Are browncoats like trekkies?
Monday, April 12, 2004

Tonight me guy made me watch Trekkies. He says I have a problem. Not with Trek, with Firefly. I say I don't. Something about reading fanfiction everyday or some such. I do not think that is in the same league as wearing a commander uniform to court. I could be wrong. It is hard to see one's own faults.

DRACOS

Hey, ebonezer I got three out of six, how bad have I got it? Or maybe not since I only swear in Chinese (its like regular cussin' but better!). Either way though I would have to say that we are most certainly not like most trekkies. I am yet to see one browncoat at any con' ever (except for that one time, but that was me and it was before Firefly so it dosent count). Given time though, say, after Serenity is released and theres action figures and stuff and we can line up for the movie in costume. Then Firefly will have its true trekkies. Until then we're just fans waiting to become fan-boys (or girls, or just Steve-Dave if you prefer).

That all said and goin on strong in the 'not making any sense department' I digress for the eve'. Shorah all.

GUNRUNNER

From my experience Firefly "Geeks" tend not to get the negative attention that Trek "Geeks" get.

About two weeks ago we had a "Spring Blizzard" in Rochester NY, after about two minutes outside I ran back in the house grabbed my heavy jacket and Jayne Hat. I walked in to a Hess Station, and a Wal Mart that night and go no reaction what so ever!

Two days ago I had on my Blue Sun shirt and went in to a Chinese restaurant to get dinner for my dad again no reaction.

I don't have a dog, so I guess that one is okay. I don't know why I am so worried, I think browncoats are kinda the cool fans of the scifi universe. Does that make sense? It doesn't really matter since I am already a geek anyway. Now I can be a geek with a cool hat.

Honestly, most Trekkies aren't even like Trekkies . That movie takes the severe, extremist fans and plays it as if all Trek fans act that way. (Being a Trek fan, I know whereof I speak.) Yes, I wear a prosthetic forehead on my real head (I dress up as a Klingon) when I go to conventions; NO, it has never entered my mind to wear my duds to work, school, or a government facility. (Although we do occasionally wear them when going out to eat - while attending a convention - because it's fun to see how the folks at Denny's react to 20 Klingons in full regalia asking to be seated.)

My Firefly addiction is far worse than my Trek addiction; however, I will STILL not wear my duds to work, school, a government facility, etc. The folks who would do that live in the same world that those portrayed in Trekkies do - and any similarity between their reality and ours is purely coincidental.
