The klutz that I am has been at it again.

At forty-something you'd think I'd remember before closing the sliding door, to to make sure that all parts of my body are on the same side of the door jam, wouldn't you?

Nope. Caught my thumb in the door yesterday right at the base joint. The good news is, the joint does work. The bad is the thumb keeps swelling and going numb.

And what am I doing? I'm opting to err on the side of embarassed stupidity and will wait a few days to see if it improves before involving my doctor.

I know that contusions do swell for a few days after, so I'm trying not to rack up any expenses unnecessarily. And, it isn't showing any bruising, so yea that.

I'm also experienced with broken digits, as those are the only breaks I've experienced...all on the same (dominant) hand.

So, the upshot is, I'll be she of little words and many emoticons for a bit while I try to rest it a bit.

Yeah, in the "dumb ass things to do" dept. I've got a story for yah...
Y'know those heavy duty carpet staplers?
Yep. I had my thumb on the wrong end of it -- don't ask -- still don't know why I did that. But sure enough, I depress the handle (thinking I'll be driving a staple into a piece of furniture to hold on a piece of fabric) when that half-inch long staple gets punched into either side of my first thumb joint. Really ablessing that it didn't go through the joint itself, just through the meat. Didn't even hurt really. A buddy pulled it out with a pair of needle-nose pliers. That's when it started to hurt...

Ouchy-poo!

I've had a bruised thumb and discolored, split thumbnail since I fought a losing (and stupid, on my end of it!) battle with a tree branch lopper in June. The nail is only half grown out now, so I'll be sporting this look for some time yet...

As far as being 40-something and knowing better...uh uh! I've done some of my finest self-inflicted damage since becoming a 40-something--including shutting my own head in the car door once.

Now THAT, my friend, is talent!

Ooh...that sounds mighty painful, RMMC :(

Though least you can still hang around with those with working opposable thumbs. That's always good news;D
