Saffron
Sunday, March 26, 2006

I admit, for a variety of reasons, that Saffron is my favorite Firefly character. River and Mal come in tied for second. To me, Saffron is like the true Boba Fett of Firefly, even though Jubal Early would technically kinda be it.

I'm watching "Our Mrs. Reynolds" and "Trash" again, mostly because Saffron's going to pop up in my next story, and she's such a great character. Her humor, her scheming, and...well...she's sexy. As crazy as this sounds, truth be told I prefer Mal and Saffron getting together more than Mal and Inara. Course, I won't be doing that in my season two, but maybe an AU... I just think that Mal and Saffron's dynamic is more interesting and lively than Mal and Inara's.

I think part of it might do with the archetype of the foe becoming friend relation, and how they never do seem to actually hate each other so much as...want to avoid each other. Well...maybe Mal does hate her, but his strange nobility prevents him from outright killing her, even if he will pistolwhip her, haha.

Then again, maybe Yo-Saff-Bridge's just got me with her feminine wiles. I am quite the sucker for them seductress types.

Oh how I wish we could've had more Saffron episodes...

I do have to admit, Saffron gives Mal a run for his money... and he needs that!

I adore Saffron! I think she was a wonderful character that would have had quite an interesting background if Joss had ever gotten the chance to tell it! She is my favorite recurring character and she definitely takes the #2 spot as fav character (Simon is my fav)! She is devious and wiley, a bit of a sociopath, but you seem to be rooting for her whenever she is on the screen! I know the Alliance didn't get a hold of Saffron when they left her int he garbage bin, she's too smart for that! I can't wait to see her in your next fic!

She's less complicated then Inara is the sense that there's less baggage. I think Mal has less issue with theif then a "whore". Theiving he can understand...but loving a stubborn gal who sleeps with hygenic and rich men with stamina, well, I could see how that hurts more.

That and YoSafBridge is stacked. That is alot of boobies for a little body.

I'll always be wondering what name she would have been using the next time we saw her, what new syllable Mal would have had to add to the Yo-Saff-Bridge tag. That woman's got a devious mind...

That said, I can't wait to see how you've conjured her in your next ep.

I can see the attraction Saffron has for you. She and Mal are cleverly matched opponents and do make entertaining moments on screen. It seems to me a lot of gents in the 'verse have cast Saffron in their own scripted stories. She's a gal you don't want to take your eyes from.
