A Very Important Trailer
Thursday, December 2, 2004

Sorry, this has nothing to do with Firefly but everything to do with quality Sci-Fi. As many of you know, Doctor Who is returning next year. As a long standing fan, this is even more special to me than the Firefly revival. Today marked the first showing of any footage from the new series (due in Marchish) which you can see for yourself at http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho and I hope that you Firefly fans will tune in (or get copies if you're abroad).

For those of you who don't know, Doctor Who is the world's longest running sci-fi series, from 1963 to 1989, with a large number of spin off books, audios and revivals. This time, it's going to be a big budget series so no ropey effects but hopefully it's going to have the same heart as the original (or should I say hearts?)

So, yes, very excited. We now return you to our regularly scheduled Firefly ramblings.

QUICKSAND

VERY cool.... how come the American studios aren't smart enough to make a feature? They could make sequels from now until doomsday. Or at least until they run out of Bond ideas, for sure.

SIMONWHO

Well, technically there's nothing to stop there being a female Doctor but I think that as we've already encountered a match for the Doctor in Romana (I & II) that the exploration of a Time Lady should start there.

I agree Anon that the effects aren't the point of Doctor Who but modern audiences are much more demanding and won't accept too much substandard material. They don't have to blow you away but they should always be fairly convincing.

They really have a dream team of writers lined up and I'd be amazed if they blew it. But you never know, eh. On with the waiting.
