I've been a member here for nearly a month now and I only just noticed this firefly blog thing. Yes, fear my amazing skills. Why, I could probably overturn a truck with my sense of observation alone! Anyway, I have a livejournal already, but o0o0o0oo firefly blog! That makes this so much more special-er!

Still don't know how this is gonna look when I'm done, nor who is even going to read this (is this even public?) but even if this is never seen by anyone except me, I might as well jot down how I discovered my current unhealthy obsession.

Back in like, 9th grade or something, my friend Chris told me about this show about "space cowboys" he was currently addicted to, that was getting cancelled. I called him a dork and galloped around him singing that *NSYNC song Space Cowboys because I was so clever in 9th grade. Like, a genius, really.

And then, at the end of February 2007, I bought a buzz lightyear toy off eBay for my baby cousin. Few weeks later, I got one of those annoying emails like "Hot eBay Picks for You!!!!!" You know, the ones where they guess your personality based off what you buy and shove related items into your inbox and tells you to buy them.

So apparently Firefly is the type of thing a Toy Story fan would be into. Go figure. But yeah, I saw it and recalled Chris's disappointment at it being cancelled. I figured - I got 80 bucks for being hypnotized in a psychology experiment AND midterms were coming up. So why the hell not?

I bought the complete series on DVD for like 8 bucks and watched the entire thing through in one weekend. The following weeks was spent scouring the net for people who were snagged into the obsession bear-trap that was Firefly. Thank the lord, I found a thriving fandom to sate my needs.

Then I realized that all was not lost: a movie had been made 2 years earlier continuuing the series. And as it turned out, I've SEEN it already. I just didnt remember because my baby cousin - the one who fatefully asked for a Buzz Lightyear toy was being difficult and I couldn't really watch the whole thing. Funny the way life works out sometimes.

And now, 2 months later, I've watched the series about 7 times through, watched the movie maybe 4 times, began a fanfiction that I'm posting on this site and fanfiction.net right now, and bought the comic book off eBay, because it turned up in another "BUY THIS YOU'LL LIKE IT!!" email.

In conclusion...DAMN YOU, FOX! DAMN YOUUUUU!!!

By the way, Joss Whedon wrote (or, technically re-wrote) the screenplay for Toy Story, so it's not so random a connection!
