BUZZFEED.COM - Practically from the first moment that Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell announced their Kickstarter campaign for a Veronica Mars movie — and certainly after the project amassed over $2.5 million in 24 hours — people began wondering if the same could be done for another gone-before-its-time TV series.

Well at least he told us all to stfu for the next 3 years (at least). That's straight from the man himself. Not happening. So, no more theories about how if the stars align perfectly maybe blah blah. Wait 3 years then you can start theorizing again.

I don't think KS campaigns are allowed to run that long. I think it actually means we need to wait three years for the kickstarter to start.

I don't think we need a kickstarter for another movie. Do a kickstarter for an animated series that would lead to a movie in 2-3 years!!

Build the fan base first. And then it has to be made!

Based on his comments about doing an Avengers sequel I'd say he takes jobs for the money. He basically said he wasn't interested in making movies from other people's ideas. Then the cash dump truck rolled up and he had an exclusive contract. Granted he could have just been making those comments to increase the size of the dump truck but either way he was in it for the money.

Not that I blame the guy. He deserved to cash in on that one.

So long as the fans can't agree on what they'd be happy with and anything that could work with the actors, the time gap, and the storyline, we're probably not going to get anything.

And that's without factoring in the other obligations Joss has, and the possibility that, well... They might have good feelings about the show still, but, maybe after the movie they feel like that story is done. Wrapped it up, said what they wanted to.

They probably would not *have* to, though they could if needed for the story. If they can turn Andy into Gollum, how hard could it be to map younger faces onto the actors? They already do some of that, putting characters' faces on stunt-folk.

hey we've been out a-venturing for five to seven years with vaguely hinted at back and forth couple relationship drama that puts us back at square one and suddenly MYTH ARC again

Eh, why not. Do they have to explain it in the medium? Or make them look younger than they are?

I am of the mind if they offer us anything with new stories and the original actors, my attitude is going to be "just go with it."

Whatever's easiest is the most likely possibility for anything to get done.

I think Joss' and the actors obligations are a bigger hurdle. The fans agreeing on timeframe and whatnot is largely irrelevant.

The problem is that they can't advertise to the market very well if there are people who would hate any animated Firefly, people who want a reboot and want to ignore the movie, people who want a continuation... It's all contradictory. Every fan has an idea of what Firefly should be and what they want it to be, and they don't want to support alternative ideas. Fans want all or nothing, and the wide difference in opinion means that no one can be pleased. It's a losing scenario. The fandom already isn't that big, let alone if they gets divided over what they want.

Yep, and really, this is true for most, if not all franchise properties. Every fan thinks they know the best way to proceed - and most of them are wrong.

Which is why what the fans can agree on is irrelevent. If anything happens, itll be what Joss wants to happen, not something made to placate anyone. He has even said, specifically, that his job isn't to give the audience what they ask for - don't see that changing.

But lets face it, if more Firefly were made, 98% of those disagreeing fans will lap it up, whether it fits what they "want" or not.

Yeah I think it might be difficult to convince people to fund something that doesn't fit their vision, but when it comes to actually watching the final product I think most fans will cave. I just don't think a kickstarter campaign is going to be the way a new Firefly/Serenity/Whatever project gets funded anyway.

Yeah. For some things, its a great way to raise money, maybe bring some closure (Im hopefull of Shawn Ryans talk of a Terriers wrap-up movie, for instance). But it has to be pretty low-scale. A sci-fi epic isn't going to fly with crowdfunding.

Ok, the countdown starts now.........

Just think, he doesn't have time to even do a Dr. Horrible, much less a Firefly/Serenity follow up. I'm with Joss on this one, he needs the time to devote his skills completely to the project he loves most, and that is Firefly.

His current success will only serve to prove to the lunkheads at Fox that he knew exactly what to do with Firefly. Serenity, by Hollywood standards was a fail, but nobody but us knew the real talent that he is. The writing staff was just beginning to show the world what they were made of.

We've waited 10 years for our BDH, what's 3 more. A drop in the bucket. By then he will be more of a household name than ever before and studios will be lining up to distribute our beloved Firefly/Serenity in whatever form it takes then. If the studios see dollar signs, and if wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak................
