Okay, I made it "MOVIE" to avoid a Buffy discussion- we ALL know Buffy rules in the Vampire genre, and Twilight is just a soap, so here goes:

To me, Christopher Lee IS Dracula. So, the Hammer flicks are golden to me, Taste the Blood of Dracula, & Dracula AD 1972 being favourites.
Blacula freaked me as a kid in the movies, though.
Bela sadly made me laff.
Noseferautoo more so.
The Night Stalker's take breathed realism into the concept for me.
Grave of the Vampire was a surprisingly effective 1974 B flick.
I hardly remember the Frank Langella Dracula, so I guess it wasn't all that.
Fright Night was cool 80's hot chick R-rated kid stuff.
Francis Ford Coppolla's take wasn't much more than a pretty mess in the end, dude. IMO.
Tom Cruise was spooky, but it was a mission not so possible...
John Carpenter's Vampires was so not PC it was hilarious in spots...

So, what's top of the corpse-strewn-heap here? and what did I miss (prolly a lot)?

Lost Boys has always been a favorite of mine. They were brutal, violent, and evil, but still had that "Lets grab a beer together" quality.

JC's Vampires was was supposed to based on the book by the late John Steakley, who also wrote Armor (the best sci-fi book ever IMO). Other than parts of the first scene and a couple of character names the book was ignored. If you like vampires you should hunt down a copy and give it a read, then be disappointed that such a crappy movie was made from such great material.

You have a good list. Agree with you on Coppola's Dracula. What a great overall mess.
Not mentioning any of the Hammer vamp films(yes they rule) here is my list:

-Near Dark(1987) Good vampire film with a good share of the actors that starred in ALIENS.

-Nosferatu(1979) This remake by Werner Hezrog, and starring Klaus Kinski as the vamp is pretty remarkable. Very, very atmospheric. Some say it's a bit long, and slow but I think it just lets the viewer savor the scenery more.

-Vampire's Kiss(1989) Not much going on here accept a New York businessman played by Nic Cage who thinks he is becoming a vampire. It is often hilarious, and for those that dismiss Cage's acting abilities, watch and marvel. Over the top, and underrated.

-The Lost Boys(1987) It's hard to choose between my favorite 80's vampire film, but this is probably it. Why was this rated R again?
Fantastic cast and writing. "Party all night, sleep all day...it's fun to be a vampire"

-Vamp(1986) Not just a Grace Jones vehicle, this movie has some fun moments and the Blonde girl is just so cute.

-In search of Dracula(1975) One of my favorite vampire films. This documentary hosted by Christopher Lee is really absorbing. Filmed in real Transylvania, it tells you everything and more about vampire myths and legends. Perfect.

I thought Nicholas Cage was really good in Vampire's Kiss, I think he was supposed to be playing it over the top and he did a great job. I enjoyed that movie.

I actually like Bram Stoker's Dracula.
There I said it.
Okay, Keanu is a complete waste of space, the acting can be a bit wooden and Anthony Hopkins hams it up but Gary Oldman is great as Dracula. Not a classic by a long shot but likeable.

The Hammer films are easily the best but I must give a shout-out to Peter Cushing's Van Helsing as he was easily the equal of Christopher Lee's Dracula.

The Lost Boys is good fun and a great modern (for it's time) updating of vampires. The Grandpa steals the show with his great line near the end.

From Dusk Til Dawn is two movies in one. Both great. This is how to do a fun OTT movie.

Not exactly a bold claim. It was a big hit, made by one of the most respected directors ever. It scores above-average to very-good on most scales. IMDB viewers have it at 7.5 out of 10. OK, this is TV so it doesn't qualify...

There's a British TV series from the late 90s called "Ultraviolet" (NOTHING to do with the US film of the same name) about a team fighting our hemoglobin-craving friends (the show studiously avoids the V-word), played seriously.

Quite dark and depressing - mainly uses the bloodsuckers as a device for stories about less mythical horrors such as AIDS, abortion, child abuse, financial scams... Buffy it ain't.

Only 6 episodes, but there's a reasonably satisfying conclusion.

I made it because of the negative comments by ChrisIsAll and Oppyh. On re-reading the way I wrote it it does come across stronger than I intended. In my head when I wrote it I meant it in a light-hearted 'tongue-sticking-out' way.
You sometimes forget when typing that other folks aren't going to read it in the same way.

I don't know about depraved, but there was some foreign film about a vampire who'd been turned as a little girl, who then made friends with a little human boy or something, I've heard it's rather poignant.

And then there's the one where the vampires take full advantage of winter in Alaska (very little daylight).

If one was turned when little one would grow up emotionally even though one was still small. So depending how long she'd been a vampire I'd imagine that once her intellect were grown she wouldn't want to be friends with little ones anymore, but how many grownups would want to be her friends? That would be a perdicament.

Sounds like Let the Right One In, recently remade in the States as Let Me In. Unusually, both versions are good. Foreign version is slightly creepier.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

Not really someothing one could know. A lot of the maturation process relies on hormones and chemicals, which would likely not be present after one turned. Also, the brain is not fully developed until the early 20's, so if a child vampire stops growing, their brain would never fully develop.

But yeah, good movies, both versions.

Good point about hormones, so they'd be more like a child protegy with lots of knowledge than an adult stuck in a child's body? It makes an interesting thing to ponder.

Dracula Prince of Darkness....um the Anchor Bay non-anamorphic lifeless color timed version, or a new HD remaster? Hmmm...I wonder. It is announced for a UK release in March. I hope it hits American soil soon.

Let the Right One In is a real good movie. But I do not know if it is better to watch it in Swedish with sub-titles or dubbed into english.
I have watched it both ways and each way has its points.
Let Me In is pretty good too.

This doesn't qualify either because it was Canadian TV, but there was a show called "Forever Knight" about a vampire cop with a very guilty conscious. I thought Nick Knight was a bore, but his daddy, LaCroix, rocked!

Yeah, I think that'd be more likely. An incredible ammount of knowledge, but lacking in emotion maturity, and possibly higher-level reasoning.
