Lament for Joss
Saturday, February 18, 2006

So, I really only heard of Firefly in 2005. I am a new fan. I am really, really envious of long term browncoats who got to ride the excitement wave.

Because this is depressing. I just read Joss's comments on the CW rumor, and although I didn't believe the rumor, his reply seemed to be snarky and bitter. Not the "We'll do whatever it takes to keep flying" Joss we once knew. At least, the one that gave such a passionate speech to spread the word about Serenity.

So, the little TV show that could became the big movie that didn't, and even though the movie made it's money back, and is a cult underground hit, we have nothing to hope for. No light at the end of the tunnel.

We are out of Gas.

Maybe Joss feels turned upon by his fans, that we somehow let him down by not getting enough people to see the Movie. Maybe he is tired of people criticizing his decision to axe Wash. (For the record, I was devestated to see him go, but I understood why he did it the minute I saw the darts hit Kaylee's Neck, the Bullit hit Simon's MANLY STOMACH, and when River got Reaved.)

Maybe he is just bummed that although his shows routinely deliver rabid fans, this one got axed.

I don't know what made him give up. But I distinctly feel that he has. Maybe he and the cast sat down together and were like "Ok, time to let go."

But I guess fighting lost causes against all sane odds was what made the show special.

I just keep waiting for a sly smile from Mal, like he knew he;d be back all along.

This site has become depressing. whine whine whine. That's me whining.

PrettyPretty,

Don't give up hope. I don't think we are out of gas at all.

I think we are in transition. The passion that Joss and all Browncoat's felt right after the show was cancelled and before the movie was begun and then the excitement as the movie was announced and then the lead up to the movie being released. All powerful emotions during a whirlwind time.

Now, it's wait and see time. This is the lull before a decision is made. Joss' posts are always well "Jossy" for want of a better word. I've only been here on month longer than you, but I have read everything he's written and I still can't fathom what he means specifically sometimes. Oh, I get the jokes and the snarkiness, but the meaning is sometimes obscured. I have read stuff that made me think... it's over... then I've read stuff that I think.. well, he's still interested. Time will tell. Now we have to hold and wait.... until Mal comes back with that sly smile. I'm not going anywhere, I can't wait to see that!
