First Blog (A New Beginning)

So, am I to understand that I have blog privilages? Can I write about anything? Or do they have to be about Firefly? If I'm doing something wrong, someone please let me know.. because I plan on using this to blow of some serious steam. I've started other blogs in other services, and they just didn't work out.

Okay... biggest stress in my life... puppy beagle. Why? Well, because it's a puppy beagle. I may be setting myself up to be a real jerk to you guys, but I don't like the puppy, and I don't want it. I'm not a dog person by any means, and this puppy has disrupted my life.

'Why did you get the puppy' you ask? Well, my fiance really wanted the puppy, and I thought it would be fun to have... until this one word called 'housebreaking' came to my vocabulary.

It's been almost 3 weeks now, and I'm not sure if I've made any real progress. I keep sayng 'I' because my fiance works 12 hour shifts (she's a nurse) and ...as it turns out, I'm STUCK with taking care of this dog... and I know NOTHING about training dogs.

Early last week I broke down. Puppy was wreaking havoc, and I couldn't take it. I called Fiance at work, and she calmed me down, and said that it can ONLY get better from here. Since then... it's been up and down.

Puppy Kindergarten didn't really work. I know I'm doing something wrong in raising her. In any case, new classes are starting, so we'll see how these go.

Whew... blew off a lot of steam there.

Thanks for listening.

1) Crate training- great idea.

2) Are you feeding set amounts at certain times, or free choice? Puppies usually have to go to the bathroom shortly after eating, so if you do meals and take him out after he's eaten it should help.

3) Why on earth did you get a beagle? Aside from their black market value, they are really hard to deal with, and VERY vocal. But I guess it's too late on that score, eh?

STARRBABY

I feel your pain. If you'll check out my blogs, you'll see that I've had "pupppy issues". Housetraining, however has not been one of the problems. Can I give some unasked for advice?

Get a crate that is big enough for the puppy, but small enough that if it goes potty it has to lie it in. When you aren't in direct contact with the puppy keep him in there. He won't go if he has to lie in it. Then, create a schedule for taking him out like every 3 hours. When he goes out Tell him he's good, pet him, and give him a treat. Worked like a charm for us.

Good luck!!

The main thing is: you are the boss. The dog must know that. If it thinks it could be boss then it will walk all over you. You must have a set of absolute rules and keep them otherwise you'll be at this stage for a loooooong time. And don't let you fiance let the dog break the rules either.

Actually, MontanaGirl is the expert here, we should bring her in as your pro Doggie Doctor.

BTW, next Sunday, there will be a new dog at my parent's house. I'll let you know if it causes them similar grief.

You don't like the puppy?!?!

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!! ONE YEAR!!!

;)

Seriously though, getting a puppy to do anything you want them to is rather difficult. Hang in there, all will be well and good with the world soon :)
