To promote the Big Damn Movie, Joss Whedon and Summer Glau filmed a series of short video clips, the River Tam Sessions, to be released as viral marketing. Each is only one or two minutes long and they can be found here: http://www.session416.com. They purport to be security footage of a series of “sessions” between River and a doctor at the Academy. They’re fun and fascinating to watch. Joss also wrote a three-issue series of “Serenity” comic books that were released over the summer before the BDM premiered. They bridge the gap between the series and the movie, and read like a lost episode of the series. It may be difficult/impossible to find the individual issues at this point, but they’ve been collected into a single graphic novel style trade paperback Dark Horse is releasing, I believe, January 25. And speaking of “lost episodes,” you can find an unfilmed “Firefly” shooting script, "Dead or Alive," here on FFF.net at http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45.
