I just don't get it.

I am really frustrated right now(like many of you Im sure)about Serenity's theater intake and I know its one more weekend away from gettin pulled from theaters. I know whats happening though and its the same thing that happened to the show...its not getting enough time. Its only been out like twenty days or something and that just isnt enough time. I guess all I can hope for now is that it gets at least 40 mil in the theaters but Im sceptical that thats even gonna happen. If any of you can give some hope it would be really appreaciated.

SEVEREN

I never really considered the name being a problem but I do know I had to explain what exactly Serenity was alot so I guess it could be somewhat of an issue but I dont think anybody heard there was a movie called Serenity and was like...SERENITY? THAT DOESNT SOUND GOOD AT ALL. I DONT CARE IF I DONT KNOW WHATS ITS ABOUT THAT TITLE IS JUST HORRIBLE...no i dont think this was the case but I also accept the fact that the title doesnt implicate anything science fiction at all.

P.S. ItsaWash, you shouldnt worry about me flaying you alive...Im more likely to just shoot you. J/K!

I think the reason the movie didn't reach a wide audience is that it didn't really have an obvious "hook." All I knew about it beforehand from seeing the commercials was there was a freaky girl hanging on the ceiling. Had no idea it had anything to do with "Firefly." Just looked like random sci-fi movie number 4702.

I'm sure lots of other ignorant people like myself felt the same way when they saw the promos.

P.S. Sorry my post sounded like I didn't like Serenity and thought it was a 12-step movie! I was talking about the NAME, not the actual BDM. I freakin' loved Serenity the movie, just not the name or the previews. Please don't flay me alive. Thank you.

I think it's the name and the previews that tended to keep folks away. Serenity just seems like a 12-step thing, nowhere near a good sci-fi romp. Who wants an AA sci-fi piece, after all? (Well---maybe I do want an AA sci-fi, but that's just me.) And don't get me wrong, I LOVED the previews-ate 'em up, but for the un-initiated, the non-FF fans, the previews just seemed disjointed and non-attendtion grabbing. Summer's lovely and flexible and all in previews, but why was she kicking astral butt and why would the average person coughing up $8/per shell out their dough for something that resembled a "B" movie like Ice Pirates? Bust my chops if you must, and I'm expecting it, truly, but this topic made me say my piece and I'm sticking to it. Long live Firefly anyway. And more BDM's will see me and mine ponying up on opening night no matter what the previews look like.

I feel pretty opposite about that. Ya there is a big sci fi base, but definitely not where I live. Star Wars, Star Trek, and all those traditional shows are definitely frowned upon, and considered "geeky" or whatever. So my shirt, with the name Serenity actually cathes the attention of non sci fi fans, and sci fi fans alike (because an hardcore sci fi fan should know about Firefly and Serenity) Serenity doesn't sound like a typical sci fi film, however it doesn't sound like a chick flick either, esp with the logo on it. I think its a great title, not to long like Pirates of the Caribean, or dorky like Fellowship of the Ring (sorry lotr fans, love the movie, not the title) Its kinda intriguing, almost mysterious I think, atleast thats what I first thought.

You see, I feel the exact opposite. When I heard the name Serenity (Never hearing of Firefly) I was very entreged. The name is what partly drove me to go see it.

You see, A lot of people dont realy like Sci-Fi as mush as a regular movie. So by having the name Serenity it draws in alot more non sci-fi people, As well as all the sci-fi goers. And ALL the flans knew what it was as soon as they heard the title!

So i think the title brings in more sales in the long run.
