questions of death and it's implications
Saturday, July 15, 2006

i'm going top mention something I've been thinking of, nothing complete, just ideas.

I've been thinking about the deaths of both Book and Wash. And I've been thinking that Wash's dying was more....i can't think of an applicable word. I don't want to say more important, because that's not true, so i don't know.

my point is, wash died suddenly, and was still living on this ship, he was also the pilot, the man who kept Serenity flying.

Book on the other hand had moved off the ship and was living in Haven, he had time to speak to mal for a bit before we lost him. He was the subtle guidance for the crew, the conscience. ( i can't spell)

Hate to say it...but I agree. Book's death was a catalyst for the trip to Miranda and the discovery of the recording. Wash's death was a major plot twist to ramp up the tension and throw doubt on the inevitability of the BDMs succeeding at their mission of getting the Miranda Wave out.

I think you're right about this. Book's death was hard on them (especially Mal) but Wash's death seams like it would be a festering wound. Wash was a Part of them. Book was important to them but he never let them see all of himself. There was a part he kept seperate. Wash held nothing back so there was more of him to lose. And like you said about Book having time to say something to Mal. That could give some kind of closure.
