so."
"My client stands by the complaint that she made," said Bennett, adding that "she would disagree with the statement's [Cain has] made concerning her complaint."
"She made a complaint in good faith about a series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances from the CEO," he said.Bennett did not provide details of the allegations but did say that multiple incidents took place "over a period of time at least a month or two."
Cain has flatly denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and complained of a "witch hunt" against him. In response to the statement, Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon said, "We look forward to focusing our attention on the real issues impacting this country -- like fixing this broken economy and putting Americans back to work through our 9-9-9 Plan, as well as strengthening national security."
Bennett said the woman is not interested in "exposing herself personally...she prefers her privacy and not to be a public figure." He said she appreciates the media and public respecting her privacy.
Bennett represents one of two woman who settled with Cain over alleged sexual misconduct; the Associated Press reported that a third woman has also accused him of improper conduct. According to a report by the New York Times, Bennett's client received settlement of $35,000, though Bennett is not discussing the amount other than to say "it was a monetary settlement.
Cain has given conflicting accounts of his knowledge of the accusations and the settlements, which he first said he was unaware of before discussing them specifically.
Bennett told CBS News earlier that Cain did not sign the initial settlement agreement, and that it's conceivable that Cain didn't even know about it. He repeated that assertion Friday afternoon.
Still, he said "Mr. Cain knows the incidents that were alleged," saying they involved "very specific instances."
"If he chooses not to remember or not acknowledge those, that's his issue," he said. Bennett said the woman was married at the time of the incident, and remains married today.
The National Restaurant Association said in a statement released as Bennett was speaking that it "can confirm that more than a decade ago, in July 1999, Mr. Bennett's client filed a formal internal complaint, in accordance with the Association's existing policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. Mr. Herman Cain disputed the allegations in the complaint. The Association and Mr. Bennett's client subsequently entered into an agreement to resolve the matter, without any admission of liability. Mr. Cain was not a party to that agreement. The agreement contains mutual confidentiality obligations."
The statement went on to say that the restaurant association had agreed to waive the confidentiality provisions if the woman wanted to discuss the allegations. Bennett said he and his client "have not asked them to lift it beyond making this statement." He also expressed concern about violating "confidentiality and non-disparagement" provisions in the agreement.

Another day, another woman steps forward.
Meanwhile, Cain keeps "remembering" details of things he says never happened, and keeps trying to parse words ("We had an *agreement*, but I didn't know it was a *settlement*"; "If she got anything, it wasn't much."; "She got a standard severance package... of two or three months salary." - turns out one woman got a full year's salary - hardly a "standard" severance package for a staffer)
Hey, it sounds like Cain is just really bad at picking up women, and thinks that if you just grab a woman's head and pull it towards your crotch, she'll get an idea what you want.

I also note that Cain's campaign claims that this latest accuser has had cases filed against her claiming medical fraud, and they act like that alone is "proof". What they miss is that, by their own standard of "proof" - or their implication that since she's had allegations made against her, there MUST be something there - Cain is confirming what all his accusers have said. Meanwhile Cain, who says he doesn't really believe there's racism anymore, has made references to "lynching", claimed that it's because he's black, blamed "brainwashed" blacks and "the Democrat plantation", and is now crying about some secretive vast left-wing conspiracy being carried out by "The Machine". And of course he says he has no evidence or proof of any of this.

I DO like that smile. And there's a kind of look in the eyes...
But I do think the other one makes a better bumper sticker.
Oh, the other one definitely makes the better bumper sticker. And the way it's worded, I've no doubt that some of the tea-baggers would actually proudly put it on their cars, completely oblivious to the joke!

'Xackly! You could paste it on your car and drive to an Orange County Tea-Bagger convention, infiltrate and subvert, and they'd never figure you anything but a loyal member.
But if you drove thru a liberal neighborhood on the way, they'd get it.

May have been said already but....
The more Cain denies that whatever happened didn't...
The more pissed the women that it happened TO will be. The slow drip-drip-drip of ongoing revelations from these angry women, who will refuse to see their sisters taken down individually, will torpedo Cain.
This really IS like Clarence Thomas, but the outcome will be different. Women of that time (that's me) remember Anita Hill being pilloried by the right for daring to speak the embarrassing truth. But people then- black and white- were so caught up with racial politics they couldn't see that Clarence Thomas was a buffoon. Thomas himself has taught many people (blacks included) to look beyond race. Heh.

