BROWNCOATJIM'S BLOG

This kind of bummed me out.
Friday, November 24, 2006

I got called to task quite sternly yesterday for some of my writing content. By this point, those of you who have been following my fics know better than to expect roses and sunshine out of me. Not that I am some nihilistic sadist here, I just like to explore the darker side of the 'Verse, and push these characters a little further. However, when I posted "A River Taken", it was only my second fic posting, and no one really knew what to expect. I felt that I had warned sufficiently, and avoided any terribly graphic depictions (certainly nothing like Jayne's enraged explosion towards the end of "The Final Cut"). However, as it was pointed out, I didn't give this person enough warning. I have no intentions of changing my writing style, or the subject matter within it. I will make my warnings more explicit in the future.

The first thing I want to say to the individual involved is "I'm Sorry."

The second thing is this: the last thing I really want to have is bad feelings and a pissing match with anyone out here. To me, that just isn't the Browncoat way.

Well...making it clear to people you got a dark streak in ya will save you headaches...but sometimes I wonder if people aren't getting to sensitive about things. I mean...anyone who's read "A River Taken" and your other works should know you tend to write dark and angsty at a level that would make even Joss shudder (which is a good thing, mind you;D), so complaining that you didn't warn them? Sounds more like we got a newbie who didn't do their homework;)

Still...mighty glad to see you're taking the high road by considering the POV espoused by the unnamed commentator, making small adjustments and carrying on with head held high:D
