Well...feeling a little contemplative tonight
Wednesday, June 29, 2005

I have another birthday in 2 days. I'm turning 34. It's kind of refreshing LOL..I thought I was already 34, my wife had to remind me..Foggenheimers setting in already me thinks.

I find myself looking back on what I've experienced over the years. I've had my ups and downs. Little bumps in the road always seem to pop up without any warning hehe. I seem to keep carrying on, but never seem to find enough time to enjoy it. Ya know what I mean? I spend 2300 hours a year at work, away from home in an office or in the field. Thats almost half my waking life LOL.

My wife is going to school to change careers completely and I'm still trying to find that elusive feeling of Job satisfaction and perhaps life satisfaction. Is it possible to find life satisfaction before you're too old to enjoy it? Do you have to be wheeled into a nursing home to wile away your last days and reminisce on what was, before you become aware of how much you enjoyed living?

I have a few friends that are in Iraq and abroad. 1 that nearly died and 1 that was a near miss while over there. It really rang home how finite life is. How easy it is to take it for granted. How easy it is to squander it.

I've made a promise to myself that I won't wait for life to pass me by completely without at least taking a moment now and then to enjoy it. Hopefully, if there is a God or higher power out there, they will allow me enough time on this fair earth to absorb as much as I can

So I seek the country setting again this weekend. The brief moments of heat lightning. The glow of Fireflys as they flit about granting me a little bit of Serenity. Perhaps I will even partake of some Mudder's Milk (or fine wine..whichever is easier to obtain )

To all my Browncoat friends:

Enjoy tonight. Enjoy the Holiday that is coming for those of us in the US. Enjoy the tranquility wherever you can find it.

I came across this neat little song by Alan Jackson. It was fitting I felt :

Enjoy

Remember When

Remember when I was young and so were you
And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, and it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty something seemed so old
Now lookin' back, it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when

Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

Peace!
Connor
