Triple organ recipient dies

March 10, 2006

AUSTRALIA'S first triple organ transplant recipient has died in Brisbane.

Cystic fibrosis sufferer Jason Grey, 28, died today at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Mr Grey underwent a heart, double lung, and liver transplant in August 2003.

The hospital spokeswoman said he died as a result of complications with his lungs.

Mr Grey moved to Brisbane from Sydney with his mother Debbie in 2001 to await a donor.

"Jason didn't have a life before the transplant," Mrs Grey said at the time of his operation.

"He couldn't go anywhere or do anything."

Sorry this story really struck me. Jason probably appreciated those two extra years of life than some people do with their entire life, including myself

My family are carriers of cystic fibrosis, so I know first hand about the pain and loss this disease brings to people's lives.

My cousin Matthew died at 13, and he would've enjoyed a couple extra years like this. I'm so glad for this fellow that he got that extra time.

Makes us remember to make the most of every day we have.

Thanks for sharing that.
