Is it too early to be thinking about "Serenity" and summer 2005?
Tuesday, April 13, 2004

It was on the bus ride home that I got to thinking about summer 05, the summer of Serenity . I kept thinking how cool it would be to go line up kinda early and maybe meet some other Browncoats while I waited. Then I started to think about who I could dress up as. I settled on dressing like Kaylee from Serenity when she's sitting in front of the ship or trying to find someone to make a cunning Janye hat from The Message for me.

Is it too early for these thoughts? Am I being super geeky or just really normal for a Firefly fan? I mean, I have never ever considered dressing up for a movie before; I came close with Episode II for Star Wars but all I wore was the T-shirt I had bought for Episode I.

I guess this shows how much I love Firefly. I'm planning my day around a movie that hasn't even begun filming yet.

I'm dressing up like Inara for the first showing I can get. Don't care If I get weird looks. I'm just cooler than everyone else.

QUICKSAND

You are a huge nerd.

When you are waiting in line, someone dressed as Jar Jar Binks is going to kick your ass.

Please promise me you won't go in costume.

It's too early to tell what ELSE the Summer of '05 will bring, but Star Wars is a lock, and I think we may have X3 or Spider-Man 3 or Mission-Impossible 3 or god knows what else.

I love this show, but the LAST thing I want is to be associated with idiots who dress up like Yoda for the premiere. I get enough heat for liking "Buffy."

I think that it resonates so deeply with us because it's about real people dealing with very real, plausible issues that are written and portrayed in clever and insight ways. We can easily put ourselves in the place of any of the characters and say "that's just how I'd feel, or just how I'd react". With most other sci-fi shows, people are enlightened, superpowerful, eternally-conflicted, whatever...and the crew of Serenity are just people in really cool, interesting environments and situations. Anyway, that's why I like it so much...plus, Joss and the team aren't afraid to experiment...my favorites from Buffy, Angel, and Firefly have been where they tilted the camera and chose a new perspective (Hush, Restless, The Body, OMWF - Buffy; the Pylea episodes, Smile Time - Angel, and Objects in Space for FF)

DRACOS

I have to agree with Static here. Firefly has never had the fandom that other shows have, our love goes deeper than tholse of a lot of trekkies I think because we not just liked the show, we connected with it. Its a bit like a puppy you find in a box somewhere, Its a wonderful thing but its been treated horibly and just abandoned by people who dont care and you connect with it. I dont know what Im talking about anymore but I'd say that no, waiting for Serenity this early is in no way a bad thing.

Firefly is more than just a TV show, I've determined. I've been an avid fan of ALOT of Sci-Fi. . .Star Wars (I saw the original movie when it was first released), All incarnations of "Trek", Andromeda, SG-1, Farscape. . .

For reasons that I cannot explain, "Firefly" hits lots of folks on a level that you can't even describe. On a level that you might not even know is THERE. You're not being super geeky. . .you're looking forward to a wonderful thing. . .and there's nothing wrong with that.