Good point, Sig, about the other women. That may have been at least partly behind this "fourth woman" coming forward, so there may be more to come. Hopefully; if he gets buried under enough of them, and enough verifiable FACTS...oh, no, wait, I don't WANT the ultra-righties to give up on him, I want him NOMINATED! That would be SO much fun, what with his ignorance, ego and stumble-ability.
Seriously, tho', this is pretty disgusting. Apparently the name of the second woman who got a settlement is known by the media now, so HER life will probably become hell. That's a shame--Anita Hill went through quite enough, and now other women's lives will be affected. Damn these bastards. I would say something along the lines of "MEN!", but I know they don't represent you guys. It's just that once some men get a bit of power, it seems like the first thing their "brains" turn to is how to use it to get sex! And all too often, they succeed.
I hope they bring him down big time. That smirk makes me sick; thank gawd he's not running that ad here, so it only pops up in clips from pundits. So many people in this country are SO fucked up--and I don't mean him, he's only one example of many that have always existed--I mean the righties who are SO screwed up they'd nominate a dick (double entendre intentional).
Didja get the "brother from another mother" to the Koch's? And the APPLAUSE that it received? It all just makes me wnat to

And the Buffoon strikes again...
I just got to see this creepy sleazebag in person, complete with kinda subduded pimp-daddy threads, at a local diner populated by low browed, slack jawed, rightwingnuts who'd make our own Rappy feel at home - seriously, I felt the desperate need to take a goddamn BATH upon my return just from being that close to them, and the whole thing put me of a mind of one of them sleazy religious revivals run by some shyster with that cult of personality goin on, yeah, he has charisma up close and in person - but it's the kind where once you get some time, distance and space you kinda feel the urge to puke, there's a really, REALLY heavy "sleaze factor" which comes along with it - not that any of the (entirely white, mind you) adoring crowd of hate-radio koolaid chuggers seemed to notice or care but what do they ever care for reality anyway, right ?
I give him about two points over even me on the personal charisma thing since mine is certainly more understated, minus a couple on fashion sense, and then it goes into negative numbers quickly on policy and morality - stupidass ripoff tax plan aside, you do NOT want this guy in office - imagine a right-wingnut version of Clinton with suppressed race issues going on underneath the surface cause at one point he was kinda grinding his teeth upon noting ZERO people in the crowd who weren't righty-whitey wingnuts, all the more laughable to me being that he isn't, and they don't seem to REALLY care, so much as mindless obediance to "the cause" in a fashion straight out of the late 1930's.
He's a charlatan, a fraud, a smooth talking slime with a hefty heap on personal charisma and charm who has essentially nothing behind it but the iron fist of the same despotic fuckers behind Bush and Cheney - so essentially a right wing Clinton, only without Clintons intellect or ability.
No Sale.

I'm kinda surprised you stuck around as long a you did, Frem! Did you catch his referring to himself with regard to the Koch brothers as "the brother from another mother"? He doesn't see any problem with that...what's that tell you?
NOW he's in trouble for calling Pelosi "Princess Pelosi" (not for the first time, according to reports). He finds nothing wrong in this; when asked why he's apologizing for saying it, his response was "So you guys will stop asking me about it". The man is, among many other things, totally clueless.
I don't think about him much and wish the news would shut up about him. He's ONLY in it, like Palin, to sell books and speaking tours, and that will become obvious soon enough.
What's truly sad is how the audience boooed even the QUESTION at the debate, and then cheered lustily at his "I'm a victim" answer. Something is truly wrong with the mentality of the right these days, and it's incredibly sad to see.

