Working on my first honest to God oil painting--trying to remember how oils work is throwing me a bit...

It's sad in a way that computer technology has almost made oil painting and actual drawing obsolete..I was glancing through the latest issue of Illustrators and noticed that digital work out numbered the traditional paintings about 5-1.

I'm not knocking good digital work..some of it can be stunning and I've played around with it myself..But I find that I work better with tactile media..I have to feel the paper and brush..gotta get my hands dirty...

I have an idea for a painting and I hope my skills are enough to carry it off..nothing is more frustrating then having an idea lodge itself in your head and not be able to express it..Well, thanks for listening and thanks for all the positive comments on my last blog... you guys rule..

I know what you mean. I play with a number of mediums and my best work is always when I get my hands dirty (litteraly, I can't paint without getting it all over myself, sometimes I even use my fingers). I'm a very tactile person so I need to feel the piece. Even if it isn't mine. Mueseums drive me nuts because I can't touch anything.
I can't wait to see what you come up with.

My fine art-ness is in the ceramic world, so I'm all into creating with dirty hands. That's the fun of it!

Can't wait to see youroil painting. And hey, if it doesn't work out exactly like you want, then I guess you'll have to do more and all of us would really hate to see that. ;)

I'm with shinytalent on this one. I'm a poet and I can't produce anything good on a computer, it has to be paper and ink. With really stubborn writers block I go right back to pencil.

Good luck with the oils.
We still need 'hands-on', traditional stuff to enrich our lives. (how philosophical!)

mphilips, thank you.
As a writer I prefer paper and pen to see my work, so I understand where you are coming from.
I love seeing your work and I just know this oil painting will be amazing.

Keep being inspired and we will keep loving you for your work.

Thank /you/ for not letting traditional mediums die :)

After all, what would we have if all the hard-drives died?
