POETS Day
Friday, January 28, 2005

I try to pop in on Fridays specifically for this, and some have taken it upon themselves to carry on the celebration in my absence.

And then there's those who haven't been around to hear the definition and are likely asking something like: "POET's Day? What the heck is that?"

It all started in the small town of Starbuck, Minnesota - yup, that's my home town, although not where the coffee comes from, sad to say. Dr. Mark Zempel - gem of a man - used to throw parties on Friday nights. My folks were always invited because my Mom worked with "Dr. Z" at the teeny 19-bed hospital in town. From what they've been willing to share, these were quite the shindigs in their day. Dad said once that it was a good thing they lived down the hill, just a couple of blocks from Zempel's and could walk home, because there's no way they should have been driving.

So, everybody hoist up a glass of really fresh wine, or your tasty beverage of choice - here's what it stands for:

We've carried on the tradition, as you may have seen! However, I had no idea that you were the one that started it. So shiny. 8-)
