confessions/digressions
Saturday, February 24, 2007

Dear bloggers,

First of all its time I confessed. I admit that I sometimes operate under two other names here on this site. I'll tell you guys if you're interested. But, just so you know......

Anyway, for those of you who are interested, I made it through last semester's final projects and have since moved on to student teaching this semester. At a real school no less. It's fun, challenging, stressful, rewarding. I've never had a job that inspires me as much as playing live music. They are similar in that both situations can raise the hair on the back of my neck and forearms. When kids get it, its really cool. Admittedly, sometimes it sucks and I feel like a disciplinarian, but I'm keeping my head above water.

What do I teach? English. One day I realized that reading was good for my mind, and I ran with it. Lately I've been teaching John Steinbeck and John Hersey. There is hope for Earth if kids can understand these guys and relate. Just my two cents.

Hang in there. Student teaching is really great. When you get to your first year, just remember that it's the worst year ever and it will get better...I'm on my 8th year as a teacher now and I love my job!
