wish i could write fanfic
Wednesday, April 7, 2004

They are so amazing! I haven't read a fanfic that I didn't like, sure some I wouldn't have ever imagined I would read, but I liked them. You guys have incredible talent and that deserves to be liked. Every time I try to write something, it sucks. Really, it does. I have no feel for the dialogue or setting. the best I can do is crappy poetry. likt this:

I remember Tuesday afternoons.
You'd let me sit with you.
You were always working.
You let me sit there.
I helped you, you'd frown.
I didn't mean to fix you.
I thought you wanted me to--
that's why you let me sit there.

Now you sit with me.
You are always working.
I let you sit here.
You help me, I frown.
You want to fix me.
You think I want you to--
that's why I let you sit here.
I remember Tuesday afternoons.

The current director of the RP, Geezer, writes fan poetry. You made a great effort here - I'd say keep going!

I just write the stand-alones...not the epics that Hotpoint and AMDOBELL write...maybe try that ?

Well, this is the first time I've managed to write fanfiction and now I just wish I had the imagination to write my own fiction so I could make money doing something I enjoy! Maybe the key is you just haven't found what to say in which medium/show yet? If you really want to write it, keep at it and get feedback.

I am thinking about trying fan poetry. If I come up with anything, I'll post. Thanks for the encouragement.

Fanfiction can be a tricky beast, especially long narrative stories, maybe they just aren't your niche. Have you tried fan-poetry? Your poem above is really good, why don't you try writing a poem about your favourite Firefly characters? Your poem certainly has an Inara feel to it.
