Proof! Joss is god!
Wednesday, December 13, 2006

Since my fanfic muse took off in October and didn't leave a forwarding address, I guess I'll just populate the BSR with my ramblings on FF related new items I come across.

So, I was perusing a list of the top baby names for 2006. You know, so my kid can be a beautiful and unique snowflake when the time comes to name him/her/it after a stripper. I noticed something oddly hilarious while reading down.

For the ladies, "Kaylee" (but not alternate spelling "Kaleigh", which I saw in a movie somewhere) rolls in at 21st this year. Followed by "Zoe" at 30th. River and Inara get shafted, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

For guys, the list is oddly normal (although "Sebastian" ranks at 84). Sadly, "Jayne" did not make the top 100, nor did the more normal "Simon" or "Malcolm". I didn't even scan for "Book" or "Hoban". Sorry gents, looks like old-style Anglican names are the rage this year.

The wife informs me that "Zoe" is always up there, though not always that highly placed. Still, I find this proves that Joss is slowly remaking the world in his image.

At least we know that we will please our new god.

List is here: http://www.babycenter.com/general/babynaming/pregnancy/1506831.html?scid=pcbulletin:20061211:0:0:0

Think Inara would be the most unique of the BDH names...besides Hoban and Derrial;)

Still...I do wonder about the future spawn of Browncoats, mainly concerning their feelings about being named after the BDHs and Our Fearful Leader. Cuz having a unique name when you're little blows chunks on occasion:(

C'mon MSG, Kaywinett Lee (sp?) or nothing! She'll always know someone is talking to her.
Mom picked me out a very unique name in 1971.
Of course that all ended for me once Heather became big. They're EVERYWHERE now. Curse of the popular movie name.

I'm disappointed that I had my sons after I found Firefly. I would love a son named Malcom.Kayleigh was a pick for a girl's name, but it was taken from a Marillion song .

Of course flowers always works. Simon and Mal have yet to learn this very useful technique, but us manly men give flowers like candy (incidentally, candy usually works, too).

Of course, saving your woman from Reaver attack also helps, but Portland has a distinct lack of Reavers (unless you count all the emo kids under the Burnside Bridge).

FIDDLER

I already have Inara cornered... If the Ms. wills it. I told her it was my destined imperative to name a girl that, and she told me to imperatively destine myself unto the couch. So I can say that due to a stalemate, the baby is not forthcoming... hopefully this will change tonight... The couch is not very comfortable, and I bought her flowers. (THAT SHOULD WORK, SHOULDN'T IT?)

Hey Kaylee is the name I've picked for a gilr ( if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant) so I'm doing my part for our benevolent god:)