Maybe this helps explain why Republicans are sticking by Cain, despite everything:Quote:
Meghan McCain fascinatingly characterized the Republican primaries as akin to dating in that the electorate keeps having one fling after another in the hopes of avoiding the seemingly inevitable marriage to the boringly dependable Mitt Romney. Herman Cain has lasted too long to be called a fling, but the GOP’s ardor for him has blinded it to his obvious ineptness in almost every aspect on which you’d test a candidate (foreign policy, domestic affairs, likeliness to seduce voters outside the party, ability to deal with the media microscope, ability to cope with scandal). The only aspect that he does well is exude charisma, as if he’s the kid who doesn’t study but somehow charms the teacher into passing him.
The party’s love for him has not cooled despite a sexual harassment scandal he continues to handle poorly. (Justin Bieber is handling his nascent paternity scandal with more forthrightness, directness and crisis management wisdom than Cain did.) Cain seems to be surviving the scandal because the GOP truly likes him and because the party really has nowhere else to go but to Romney and because this is a rather tepid scandal compared to what we’ve grown used to from politicians (he abused power but there’s not even allegations of actual sex, so for most people it doesn’t really matter). But there’s also something else. The GOP’s relationship with Cain is more psychologically important than its relationship with any other candidate because Cain is that special thing: the party’s cool new Black friend. You ever see white people in the beginning stage of latching on to a new Black friend? They’re more excited because it’s something new and cool, a font of new thoughts and experiences. This isn’t simply racial: its the thrill of making a connection with someone unlike you who opens you up to new things, like a woman with a new gay friend.
Cain has to survive his still metastasizing sex harassment scandal and his many gaffes and his clear lack of competence, experience and serious intellect because the GOP is so excited about him that they are refusing to really kick the tires (or admit to themselves that when they kick the tires they prove flat). Because they know they need him. See, Cain feeds the myth that racism is over.
Some Obama critics feel they have been wrongly painted as racist for the crime of opposing Obama. Some of their critique has been racist, some has been reasonable, some has been unreasonable but what would be leveled at any Democrat. Either way, Cain offers absolution and liberation from feeling like a racist. For how can the party be racist if there’s a Black frontrunner? I think many in the party genuinely like him and are won over by his chutzpah and respect his journey from Morehouse to CEO. Fair enough. But the ascension of Cain does not prove that racism is over. Just because the party has a cool, new Black friend it’s excited about, doesn’t erase decades of condescending opinions and harmful policies toward Blacks.
Alas Cain, in particular, is not the best person on which to hang your proof that your party isn’t racist. A Black man who denies that racism has an impact on today’s world gives great comfort to people who wish for the race conversation, as opposed to racism, to be over. A Black man who thinks if you don’t have a job, it’s your fault gives comfort to those on one side of the class war. A Black man who wraps himself in minstrelish tropes, like wanting the Secret Service to call him Cornbread and breaking into song at campaign events, surely gives comfort to those who are still not comfortable seeing Blacks as Alpha men. A Black man who can lead in the polls for weeks without seriously convincing anyone that he’s going to win is like having your chocolate and not getting fat. Or getting the walk-on-the-wild-side thrill of dating a Black guy without worrying that you’ll ever be pressured to marry him.
Even if he’s

Well, color ain't got shit to do with it, hell I didn't even KNOW his ancestry till folks started makin such an issue of it, and the wingnut drones are such tools that they'd cheeringly support a fuckin Platypus if their masters told em to so I don't see why exactly it matters save for the fact that the GOP is indeed playing him for a token just as they do women since the ACTIONS of their party when it comes to legislation speak loud and clear and so I see him as in a fashion as ridiculous as an afro-american Klan member...
Mostly I wanted to see him up close personally since the opportunity was right there and I had homefield advantage, just like I did with McCain, only he pales even in comparison to McCains self-damning stupidity in lauding Nuclear Power to folks who were still pissed off about Fermi - twas only that the masters ordered it that got him any crowd at all around here.

Mike,
It's astonishing to me what's happened here, culturally. We're used to politicians bullshitting their way through interviews, forever evading question after question. It makes us mad, but it doesn't make us think, "This guy is a sad, incompetent fool." Being a good bullshitter can even be construed as part of a politician's stock in trade.
But this? This isn't even bullshitting. This is simply failure. It's anxiety and confusion and humiliation. Watching him shift in his seat, move his water bottle around as he tries to come up with SOMETHING to say is painful.
How did we get here? People have already spent a ton of money on getting this man elected, and will surely be spending several tons more before he's done. What were THEY thinking? Has the right's blanket disrespect for government *per se* blinded them to the need for their candidate to have the slightest clue what the hell is going on in the world? Or have they become so comfortable with the corruption of our system that they don't even worry about their candidate's putative electability--only his willingness to do their will?

Put it this way: If I ever walked out of a job interview after a performance like that, I'd drive away *KNOWING* there was no way in hell I was getting the job, and I'd be downright scared and embarrassed if I *did* get the offer after such a horrific performance.

"A special investigation is under way by the RNC legal dept. regarding tainted water bottles being supplied to Republican candidates during their debates and interviews. Initial lab tests are showing that a brain retardent chemical has been stealthily introduced into the candidates' water supplies. Preliminary records show most of the the suspect water came from a distributorship owned by Al Gore's second cousin Arlo Terwilliger. Republicans who have been stricken, including Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Bachmann, and others are rapidly losing brain cells that affect memory and intelligence, and there doesn't seem to be any cure to stop or control the disease. The RNC Chair, Mr. Reeces Pieces, said that he is personally going to look into this situation as soon as he graduates 6th grade, and advises those remaining unafflicted candidates to drink Yoo Hoo until the crisis passes."

