In the teaser on 'Trash' we see a nekkid Mal (I know, I know - ) and his tattoo. Does anybody know if that is a real tattoo on Nathan or just something added on Mal? Also, anybody have a decent pic of it? I can't find a decent screen cap, or any info on other boards or site about Nathan.

Tahnks!

Here are some earlier threads that might shed some light on this. Nobody really seems to know what it is. Nathan made an off-hand comment that sounds to me like a joke. Other than that I think it's safe to say that your guess is as good as anyone elses.

Thanks! I guess I didn't go far enough through the archives to find that. Sometimes I think a 'search' feature would help keep the number of repeated threads down a bit...

But thank you soo much for the info. at least now I know that is on Nathan, and helps me win the argument I was having.

Thanks again!!!

Has anyone asked about it at the cons? Just curious as sound isn't great and there haven't been transcripts for all typed out.

He was asked about it at Dragon*Con. I took quick notes at the Q&As and from what I wrote down it went like this:

- Could he explain his tattoo? He got it when he was 19, it was a peace symbol with Egyptian hieroglyphics (he said he likes ancient technologies) and now he regrets it. I think the lady that asked him the question said she'd gotten one and then gotten a bunch more, he said that yeah it tends to go one of two ways - you love it or you hate it.

(I only have my notes up at my LJ right now, here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/sdwolfpup/87179.html)

I'm surprised he actually answered the tattoo question. Sometimes tattoos are very personal, and the person doesn't want to discuss or tell about it. Interesting.

Another interesting thing is that when I first saw it on Firefly, I thought it was fake. It looked very black and dark, like fake Hollywood tats. I guess whoever the artist was that put it on him did a really good job with the black inks.

I've had the total opposite experience. Most people I've talked to love to explain their tattoos and show them off. I certainly don't mind talking about mine -- although, being on my shoulder and me not a one for tank tops, not many see it to ask.

The best tattoo story yet (in my opinion) was a waitress who had the name "Kevin" with three angels and a yellow rose tattooed around her ankle. Kevin, it turned out, was her brother, who died with his three friends in a car wreck. The three angels were for his friends, and the yellow rose was for friendship. I felt a little bad for asking and said as much, but the woman smiled and said she actually likes explaining her tattoo, as it keeps her brother's memory alive. It was incredibly sweet, and I really admire her for it.
