Checking out Buffy for the first time...

The only Joss Whedon show I ever got into was Firefly. I had friends, who loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I’d caught a few episodes, including the final ones, but it was never a show that I made an effort to watch. I did watch more of Angel, but I didn’t start until the middle of the second to last season.

I say this because a friend at work has every season on DVDs and he is letting me borrow them. So, I’m starting with season one and watched a few episodes while doing some work. Wow… I'm very impressed. But what impressed me the most is the difference between the season 1 characters and the final episode characters. Whedon really did a great job developing these characters. Like I said, the only episodes of Buffy I ever saw we’re near the end of the run. So to start seeing them so… green, really made me appreciate their change. Makes me almost sad to think what kind of development our Big Damn Heroes from Firefly could have gone through.

Either way, I just finished the first DVD of Season 1 and I’m hooked. And just like how, Mal kicking Crow into the engine got me really into Firefly, the giant praying mantis saying " eeny-meeny-miney-moe " to choose her victim snagged me onto the Buffy verse. It’s the small details that I enjoying noticing. I laughed my head off on that scene.

I’m going to enjoy checking out the Buffy series.

Oh, Prophecy Girl was a heartbreaker, but it ain't nothing when you get to the end of Season Two.

I agree with Cub, Season Three is the penultimate Buffy season.

hey! me too! my friend and i have been trading ff for buffy. i'm due to start the third season soon.

i wasn't impressed at all with the first season though. but by the end of second i was a happy camper!

And then season 3 is even better. That cast for season 3 still just blows my mind. The writers, actors, everyone was just at the top of their game. TV doesn't get much better than season 3 of Buffy.

In fact, Buffy itself couldn't top it.