Not sure if I'd prefer someone else, but I'd sure prefer the Obama that ran for President back in '07-'08. Wonder what ever happened to that guy...

But you've got a great point - we NEED better Republican candidates. The "establishment" Republicans won't have anything to do with Ron Paul or Jon Huntsman, because they say crazy-loopy things like "We have to work with the Democrats to find solutions."
They say that compromise is an agreement that leaves no one happy, and if that's the case, then Romney will be the nominee.

Oh, Jim's up and around--he went to work. Two skinned knees, two skinned hands and a huge cut on the bridge of his nose...little things like that will never stop him! He's one of "those"... yeah, it'll take a while to heal, he's got so many scrapes and cuts--he said it doesn't really hurt, he's just stiff all over. No surprise there! I'm pretty used to this; he tends to come home with road rash on a fairly regular basis, whether he trips himself running in the hills or falls off his bicycle...I've long since given up trying to dissuade him, but I KNEW running with them up on the Divide on leash pretty much guaranteed disaster. Told him so, too, when he decided to do it, but, well, you know..."MEN!"
Tashi ended up damaging BOTH of us in less than 24 hours. Choey and I took the dogs out to the reclamation ponds...they're great for sulkying, gravel path winding in and out of them, good workout for the dogs. I carry water, and the water bag was empty. So I'm standing at the open door filling it, bent over, making sure to block the dogs, and damned if he didn't JUMP OVER ME! This is a dog who doesn't push himself, only jumps for dinner, and at that just once or twice in excitement, and let's poor Kochak, at ten pounds lighter, do the majority of the pulling on the sulky.
The ponds are next to a cow pasture. Yup, there he went, like a bat out of hell, after the cows. I had to scramble over a fence after him, which was stupid because there's no way I can catch him and he won't come back until he's tired, hot, thirsty and/or bored, but I did it anyway. Scraped myself going over and (when he was either tired, hot, thirsty and/or bored) bringing him back, so I've got my own "war wounds". AND hurt my back...
Not only that, but one of them stole an ENTIRE CAKE last night (!!). It was one of those sale "day-old" cakes, and I thought I'd put it where they couldn't get to it. Silly me. Found the plastic container on the dog bed in the Outback; Kochak has dabbled at her last two meals and Tashi has diahhrea, so they both had their share. I never got a bite.
I keep trying to remember why I wanted huskies...
I agree wholeheartedly, Riona: Quote:
Yup. On the other hand, they're not nearly as SCARY as Bush or McCain, who actually had a chance and who were and would have been a disaster if they got elected. What we've got now I'm thoroughly enjoying, it's the best comedy I've seen in ages, and the late-night guys, and Stewart and Colbert, should send in donations, they've given them so much material! I saw a clip of a SNL skit supposedly lampooning Cain's Libya idiocy...but it wasn't nearly as funny as when Cain himself did it. Some things you just can't improve on!
None of the Repubs are any good at this and so none of them have a chance
I say let'em come, give 'em every possible chance to talk; I don't have to listen, but they'll really help us defeat them next year!
It's a damned good thing nobody's paying attention to Huntsman. The more I hear from him, the more I respect him...as nominee I think he might actually scare me. But he'll never get nominated, thank gawd; to start, he's part of that Mormon "cult", and then he actually (gasp!) believes in science! Those are both death knells, thank goodness.
Maybe, MAYBE, as his last term, Obama will find that guy he said he was, or believed he was, or WAS, and get some shit done before he leaves office! I think what it is, is that the ACTUAL candidates are biding their time to 2016. I mean, anyone with half a brain doesn't want to be up on stage with those fruit baskets!

The dangers of chocolate for dogs tend to be greatly exaggerated. A full-sized dog like a Husky would have to eat something like one of those 16-oz giant-sized dark chocolate bars to be in any real danger. A little bit once in a great while isn't going to do any harm to them.
While I wouldn't necessarily *support* Huntsman, he's probably the Republican candidate most likely to get me to stay home on Election Day. I've got no real enthusiasm for Obama, and would only vote for him as a vote *against* any of the others. As far as Huntsman is concerned, I figure, "Meh - we could do a lot worse..."
Ron Paul? I'd actually vote for that crazy bastard.

It wasn't chocolate anyway, it was Dulce de Leche. I love the ice cream, so thought since it was cheap I'd try the cake. Wonder how it tasted?
