Frustration...and One Day Left
Thursday, December 16, 2004

On the upside...there's a mere 24hrs before all us teachers get two weeks worth of break.

The downside...it's not 24hrs later yet! I cannot begin to express my frustration toward my students right now! Like, I can hardly type it out with any clarity. My seniors, for example, have managed to read the Sheltered version of Hamlet and now I'm showing them the movie so hopefully they get the idea of what actually happens...and they're talking through almost the whole thing!! Tamade! These are the same students who last year started a petition to get me to teach Senior English this year!

I have so washed my hands of them. I'm done dealing with them. I'm done putting up with their shite! I just want them graduated and gone.

And at the same time I feel bad for saying that. They are good kids...most of the time. I like them as people. But I teach in a small town (small for Silicon Alley standards) and they all have known each other since they were in diapers together. I live an educational soap opera here!

I just need to keep my eyes on the prize, right? Two weeks off with my wife and time to relax and work on my bus or my Firefly story. I guess my other downer this week has been the sudden news of the closing of my only trusted VW mechanic and the end of VWTrends Magazine for whom I've written a few articles. Just a sad December.

The UO will be back...I promise. He's off having adventures while I'm here.

I have so much respect for you teachers. I was a substitute teacher for five months in New Mexico and I damn near had a nervous breakdown. Good luck and Happy Hollidays.
