KAYLEEGIRL'S BLOG

First-ever blog entry!
Saturday, February 24, 2007

To blog or not to blog, that has been the question. I'm still not sure why anyone does this, but maybe by doing I'll discover the answer.

Be warned -- most of this stuff will probably be about writing because, well, I'm a writer and I love the whole creating new worlds in words magic that goes along with that.

I can't believe that I finished my first FF fan fic in January and STILL haven't posted it! Steamer was kind enough to Beta for me and I have some other writer and non-writer freinds who've given me good feedback. So why have I left it in limbo? Okay. Confession: after reading the thread on how to format it, I got a bit overwhelmed. I want to be sure that I link the parts together to make it easy for people to read and now I find out that I can do a thingie where the translations for the Chinese will pop up -- very, very shiny but...now I have to go back and be sure I've got the translations right. Am I wrong to fear that when I post it'll end up like some crazy wingding mess instead of a story? Am I too much like Adrian Monk (not entirely with-it and too OCD trying to make it perfect)? Yes. Maybe. I don't know. Can anyone say "procrastination?"

WWJD? (He'd already have written two or three more FF stories by now most likely!)

As usual, I'm probably being too hard on myself. After all, I have a job and a bit of a life outside work and this is just fanfic, right? Yes, but...I have this crazy dream that one day Borders will have shelves of FF novels crowding out the Star Trek books AND that my name will be on some of them. So, I do take this fanfic seriously. Call me a crazy Browncoat. (Which I wouldn't mind at all!)

On a new tangent: I get so excited whenever I see the commercials for "Drive" and Nathan Fillion's face on the TV again! I'll be glued to my set for all two episodes that F*x runs before they cancel yet another fine show.

That's all for now gentle readers. Luv ya all!

I actually think F*X is going to champion this show, in it's own way. They've run tons of commercials, the first episode is going to be shown over two days, and it's regular slot is right before 24. So, this one's good, and (for some odd reason) it's being given a chance.

Shelves of Browncoat lit, eh? Now THAT is a fantasy I can get behind;D

And formatting is definitely something one should think on...but not be obsessive about, KayleeGirl. I think you'll find we're a forgiving bunch if you've done your best to make sure the posted document is relatively structured legibly;D

STEAMER

Hey, thanks for the anniversary wish! So why do we blog? Well, as you may now be conjuring, it's all sorts o' feedback fodder.

Don't know what you use for a Chinese resource, but I usually use an online dictionary at http://www.mdbg.net where I plug in a word or part of a phrase, and it'll give me all possible translations. Been using it profusely of late after realising there's an awful lot of Chinese in WiR.

Formatting is actually a piece of cake as long as you know what codes to use and where they belong. You know where to find me if you could use a hand. And you are by no means a crazy Browncoat - I share your dream of voluminous shelves of Firefly literature, and maybe doing a book signing at one of the many Borders where I've gone to hang out. So as it's been said, the future is worth fighting for.
