Pullo: The Roman Jayne
Sunday, September 10, 2006

I know - from searching google - that Pullo (aka Ray Stevenson in HBO's "ROME") has been compared to Jayne by a lot of people. I've only just started watching the series on DVD (thank you, Netflix) and so I've only just been introduced to the startling similarities between the centurion character and everyone's favorite mercenary. But, wow, they are so, so much alike. I LOVE IT. There is a total Mal/Jayne dynamic with Vorenus/Pullo. It's sort of like having more FIREFLY... with togas.

REGINAROADIE

It's been nearly a year since I've seen any eps of ROME (I only saw like two or three eps), but now that you mention it, I guess they do share a sembalance.

Actually, one major sembalance that I saw over the summer was when I rented THE WILD BUNCH. When I saw the Gorch brothers on screen, one of them looked a hell of a lot like Jayne, and then when I looked at the credits, right after Bill Holden and Ernest Borgnine, there was Warren Oates, whom Adam based his character of Jayne on.

As for ROME, I'm gonna get it from Rogers and watch the whole season over a weekend or so. It looks really heady, but the naked gal getting drenched in cattle blood and the no anesthetic and very primitive brain surgery should make things easier on me.

TERRI

Oh yeah, you know now that you mention it, I'l go with that. Pullo was strong, and not the brightest bulb in the batch, but he has a good heart, you know, through all that greed. Pullo definately used his brawn over his brain on several occasions.
