What the heck is it about this show?
Saturday, April 23, 2005

It won't go away. Why won't this attraction fade? Sure, there's the expected spike in interest when a DVD comes out, or a movie date has been announced. I get that. But what's the deal? I don't see myself as a 'fanatic' of a t.v show/movie, not generally. I know some folks like to wear their heart on their sleeve for such things, which is fine. But for me, this is a new kind of obsession. I don't buy T-Shirts w/ vague meanings that only true fans would understand. I don't go to Sci-Fi conventions just to sit and listen to ( and actually meet? ) stars of t.v. or movies. And yet, here I am. I've bought shirts, gone to conventions, am addicted to message boards, buying extra DVDs just so as I can loan a set and still have one w/ me at all times.

Might be I'm working too hard....or something. Yeah, that's it.

I have the same "problem". But since there a far worse addictions on this world I am happy that it is just this great tv show with the cutest, wildest mixed and most dedicated fanbase I've ever seen.

SHINYMOM

It's the same for me. I go to sleep to a Firefly episode, wake up with the theme song in my head, spend a few minutes every morning checking in here. I have the mp3's on my iPod and listen all the way to work. Can't do too much at work because I teach, but sometimes I get online on my prep or pull out the iPod to listen to while I grade papers. I've bought sweatshirts and t-shirts, went to Wondercon, keep checking to see if Joss et al will be at the San Diego Comic con, read loads of fan fiction, am writing one, post here, check out other sites--all this since after Christmas. Don't understand it and wouldn't change a thing.

NITEFALLS

I understand completely. My friend tried to get me into X-Men, another foisted mangas on me, and I was even a fan of Buffy and Angel...but nothing like this Firefly thing. There's just something about it. Unexplainable.

yeah i'm finding myself doing strange things i wouldn't do - i've never written on message boards or gone into chat rooms - in fact i have now nearly lost a days work just wandering around the net - finally satisfied that Joss is a god, firefly is a work of art and that i WILL be in Leicester Square (LONDON) the first time the film shows
