Peking Noodle Parlor
Saturday, February 26, 2005

Yeah, this might sound completely daft, but I am soooo happy. For years and years I have had amazing memories of this obscure, yet historical Cantonese style restaurant in of all places, Butte, Montana. On rare occassions I've run into folks who have eaten there and we've all gotten this strange, faraway and mystical bliss in our eyes... it's like a dream, or de ja vu, or some kind of fanatical attachment to a film noir masterpiece.

Yes, the Peking Noodle Parlor. Unchanging, seedy, authentic (Butte's mining history had a 1/3 percentage of immigrant Chinese population at one time), and indelibley, artistically delicious.

What am I ranting about? Here I am living in Washington State and I have been giving the raves for this *certain special Chinese noodle parlor* to my husband for years... and I finally googled it up. Found it! Next time we travel over to visit the folks I'm dragging us to "the big pit" of Butte. It's also the site of the Mai Wah Society http://www.maiwah.org which chronicles the history of the Chinese in Montana... really neat stuff. Yep, I feel this influence deeply in Firefly (being a psi-phi and history buff).

Ehg, exiled to Butte. It's like a David Lynch movie. Oh wait, he's from Montana. Well, there you go.
Reminds of a quote of his that reminds of the Greyhound Bus terminal in Butte (that was a very strange night on a very long road trip):

"To me a mystery is like a magnet. Whenever there is something that's unknown, it has a pull to it. For instance, if you were in a room and there was a doorway open and stairs going down and the light just fell away, you didn't even see the bottom, where the stairs ended; you'd be very much tempted to go down there." -- Lynch

Oh, and as for noodle parlors, there was some hand eatin' chicken in the new one. That count?

David Larrabee was going to be exiled to Larrabee Copper in Butte Montana, because of Sabrina... But I believe Butte was only mentiond in the "old Sabrina".

Ahh, yes. Sabrina. Still, gotta watch the movie again to find out where noodle parlors/&/or Butte comes into play. Clues?

Hmm, I'm not getting the reference. Then again, I don't have anything but some few rather odd recollections (sp?) about Butte anyway.
