Two days to Bryn Mawr Browncoat Shindig
Thursday, February 9, 2006

Picked up nametags for the Shindig Saturday night at the Bryn Mawr theater. Acme didn't have them but Office Depot did. I even picked up ones with gold trim that almost look brown. :)

I found a guy who had once come to one of our second edition D&D games online and convinced him to come as well. He hasn't yet gotten into Firefly or Serenity, but once he hits the movie he might be a new recruit.

Upon further reflection, I actually recall Out of Gas way back from when it was originally aired! I coulda sworn I had never seen it before. I DO remember being at a dinner party at my mom's and my dad was watching Firefly (trying to get away from the hens). I remember getting the whole western theme but was slightly turned off by it. Know how I remember? I turned on the commentary and they mentioned the adrenaline shot. Then BAM, it hit me! I had that same conversation with my father as we watched Firefly!

I know, I know, it was a complete Firefly moment, but it kinda warmed the cockles to know that I actually DID see it first time out.

HERA

I had a similar experience, Kaele. I watched absolutely no TV in 2002. Nada. Zip. Life was very, um, compressed at that time. Anyway, I remember the one scene very vividly. It was from Serenity, so it was in December, I guess. I remember Mal walking into Inara's shuttle when she was offering Simon the medical supplies before he and River were to be dumped on Whitefall. I think I watched for 3 or 4 sentences ("Thought you were leaving anyhow?"), but it stuck in my head, obviously. I remember thinking "Who's this assh*le?. What's got up his butt? Hmm, seems to be some sort of tension between him and this very pretty dark-haired woman (astute, wasn't I?)." I think I turned the TV off at that point and left the house. If only I had watched a few more minutes, I might have had the honour of being a Browncoat all these years.

I remember after I saw Serenity in the theatre and purchased the DVD set of the series, when that scene came up, I thought "Well. I'm a dummy."

But, in retrospect, it probably wouldn't have made a difference. TV wasn't doable. Sigh.
